AND YOU ARE...? (THE INTRODUCTION THREAD)

Posts

Alright, so the community is fleshing out a bit. It's time we introduced ourselves. No we're not role playing here, I want the REAL you. Yea, that guy sitting in front of the computer. What are you like? What's the stuff you do? This ain't your everyday MYSpace quiz, so make it interesting.

I'll start.

My names Tyler I am 20 and I am currently living in Houston, Texas. I go to college in Denton, Texas (30 miles north of Dallas) attending the University of North Texas. I spent my first year as a musicial composition major, but am changing into a jazz performance/composition major next semester. My major hobby is music. I play the trumpet and have for many years. I've played in orchestras, marching bands, pep bands, big bands, small jazz groups, rock groups, and cover bands. I've also written in various styles including jazz, pop, rock, funk, classical, and game styles. I'd like to consider myself a versatile musician and the goal is to teach, write, and play (basically everything I can) to survive in the "real world."

When it comes to videogames I prefer RPGs and party type multiplayer games such as Smash Bros, Mario Kart, or Goldeneye (Sorry, No Halo). My favorite RPG is Final Fantasy 7. Yes I am a fanboy. But no my screenname was never SephirothDarkCloud167.

I likes to be active when a bunch of friends are together. Common activities include softball and basketball. I like to jam with all types of musicians and instruments. Jam Sessions are fun, yo.

I think I am a pretty cool guy. I am totally out of the loop of pop culture. I like good music, I am decently interesting, and not too concerned with outer appearance (But that doesn't matter cause I'm HAWT). I would like to say I am social and hang with interesting and normal people and my internet or gaming habits were never too extreme to get in the way. No reason you can't have both, eh? I wouldn't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer, but I do enjoy playing on occasion.

Now how about you guys?
Sure.

My alias is Yolindo Yammer. I go to Iowa State University in Ames, IA for accounting, English, and philosophy and plan to someday attend law school, then eventually practice law either in courts or businesses or both.

My main hobby is Greek life. I spend a lot of time down at college just trying to help build up and run a fraternity. I also get involved in some other clubs and organizations, because I like to get involved in things. My campus involvement and my 20+ credit hours per semester usually means that I disappear while classes are going on. I would someday like to write a novel centered around my experiences in the Greek community as contrasted to what is commonly held about frats.

When it comes to RPGs I place a humongous emphasis on storyline, so much so that I can usually care less about graphics. Recently however I've come to appreciate gameplay a lot more, and I can say that, if a game has a fantastic storyline but a horrible battle system and little else, I won't be enjoying it :). Some of my favorite game series include Metal Gear Solid, Suikoden, and Final Fantasy. I would probably enjoy more of those obscure #rm2k games like Odin Sphere if I had more free time to play them :P.

Prior to RMN, I spent several years hanging around #rpgmaker.net while various iterations of RPGMaker.net were released. Before that I was a member of GamingW, where I worked as an administrator for awhile before leaving. I've never completed a game of my own, though I've released demos of projects and also helped others with their own storylines. If I ever have the free time, I would love to create a new RM2K game with absolute emphasis on very, very deep plotting, as much as what I've written in the past, but I'd probably need help putting together a balanced battle system and making the graphics digestible ;D.

I am cooler than Erave; I am generally "above average" in coolness, though certainly not "the life of the party." I usually get hooked on particular things for periods of time before getting bored and moving on. For example, I eat the same microwavable burrito dinner every day for several months, then move on to microwavable chicken with BBQ dip; I get really excited about playing RM2K games for several weeks, then get bored and start reading books constantly instead. Generally, however, I stay excited about things where I'm 'building up' organizations or improving myself through learning. I've also recently started studying my religion Catholicism more closely and have begun eating more healthily and working out again, so I'm probably doing better than I ever have.

