FEATURED GAMES
Posts
Can some one shed some light on as to exactly how the selection process goes? Also, is there a set date of a month in which an old featured game gets kicked off for a new one?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Sure. I will paraphrase what I said about this earlier in the thread.
The staff picks Features based on a variety of factors. Someone on the staff will suggest a game from the site that they enjoyed, and usually a few other staff members will check it out to see if they agree it should be featured. Right now we pick only complete games, though this wasn't always the case (and might not be forever.) Generally, we try to find a game that is high quality, but we also try to mix up the genres from month to month, represent the various different game-making programs, as well as highlight different creators instead of the same few over and over. (although we can't help that a high number of complete, quality games come from the same few people.) We also try to Feature newly completed games, though we also feature old classics. If we feel like a good game has gone under the radar, we will sometimes Feature a game to put the spotlight on it. If a game wins a contest, there's a good chance it might get featured as well.
Obviously we can't possibly feature every single good game out there but we try out best to make sure that quality products get recognized.
Featured games currently go up on the first of every month (we were a few days late this month.)

Plus, kentona recently went on at length in the Hyper magazine article about how old school games were what this community was supposed to be making and enjoying the most. Yet featuring a game from that demographic results in rage and disagreements?
Maybe this is just a poor choice of words, but I don't like the idea of someone telling me what I'm "supposed to be making". Old school games definitely inspire us but there are many negative things in those old games that should never be replicated(endless slow walk speed?). If anything we should be making new-old school games, but really we just use the tool to make whatever we have floating around in our brains. I think the rage comes from the fact that 2k(3) RTP graphics are way overplayed and RMN should be about moving forward and improving, not being stale and outdated. Most of us have played and enjoyed the old era, but if you are going to bring it back you should at least be innovative about it. At least that's how I see it. FoH isn't bad, but there is nothing outstanding about it. Maybe some people think a featured game should be something new, exciting, or just really well made. Not just average(or below average in some people's eyes).
I don't dislike Space Funeral, only its fans.
Eh..? How does that work?
For the record, I don't think Space Funeral is that great. It's entertaining for its quirkiness but... that only carries something so far.
For the record, I enjoy making rehashes of old school gameplay mechanics. So that's what I said in that interview, and I am going to be biased in my view of the greater community because of that.
My word is not gospel.

I love how the positive review for this game is on the news-feed and yet the others are not...
(Is Silviera staff now?)
(Is Silviera staff now?)
He's a Staff Reviewer and all staff reviews get on the front page news feed. This is how it has been for at least quite a while now.

Meh. I wasn't sure since his reviews don't appear below the featured game blurb like Solitayre's do...
Looks like AAG made the featured games for november! Congrats Neok, and let me also say, did anyone think it would be otherwise?
If it didn't, then I would have officially given up on this site. Congrats, Neok! This totally well deserved.

"My favroite gam isn;t featured! wahh I quit"
Anywho, a well-deserved feature for Neok's
