AN OFFICIAL *ENGLISH* VERSION OF 2K3 APPROACHES!

I myself would enjoy an officially sanctioned and fixed/updated RM2k3, but realistic expectations lead me to believe this would just be a simple translation.
I agree with this. There is literally no point in releasing an official version of RPG Maker 2k3 without the fixes, otherwise I'd probably just have stayed with the illegal version.
All you're getting is a license to sell your game legally. But with the patches and the new DynRPG patches, they would probably over-ride and gain superiority to any form of fix/update they make to 2k3 anyway. Re-adding the patches in question breaches the EULA which means it's illegal again. Hence you've just wasted £20 in a sense.
A lot of people use REFMAP or SD graphics generally for their games now. Which in turn means you can't release your game anyway because of copyrights. Even if you do edit them. And for the sake of the topic, how many 2k3 games are there that have everything 100% custom (music included)? It's also highly unlikely that people would pay for 2k3 games considering it's a decade old now. People look for flashier games made in XP to VXa, thus I'd only get 2k3 legally for nostalgia and fun.
But then from another angle, if you're buying it just because it's in English, you're just technically paying £20 for them to fix the agility issue and a few other things. Not really practical at all to be honest.
I'd probably just buy it for the nostalgia.
author=dragonheartmanauthor=WIPWhat would you say about those who have invested a decent amount of time into their 2k/3 projects? I understand there are better engines, but I want to finish something rather than start over.
Honestly there aren't any logical reasons to want this.
The prospect of seeing the issues with 2k3 getting officially addressed (rather than hacked and patched over) is enough for me to support this.
I'll clarify my stance on this as you do ask a valid question.
I'm wagering they won't fix issues inside the core system. As has been stated numerous times in this thread, there are many nasty bugs in the engine. Those things cannot be translated out. They require access to the actual source code, as well as the entire toolchain they used to compile the engine. Not that it is impossible, but I am doubting they kept their toolchain to build an engine and editor from over a decade ago. Did you know the Wii version of Okami had some brand new in-game assets made for it? It wasn't because they wanted to improve them. Capcom literally lost them. Within a span of about three years.
My post was more assuming they weren't going to do anything about fixing the actual engine issues. In that case, you'd basically throw $20 to someone to make sure you can resolve your guilt of continuing to use illegally obtained software with third-party fixes.
why does anyone ignore about my idea petitioning to released the DS version in the US....
i have a 3ds and i want to use it a lot!!!

You mean the DS version of RPG Maker? I haven't really tested it, but... chances are, if you have a 3DS, you have a computer or laptop. I'm not saying it's not worth the money, but I'd much rather just spend £60 on a maker which I can customize to almost 100%. I'm pretty sure that because it is on DS, there will be more limitations. Though the DS version is still okay, such a recommendation isn't really needed on this topic. Start a new topic or something.

i also have this crazy idea...
how about enter brain develop a game engine for pc but it can also run on the ds...
people have to download a special program on e-shop/dsi store (ex... rpg maker ds 2 enumerator)
and they have to transfer the game file to a sd card and run the game via a ds system... very good idea...
pretty

Thanks for your reply.
I completely agree with you that if the actual engine issues aren't fixed, this would largely be a waste of time and money. I'm being a little optimistic here.

You are free to sell games that use REFMAP / Mack & Blue / FSM stuff with legally obtained software. However, you are not licensed to use their content with the illegal makers. You can even use their content in your own custom engine and still sell it. And you can edit them.

Only 793 signatures to go! I'm being positive about it all.
And now it's only 600+ signatures to go! Not too bad for a first month. Apparently there has been a heavy influx of French people signing the petition as of late, which makes me wonder where are the German, Italian or even Spanish or Brazilian rm communities? ...Anyway, if things don't dwindle too much from now on, we may reach the 1k goal within the next few months! =P
Ps: There, there, Ghost. :(
Edit: @LockeZ: Porque es más fácil de entender que el Japonés? :<
Why would non english speaking people sign a petition to get something translated to english
Like seriously what the hell

Hmm, I'm sure there are bilingual people, but I also wonder if some people just want it translated because google translate works better with english->french than with japanese->french? Either way, if they would buy it, I hope it gets done for them.
