Grow up, please, FG.

Puzzle games are as legitimate as any other kind of game.

Boring. And Pong isn't a puzzle-game.

Puzzle games are as legitimate as any other kind of game.

In your opinion, perhaps, but not in mine. As for growing up, I fail to see what is immature about my opinion that puzzle games are "illegitimate". An unpopular opinion, maybe...

I think that Max is pissy about not getting a featured game.

But his already had one of his games featured. Mage Duel.
He actually wanted to nominate a different game by someone else.

Puzzle Quest, Lumines, Loco Roco, and Professor Layton are absolutely fantastic puzzle games and are on the top list for games to buy on a handheld.

Also games that should be part of another game? What? What genre includes puzzles other than RPGs? You CANNOT get a puzzle game inside of another genre that is as deep as the games I just mentioned. Don't even try to prove me wrong because you can't.

Sure it's your opinion, but really...how do you even say that's a fair and valid one?

You've never played Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver, Fear Effect, Prince of Persia etc. style games? They're littered with interesting puzzles. How about FPS like Metroid? Or old-school side-scrollers like Dizzy and Castlevania? I suppose games like the Metal Gear series could probably be mentioned here too, and you've always got games like the Oddworld series. I mean, do you seriously think there are no puzzles in games that aren't RPGs? How do you call that a fair and valid opinion..?

As for the games you mentioned: Puzzle Quest isn't a straight puzzle-game like Tetris, is it? Ergo, it isn't really valid for comparison. Besides, since it does much more than just be a puzzle game it is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned puzzles being better when they are part of something more. Professor Layton also reinforces this point. Loco Roco is more of a platformer than a puzzle game leaving Lumines as the only straight puzzler, and Lumines was just a duller version of Tetris. Basically, thank you for reinforcing my point.

Actually he didn't. You are too narrow-minded on what "puzzle game" means.

By your logic, any RPG with an ability system, ATB battle system, or more modern system, is no longer an RPG because it doesn't work just like Dragon Quest I.

So wait. Because Tomb Raider has lite puzzles that involve block pushing, puzzle games are pointless? The kind of 'puzzles' in games like you have mentioned are normally very simple when compared to an actual puzzle game. Also, Oddworld is more of a puzzler than anything else. Your scope of what a puzzle game is, is far too limited.

Also, what exactly ARE Puzzle Quest and Professor Layton if not puzzle games? Who says puzzle games can't evolve when EVERY OTHER GENRE has?

Seriously, trying to argue against hima's game on this basis is ridiculous. Especially since I have never seen an rpgmaker 'puzzle' come even close to replicating it.
It doesn't matter, the core of those games (Professor Layton, Puzzle Quest) are puzzles. The gameplay is almost completely puzzle based. You could also say that the Adventure games like Tomb Raider are better when they are part of something more (PUZZLES!). Perfectly valid.

But yes, most of those games are interactive puzzles. You can't really compare them to the games I said because they play very differently. So yes, they are in more than just RPGs (oh no, you got me).

I'm done though. I don't feel like continuing this.

Yes, that's exactly the point I was making... ::)

What I am actually doing is making a clear distinction between what I call "straight-puzzle" games (ala Tetris) and other puzzle games, just like we can all make the distinction between Western and Japanese RPGs. I simply do not like "straight-puzzle" games, something this featured game is, and I'm firmly of the opinion that to be interesting a puzzle-game requires something more, that something more being part of a bigger game; such as being a hybrid-puzzle game.

Yeah actually I wanted Demon Tower to be the featured game YOU GIGANTIC FUCKING ASSHOLE.

I don't know if you're PMSing or what but this is the second time you were REALLY MEAN TO ME for no fucking reason in a public thread in the space of one week's time. I don't know what I did to you but I better not get any shit for this post because I can't just be expected to take people's random and unwarranted abuse all the time without responding.

And yes, I am very sensitive about this kind of shit, everyone have a fucking chuckle.

This is not an ANGRY RETORT but fact: Demon Tower doesn't deserve Featured Game... it's fun, but there are plenty of bugs and little incomplete/rushed things that add up to make it not Aurora Wing, Dondoran, MotW or SkyE. It was a cobbled-together demo made in a week from the scripts/common events I had been working on for the better part of a month. I am very pleased with the reception it got, but it simply isn't material that should be put on the main page as an EXEMPLAR. Maybe when it's a bit bigger. =D

Also, I like you but disapprove of your posts sometimes. I do not think that
:|
makes a decent reply and inferred a meaning from it. As for the other REALLY MEAN post, I guess maybe because I've known about the RMN3 big change or whatever for a while I've accepted it (how dramatic), but I thought your crazy crusade against it was totally uncalled for. And, like, I would have said that to anybody who made multiple very negative posts about something as inevitable (and minor) as socialism. Summary: INTJ.
If Mage Duel can make featured game, so can Demon Tower.
And also it should be reiterated that Featured Games are almost always overlooked games. They also tend to be either completed or cancelled. Mage Duel sort of breaks that pettern but whatever. Demon Tower is really popular (Mage Duel wasn't at first) and doesn't need much help gaining fans. It's our way of recommending something most RMN members probably have passed by. Honestly, do you think anyone would have tried DotPlus otherwise?
