Description

To address the old-age and technology of RPG Maker 2003's RPG Runtime engine, a replacement will be written that implements more modern features. This is intended to work both as a 1-1 replacement for the RPG_RT.exe executable and as an extender to allow features which would be cumbersome to implement conventionally as event scripts.

There are also a long string of bugs and feature requests that will be addressed with this engine, especially the more commonly known battle bugs and speed/agility problems.

This is not a patch, it is a ground-up open-source engine that plays RPG Maker 2k/3 games. There are others out there, but usually for systems like the GP32X, PSP, and DS so that you could play RPG Maker 2003 games on those systems.

This technology enables you to create something new with something old, comfortable, and most importantly, fun. The G.E.C.K. for example, still sports that Win95 look but uses the next-gen engine you actually play. After all, it's this engine that your users will actually see and not your tools.

Testing - Doing Our Part

A lot of you may know about the RPG Maker 20XX Engine, a replacement for the old RM2003 runtime engine being developed by WolfCoder. Unfortunately, WC has since left RMN, but the project continues on in other locales. While WC isn't on RMN anymore, I think this project is bigger than just one site and it deserves discussion and attention. He's still working on the engine and still takes comments, bugs, and concerns.

So I've talked to WolfCoder recently...

And the project still continues on. One of the things he mentioned is that too many people are looking forward to the project and yet not enough people are actually testing the project and trying to do things with it. The best and fastest way to get this project off the ground is to actually download it and mess around with it; try to do stuff with it and play around with its features, and list out the bugs and what you find to WC.

I am obviously not in a position to speak too much on his behalf or whatever, but that's pretty much the word. My only problem, and I'm sure I'm not alone on this, is exactly how to use RM20XX's features. A lot of the instructions on utilizing its features and possibilities seem like mumbo-jumbo to me. Perhaps we can put our minds together and figure this out between all of us? We can start by downloading the program on the project main page, and playing around with it in our projects (or more safely, a copy of our projects), and reporting and discussing bugs, thoughts, tools, and general engine stuff here.

I am willing to give this a shot. What do you need tested specifically. What would help the most?
The answer to your questions can be found at http://rpgmaker.net/games/2664/ and the above bulletin Testing - Doing Our Part. Wolfcoder doesn't post here anymore, so you won't get a direct response from the creator.

Short answer: Test EVERYTHING, as even the most basic of things doesn't work right.
I found bug i think with language this work on 2k3 but not here:

This isn't the place to report bugs. Use the bulletin or send them to WC directly using any of the methods provided above. There needs to be a centralized location to report bugs so that one doesn't need to view every page and read through pages of comments just to find them.
i hope this works

What is actually involved in testing RPG Maker 20xx?

You just posted in the topic that was made to help everyone understand how to do that.

I'll give a brief answer to your question there. Although Feld kinda already explained it.

If anyone happened to download the engine recently, double-check to make sure it is okay! (and redownload it)
Is this any good? what exactly are the improvements?
Go to the game page and look through the images, each image shows off a feature. Look att he tab about special commands.
I'm a newbie to this RPG maker thing. Is this one good for beginners?