I am a 23 year old University student in New York. I've only got a little bit left until I graduate. I originally was studying Computer Science, but then changed it to Music, because I wasn't really fond of programming and I have composed songs for my RPG Maker projects. However, the music wasn't focused on technology, and also I hate performing. I used to play the Piano and the Violin. So then I switched over to Art, which is what I'm finishing my degree in. Unfortunately that means that it's kinda hard for me to fully focus on improving one thing, as I work with multiple media and stuff.

My hobbies include working with RPG Maker, thinking up Game designs, drawing, pixel art, composing. As for composing, my favorite VG composers are Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger/Cross), Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Masashi Hamauzu/Junya Nakano (Final Fantasy X). For non-VG music, I go for Smooth Jazz.

My favorite types of games are RPGs, though sometimes I'll play other types. Mario Kart 64 is a fun one, as is Mario 64, Katamari, and some others. My favorite RPGs are Oblivion, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy X, Seiken Densetsu 3, & Chrono Trigger.

I'm an introvert offline, online I'm more outgoing.
I'm a 17 year old high school student in Melbourne, Australia aaaand thats as much as I'm going to say.

NEXT!
Currently employed under the U.S. Government's military service as a "Humane Intelligence Collector" and attend a language school to learn 4 years worth of a particular language in 1 year so that I can utilize it for the future of all of mankind but more or less for nothing really because I probably won't be using it in Iraq. I'm not mormon. I'm 22. I have a Korean, German and Swedish heritage streamlined with a history of drug abuse and alcoholism. The heritage, not me. :) I actually have something to live for and I love Guinness.

Anywho. I'm cooler than Mr. Y because <insert whatever Mr. Y said> but better! My hobby for the past 15 years has been art. My real art history pretty much coincides with my RPGMaker life because of my wanting to make tilesets for RPG95 and charasets(back when they were called that). I dropped into the scene about 9 years ago where I stumbled upon some lame dudes and a couple of chicks(who ended up leaving) in a channel called #rpgmaker. There, out of all the lame dudes, I met a few guys that stood out from the rest whom I've known since up until now and hopefully well into the future. During the times of #rpgmaker, many a things happened and it was all-in-all a buncha freakin' good times. Lots of fun stories. Wish I could get back in contact with all those ho-bags. Would make for a nice reunion. Anywho, I consider myself as a learned but average artist and occasionally dabble in the traditional arts of nude painting and smearing. Just kidding. My preferred mediums are pencil and ink. Shading and coloring is all done computer-side which I've grown particularly fond of although I don't do it as much anymore.

I attempted to go for an MBA but ended up dropping it because I hated accounting and math. After that, I attended an art school in some place that was expensive before joining the military. I plan to rejoin the college learning scene come this winter so that I can get that lame ass degree requirement out of the way to get into the field of conceptualizing character designs and environmental coolnesses like I wanted.

Right at this moment, I'm playing as a level 25 Hunter in Lord of the Rings Online. It's quite the fun and if you play on the right server, we can party and I can help you level up. You should join. MMORPGs are fun! I mean.. gawd.. there are just so many to choose from now. In the past when I played them almost every waking hour, they weren't as common.

Finally, I'm also an impulse buyer of domains and currently are in the ownership of 23 domains. I don't have any real plans for any of them but it's fun to have them I suppose. People trade pokemon, I buy domains.

Fun fun.

So who made up this lame ass topic again? Just kidding. I think...

Okay then!

My name is Kenton Anderson (I have such a clever username) and I just turned 26 yesterday (07/07/07 ftw). I am a Team Lead/Systems Integrator for SAIC Canada working on a health information database system for a federally sponsored health initiative (using Java, JSF and DB2). I am currently working on integrating code from the various partners in the project (SAIC, IBM and STC).

I currently live in Surrey, BC and am working in the IBM Pacific Development Center until the end of July, at which time I will be moving to Regina, Saskatchewan to work at SAIC Canada's head office on the university campus.

Speaking of which, I am working on my Master's of Computer Science part time, with a focus on medical image rendering. I started it at SFU in Burnaby and will be transfering it to the U or Regina. I hope to finish sometime in the next decade.

