AN OFFICIAL *ENGLISH* VERSION OF 2K3 APPROACHES!

Posts

Part of her defensiveness MIGHT be because it was "her idea". As she keeps mentioning "this all could happen on the request of one fan!". I mean I know I would be pretty excited if I started the ball rolling sort of by mistake in an offhand comment and made something I kinda almost sort of liked happen.

Speaking of selling rm2k3 games though. Didn't 2k3 have mp3 support? As far as I know you have to pay a license fee to whoever did the whole mp3-thing in order to sell games that use them.

I'm sorry if I come off as a bit defensive. Granted, I did start the ball rolling on this by accident, it's something I'd personally like to see happen and feel responsible for.

I've also been fielding the same questions on about 20 different websites, dealing with being sick, fevered and unable to sleep, so I may be a bit more irritable than usual.

I'm not posting here to demand people sign. As I've said many times, if you don't want to sign, don't. It's clearly not for you (the person who doesn't want to sign, that is). I'm just sick of people demanding the same answers that I - and others - have already answered before, as well as starting the same arguments that have just been explained. It's a bit draining, you see.

And there are some forums that have been especially raging, misconstruing facts and just out and out being douches (not here, though my buttons are very easy to push at the moment, sorry >.<; ) and it's kinda got me a bit on edge.

As for that moniker - I got it years ago because I've always been a fan of the RTP and proud of it. What it has to do with this topic at all, I have no idea. Maybe you link it to the fact I've pointed out that the RTPs are more than just tiles and characters, which I thought was a logical point to make since most people have been using that in the arguments?

That said, it's rather easy to convert to the other makers (and legal only if you have the license for the engine it was brought out in). And REFMAP/Mack is legal for use in legal engines.

EDIT: Sign, don't sign. Up to you. I just thought it was neat that something like this was finally happening. It doesn't take away from their other works and if there's enough support, they'll do it. What have we got to lose? A 'free' program that we've been using illegally for years - through no fault of the actual makers. I'm happy to pay $20 back for all the years of fun I've had. If others aren't, fine. It's not like they'll be missing out on something. Really, it's more for nostalgia and legality, imo.

My apologies if I came across as an ass.

I'm just trying to understand how a game developer can turn this product into something worthwhile to sell a game on if major flaws are not fixed and if you cannot legally use the patches and plugs that fix these flaws? There's a reason it was discontinued in Japan and EB went back to the more popular RM2K. So a part of me does feel we are getting the bottom end of a barrel for a product no longer being supported just so EB can clear their storage.

If they could address that (and take the time to fix these flaws), I'd be all for it; but until then I just can't see it anything more worthwhile than to grab at the RTP, and if that's the case they could just update the RTP to fit the style of VX Ace and sell that as a completely new add-on package.

I've mentioned RM2K Value to the upper RM staff, so it's not like I'm all about VX Ace. I'd sign a petition for the 2K Value in no time. In any case, no need for me to continue to argue about this, as I've stated my opinion numerous times, and that's all it is, my opinion.

The same would apply (or lack thereof) to games made in RMXP, RMVX, or RMVXA.
I've never used 2k3 and never will...but unless you genuinely believe that somehow having an English translation will negatively affect EB's future products I can see absolutely no reason not to sign. Even if you won't use it clearly other people will, so it seems to me refusing to sign is basically saying f-you to other community members.

So I signed. Good luck ^_^
It's simple:

Ah how does it work for XP+? Can you remove the mp3-support in order to sell games without paying the license? (using for example .ogg instead) or does the license to use mp3 come with a purchase of the engine?

My guess is that it's included with the purchase of the engine since the issue has never been brought up to my knowledge.

You are free to do edits to the assets as long as they're used for RM* engines IIRC

Seriously, what the hell? I'm not sure what part of the world you live in, but in my part you generally sign petitions that you believe strongly in, not because you're worried about what other people might think or feel. So yeah, if refusing to sign makes you think I'm telling you to f-off, go right ahead and think that, but don't flatter yourself. I don't care about your feelings. I'm choosing not to sign because I don't believe it's right for them to release a broken product they are refusing to fix, and won't let us implement ways to fix these issues ourselves without considering it a break of the EULA.

If they came out and said "You're right, we need to fix these issues" then I'll sign. Hell, at the very least they need to fix the clunky battle system and the horrible ATB, and for those fixes alone I'd gladly sign. Until then, this petition doesn't get my signature. I may be alone in my thinking, and my one signature probably doesn't make a difference either way since I'm sure this will go through with or without me, but I refuse to compromise my beliefs just because somebody else thinks I'm telling them to f-off.

Liberty said they may fix some things. Also some people feel this doesn't need to be fixed so why alienate them ?

The petition's purpose, as I understand it, is to show Degica that there are enough potential buyers for the localization to be profitable. Why would you sign the petition if you don't plan to buy it? Unless you are actually going to throw $20 the publisher's way out of sheer altruism in exchange for a program you "never have and never will" use, there is absolutely no point in you doing this.

Let those who want it sign, let those who don't not sign, and let those who think sabotaging this will somehow result in improved support for the newer RPG Makers be their delusional little selves.
If I sign this, will EB fix all the bugs this engine has?

Well, first off, nothing is guaranteed. We could get all the signatures in the world but in the end it's up to EB. Signatures show interest but I don't believe they are a guarantee of any action.

I'm imagining if they decide to re-release, they would fix the bugs. It's all about incentive to get people to buy their products. If they just translate it to English, what's the incentive in purchasing software that barely works on a modern OS?

In addition, when 2k3 was released back in 2003, there were various patches and fixes that went into the engine. I imagine with a proper, larger English community now, our complaints will speak much louder.

Enterbrain claims on their website that with a little dedication anyone can create an RPG. I completely agree. It's just that some people have so much dedication to their projects they aren't quite ready to upgrade to a new maker.
I did give this a bit more thought and I will at least give credit to one thing, which should show people I'm not completely against this and that I do have an open mind. Whether or not they fix the problems is mute until they actually release a legal copy (if they ever release a legal copy).

However, communities offering RM2K/3 services have been drying up. It's hard to find decent tutorials and support anymore, and usually communities that still include RM2K/3 games only focus on projects versus assistance. With a legal version to RM2K3, this would more than likely generate a higher support for newbies using this particular engine, which is something I'm sure we'd all like to see.

Look at Kelsper's tutorial guide for RMVX-Ace.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/88474618/Beginner-s-Guide-to-RPG-Maker-VX-Ace#download

Can you imagine a similar guide being done with RM2K3? It may be possible with a legal copy.

There, I found something positive to say about this after all! :)

This is such a ridiculous idea that I'm kind of shocked it exists! Like, seriously lol???

Here's an idea: add "hardware acceleration = true" line of cybercode to RMXP and release that. wwoaaaah perfect rpgmaker achieved

PS: 2k3 doesn't even perform basic math correctly ~ please deliver to me this incredible engine asap!