I was married on September 11th, 2004 and have been happily married ever since. My wife is an accountant (which makes her the "cool" one in the relationship, so she claims. accountant vs. programmer? tough call).

My very first RPG I ever played was Dragon Warrior, which I got with a subscription to Nintendo Power sometime back in the late 80's. I still love DW1-4 to this day, however FFVI is my favorite RPG of all time. I

I still play hockey in a winter league (I lead the team in scoring this year) but I used to also play volleyball, soccer, track & field (sprints, long jump and shot put) and swimming, though I am in terrible shape now.

All in all, I am best summed up as a lazy overachiever.
Man I thought I was old for an online community ;).
I am a 23 year old art major and the raddest dude on the planet. My handle comes from the somewhat tacky font style, and was intended to be the sort of thing that sounded clever the first time you heard it, but lost a bit of impact each time you heard it afterwards, like with the name of Homer's band on the Simpsons. It was something of a joke about how common names beginning with "Shadow" are, though by now it's probably just treated as one of them. I've been using it for something like twelve years now.

I enjoy things that are nice and have a love-hate relationship with things that aren't. I take great joy in visual culture, especially cartoons. I also like language and playful, experimental usage thereof. I have adopted a lot of slang from other cultures and time periods into my own ideolect for funsies, the most noticeable probably being my overuse of britishisms. One of my biggest pet peeves is elitism, though I sometimes worry that might be a bit hypocritical considering my opinion of....let's say chavishness. My politics lean heavily towards libertarianism (as opposed to authoritarianism: I have no affiliation with or interest in the Libertarian Party) and slightly towards liberalism. My religious beliefs are completely daffy and I do not expect anyone to respect them much.

I am semi-active on the periphery of the RPG Maker community and the communities that have spawned from it, especially #rm2k_anime on Aniverse. Most people who were active early on in the RPG Maker community probably already know (and love) me.

If I were a hero, my archetype would be somewhere between The Fool and The Messiah

Also, I may or may not be the Kwisatz Haderach.

My name is Robert Holbert. I am a 25 year old male. I've been married to my wife, Lori, since 2002 and we have a 3 year old daughter named Kayden. Up until this month I was earning really good money as a manager for Wal-Mart, but I decided it was time to go back to school before it was too late. I'm currently unemployed (but looking) and registered to go to the local community college for two years, after which I plan to go to the University of Iowa to attain a bachelor's degree in Political Science. If everything turns out alright there, I may just stay to get my master's.

I've been in the rpgmaker scene since 1998, though I was largely absent during the initial rm2k days. I founded a pretty popular rpg95 site back in the day called the NeXus, which I left to focus on life issues. It collapsed without me. I tried to get back into the scene later on, but nothing even panned out. I technically am the boss-man at RMN, though I've largely given all the responsbility (and the glory!) to WIP who has done a fantastic job. So I stay in the shadows, forever the benefactor.

I really enjoy console gaming. I'm currently an Xbox 360 fanboy and loving playing on Xbox Live. I am fascinated by MMORPG's but none of them ever seem to tap their full potential. I'm playing Lord of the Rings Online right now and it's pretty good.

I've been trying to make a game since RPG95 came out, but I'm terrible with graphics and feel the game not only has to play right, but has to look and sound right, so I normally quit within a week or two of starting. One of these days... Idyllis will reign!

I also love Transformers. You need to go see the movie. Twice even! It is really awesome.

Hum hum. Holbert is RMN's sugar daddy.

My name is August Trapper Bigelow. I'm 23, 6'2", and overweight. I'm mormon, but inactive because I'm lazy and have been in a slump in my life for the past while.

I've worked at a small web company for the past two years that doesn't pay me as much as they should, but I hate change and so I've stayed there. Prior to that, I worked at MediaPlay, which was a big movie/music/videogames store that was recently purchased by FYE and turned into "FYE Superstores". I of course worked in the videogame department and was the all-knowing nerd at work. I also liked to flirt with the cashiers and scare people.

I've been in the scene since around November of 1998. I used to go by Bobathon and was a total noob. I made a website with Anky and I used Geocities's layout designer to make all the terrible pages. Anky would come in and clean up the HTML, and I would change them back because I'm a punkass. In around March of 1999, I met Holbert (who was a reviewer at a site I can't recall now but was ran by a guy named Ultros) and that was right before he launched the NeXus. We have been friends ever since! I eventually started to learn HTML, then JavaScript, and then I found Sphere. I went from that to ika a couple years back and have been a Python addict ever since. I've never made a complete game, but I have various demos strewn across the internet.

Like, four years ago Holbert bought the domain for this site, rpgmaker.net, and I kept screwing up making the site, causing a lot of strife between Holbert and I. I was stubborn and wanted it to be perfect. Finally, back in January I started working on the latest incarnation of the site, which we're now using.

I'm a big Nintendo fan, but not a blind fanboy. My favorite game series is Metroid. I also own a Nintendo hoodie, which, if you are crafty enough, you can find pictures of me wearing. I sat in line for a Wii for about 13 hours, 8 of which I was asleep inside a sleeping bag. Curiously enough, I really enjoyed sleeping there.

I am way cool because I live in the mountains and you do not.
I didn't know until now that August was actually a name. Learn something new everyday, I suppose.
Anyway...

I'm Thomas Eskew, a 27 year old male that likes to make RPGs and draw comics. For most of the past nine years, Dragon Kingdoms has been the focus of my indie game development. I started making games in September 1998. I have made other things over time, with mixed results:

Dragon Warrior Remix, 1999. Just a standard DW remake on RPG Maker 95.
Dungeon Explorer, 1999 (unreleased). A dungeon crawler, before I found out that name was already used by Hudson in the early '90s.
Celestial Descent, 2001-02. What I really hoped would be something great turned out not so great, mainly due to limitations in graphics and in telling the story.
Dragon Warrior for RM2k, 2002 (unreleased). Advanced version of the 1999 game.
Where Legends Are Made, 2004 (unreleased). I briefly was in charge of developing this, as Rowen had lost interest. I really didn't get too far with it, however. Basically, you fought other characters in an arena, RPG-style. You could also break the town if you wanted. Development returned to Rowen sometime that summer.
Ghostlight August Project, 2006. A release for Demo Day at Ghostlight (now Township Games), it was a themed game that was made in three hours.

All in all, I've made eight complete games. Five are Dragon Kingdoms games, two are Dragon Quest remakes, and the other is a three-hour contest entry.
I live in Florida, a hot and humid state full of seniors. Hooray for me. I recently graduated from college (December 2006), as a B.A.S. (Bachelor's Applied Science) in Computer Technology Management at St. Petersburg College. It seems that I might have to leave the state (or at least this part) to get into my career.

Until then, it looks like I'll be staying with the local supermarket, Publix. It's not so bad, however, because on July 11, 2008, I'll have completed five years with enough time to count toward the stock plan (I've actually been there since 1999, but I didn't work enough hours a week to count until 2004). Then, I'll be 100% entitled to it. Right now, I can use none of it. For those in the Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, or Tennessee areas, or those considering moving to those states, Publix is really not a bad option for getting a job (but be prepared to work, most stores are VERY BUSY).

I didn't know until now that August was actually a name. Learn something new everyday, I suppose.
Anyway...

Its America, they think that 'Lance' is a real name.
My name is David Kinne and I'm from Independence, Missouri. I'm twenty years old at the moment. I have aspirations towards becoming either a writer, humorist, game designer, actor, psychologist or chef. Or any combination of that mess I can manage.

I am currently attending a local community college out of pocket in pursuit of these goals. I have no full time job at this time and have been supported by my parents. I deliver grocery ad newspapers on foot to fund my gaming vice and college pursuits.

I aspire to be a winsome, amiable, honorable and silly person. I adore laughter, children, morality, fairy tales, whimsy, non-sequitor and the bizzare conjurings of imagination.

I am a non-denominational protestant and am fond of the pursuit of personal morality. I'm keen on that God fellow, although I don't consider myself nearly close enough to 'em.

I am an extremely neurotic, and fairly dysfunctional person. I insist on dissecting my wonky psyche, and try my best to empathize with others as much as possible. I am very socially awkward and weird by most standards.

When it comes to gaming, I appreciate Adventure Gaming (Grim Fandango, Curse of Monkey Island,) RPGs, (Final Fantasy 9, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness) and Platformers (Silhouette Mirage, Super Mario Brothers 3) the most. However, I like all genres with the exception of Racing and Sports titles. Offbeat and weird games thrill me particularly.

My favorite books are the Hitch Hiker series by Douglas Adams and Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut. My favorite movies are Anchorman, Charlie Chaplin's City Lights, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Fiddler on the Roof. I love classical music, soundtracks and folk music, particularly Celtic.
Steve Fidler. 21. Born in St Annes, England. Moved to Toronto Ontario when I was 4. Lived here ever since.

Once I graduated High School I went to Sheridan College to study Computer Programming. Left that course after a year and a half, as it wasn't quite what I expected. I am now entering the Architectural Technology course at the same college (starting September.)

I like to think that my specialties in Game Making comes through as Game Design (designing and implementing gameplay elements) and 2D Interface Design. Although I am a pretty decent coder and artist when the need arises.

My favorite games are Super Metroid, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 12 and Crystal Chronicles (in that order.)

I'm pretty wide-spread in my taste of music, movies and literature. My two favorite authors are David B. Coe (Children of Amarid series) and H.P. Lovecraft. My two favorite movies are probably Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men. And my ipod consists of Video Game remixes, Death Metal (Children of Bodom and Atreyu), Rock (Plus 44 and The Ataris), some smooth jazz and some Dance Dance Revolution music.
My name is Jon Davies (for those that don't know, my online alias is an anagram of my real name.) I am 25 years of age and I currently reside in a town called Eastleigh, just on the outskirts of Southampton, England. I have lived all my life in the UK and the south of the country too, though I have jumped a bit from place to place wihin the vicinity.

My current job (or at least will be until the redundancy kicks in) is a graphic artist for a mobile phone games company called IOMO, part of Infospace. I have been here for three years now and worked on lots of fun, as well as not-so-fun games while being there. Before that I was studying a Bachelor of Arts course on Interactive Multimedia. a few years back I used to go back to the same course and give guest lectures to the students there on 2D and 3D game art in general.

My involvement in the RPG Making community began when a friend of mine showed me a game he had found named Pikachu's Quest. After a bit of searching for the game, the application it was made with and the community attached to it, I had found NeXus and decided to stay there after the first screenshots I posted of my first game project got some nice feedback. After that I had jumped about a bit to other communities, such as Don's Boards, Heresay, GamingWorld and Imbiss. I have met many friends along the way and kept in touch with a few of them to this day.

Though I am first and foremost a Nintendo fanatic (some might even call "mascot"), I do own and play a 360 and a PSP occasionally. I also like jazz and classic music, reading and long walks, as long as there is food at the end of the walk.
God. I feel so young.

Yeah. I'm 17. My name is Aaron Crawford, though almost no one (online) knows me by that persona. I "entered" the community around early 2005 at GW, during which I also made an AIM account of the same title (BlindMind) and stopped using my other ones. It took a while for me to really get to know anyone outside from posting at GW, but it happened eventually. (When it did, two or three horrible "partnetship" projects came up that I do not want you to remember!). I started my current project around Winter of 2005 and have been working on it on and off since then... though I ended up losing the majority of what I had created last summer and essentially had to start over from scratch.

I'm a teenger, so of course, I don't have a real job. I worked as a Bus Boy in a restauraunt where my Grandmother served as a chef, but upon her retiring, I've decided I want to try and look for something that I have... slightly more interest in. I hope to attend a college in Vermont and major in either a form of Creative Writing or Electronic Game & Interactive Development, but we'll see how that unfolds according to how much I slack off next year in school.

I have pretty boring hobbies. Some of them include Writing, Biking, Running (Track), Drawing, RPGMaker, wasting time online, etc. I enjoy a variety of music, though my preference happens to lie with Alternative Rock (and move/game soundtracks, but that goes without saying). I don't read a lot, nor do I have the time to, but happen to be a huge, huge fan of the Harry Potter books, and Stephen King's Dark Tower series, to a lesser extent.

More than anything else, I am an avid Nintendo fan. I also admit to being a complete fanboy. With this out of the way; I will make it known that I also own a PS2 (who doesn't?) and regularly play that, as well. My favorites games; in no particular order, are probably: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII and IX, God of War II, Super Mario RPG, Banjo Kazooie... and both of the Kingdom Hearts games. I pretty much fall in love with everything Square Enix puts out, though.

My talents as a Game Designer (at least in terms of RPGMaker!) have unfortunately been labeled as purely aesthetic by a number of individuals. Luckily, I have no problems with this, as I feel that having ANY skill is better than not having any at all. Further, I plan on using what I can do mildly well to make my projects as enjoyable as they can be.

Phil, 25 year old living in Des Moines, Iowa. Been engaged to my awesome fiancee, Crystal for a year or so. Marriage is in about 2 years.

I'm up in the air career wise. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in music education, taught band for a year, and didn't exactly fall in love with it. Right now I'm a mortgage loan officer at Wells Fargo Financial, whose corporate HQ is here in Des Moines.

I'd been dedicated to music since a very young age. My parents put me in piano lessons starting at age 6, violin in 3rd grade, trumpet in 5th grade, and I picked up the guitar in high school. Went to college on a full ride music scholarship, so logically I figured I'd get a music degree!

RPGmaker started out as a mere platform for the music I love to compose. Composing music has always been one of the most cathartic and satisfying activities I can possibly do. I was also a huge gamer nerd, so I tried making a game. It wasn't for a few years after that experimentation that I really decided to go with it, and thus, LoD was finished as sort of a revised experiment. LoD2 is starting out quite differently, with my acquired knowledge and deliberate intent to make a game, not a mere music platform.

Wells Fargo keeps trying to get me to get a consolidation loan, but it never goes through (bad credit, I suppose). Put in a good word for me.

Also, I feel so old...
My name is Chris Young. I'm 20 years old, living in Hawaii. I'm currently getting my AA at a community college, after which I will probably move on to getting a Bachelor's in Information and Computer Science at the University of Hawaii. I intend on minoring in Japanese and will likely teach English in Japan for a few years.

I like anime, manga, video games, books, thinking about how awesome my game would be if I ever made it, and studying Japanese.

Most of the music I listen to is Japanese (be it pop, rock, or something else). Jazz is another favorite, though.

I'm not a fanboy of any of the consoles, but I do enjoy my 360, and I'm probably going to buy a Wii soon for the Virtual Console. My favorite game of all time is easily Chrono Trigger.

Also kentona is old and I'm cooler than Mr. Y.
I'm the youngest so far. I'm a 16 year old teen living in the east coast of Canada on an peninsula with the 2nd worst employment rates in the entire country (and one of the most highest crime rates). Right now I'm trying to get a summer job, maybe get a drivers licence. Looking at everyone's career I haven't got a clue on what I'm going to do in my later life.

I've been RMaking since the rm95 days, never really go into the community til about 2003-2004. Loved The Way, Blurred Line, some GGZ games, NigSek, and some others. Haven't been able to make even a demo due to my lack of motivation in trying to stick with one project.
