WHAT VIDEOGAMES ARE YOU PLAYING RIGHT NOW?

Also immediately put a point in Guardian. It's a 10% damage reduction for the first point!
that's pretty hefty for one skill point! also surprised at how good the Prince's passive healing stuff is even with relatively few points in it (and all the new ways to recover TP, etc.)

anywho thanks 4 the hot tipz & trix, at this point i'm getting the feeling my attempt at a heavily offensive party this early in the game was probably a little misguided, and i really should have known better from my (occasionally disastrous) EO2 experiences. still this game feels a lot more lenient with the makeup of your party with all the subclass craziness and good abilities that don't take millennia to learn and whatnot. also making money is mad easy with the sea stuff which is nice!

edit: cocicookie, if your medic has immunize you literally cannot have problems in EO1. it's broken as hell. uhh just get Salve II or whatever the good healing spell is called though. with immunize you will probably never have to revive anyone anyway.

Correct skill point usage is: why the fuck are you playing EO1
I just scored a copy of Golden Sun: The Lost Age for a measly $15 at a local game store, plus a copy of Final Fantasy V for the GBA for $10 or so. So I'll be playing one of those in the near future fo sho.
Ordered Two Worlds 2 yesterday for the PS3. Why didn't I know this game is out?! Even though Two Worlds 1 was somewhat buggy and broken, there were many things to enjoy and I liked the game overall. And now I saw TW2 reviews(not many of them yet), previews, videos, and it looks gorgeous. Not expecting much, but hoping for a pleasant surprise.

To add to the EO3 talk: I am now at the start of floor B3F (what does the B mean anyway) with my Prince/Hoplite in the front and Arbalist/Zodiac/Monk. So far so good, those Largebills I keep hearing about dont pose much threat, they only have too much hp compared to others on 2nd floor. I got my Arbalist a 250en weapon, and oh my god so much damage with either normal attacks or the multi-enemy skills. Now I just need more money for armor, better weapons for the rest of my party, and for sea exploration, so far I can afford only those 20en trips for fish close enough to the port.
B is for Below or Basement - standard convention is to have 1F, 2F, 3F for going up and B1F, B2F, B3F for going down.

Playing through the new Back to the Future game. I usually don't like adventure games, but it's pretty fun! Especially if you're a fan of the films. Christopher Lloyd is back to voice the Doc, and the guy who voices Marty does such a convincing job of mimicking Michael J. Fox's voice that it's incredibly impressive.
@Craze
My only excuse for playing EO1 is 'cause EO2 and 3 are currently sat in a folder on my PC and I haven't bothered moving them back on my R4i yet, along with everything else I shifted off so I could format it and put games back on.

"B" is basement - the crone of the Senatus always calls them "basements."

The reason you're not scared of Largebills is because you have two heavy armor people up front. They have a high ATK score that is scary to Gladiators/Buccaneers/Monks/anybody else in your front row through B4F. :<

Have you bought some Giant Kill class skill for your Arbalist? It's terrific for taking down single-target FOEs or Great Anacondas.

Man, FF XII is a long game. There's literally too much to do, dammit.

I'm over 90 hours in and I only now just went to the giant tower on a distant shore...

Damn you, hunts! And finding all those espers, and all those damn sidequests...

Aside from trying desperately to finish Twelve, I'm also plodding slowly along the psp port of Star Ocean 2. When I played the game on the playstation, I always always always played claude, and got ashton and precis, as well as the rest of the possible characters.

So this time I decided since it was all new now, I'd try Rena's story, and this time get all the other characters (except ernest and noel) I didn't get before. I'm noticing a lot of new private actions - (Now I know why the hell they had "Zandor's Mansion" in harlie...) and most of the voice acting is really good. I'm a bit of a munchkin so I got the "Sprite's Bracelet" (trickster) in Kurik (Clik), which should make the game super easy.

I really love how this game can be played two ways - the normal way for a nice long journey; and then there's the munchkin way for those who have played the game before and can easily abuse it's secrets. Achieving talents to get a huge bonus of skill points in the beginning, talent scumming, gettung huge amounts of fol through "Purity" and town skipping to get pickpocketing, determination, and the thief glove. All that equals never needing to worry about money or items again.

Now I just have to figure out how to make rena not suck enough to kill zandor...
That's funny! I've been playing Final Fantasy XII for the last three days too! I'm 60 hours into it and I just got to the Tower. Right now I'm going through and finding that esper in the sewers.

And I've been playing Total Carnage from arcade classics 2! I think Midway inspired me to make a game with outrageous sound effects!

Once I beat XII I'm going to beat my girlfriend. Kidding!

I have to admit, while not scared, I start to hate Largebills too, because while playing today, they decided to show up in every random encounter on B2F, draining my monks MP quickly. Damn those birds, maybe I should finish exploring the 2nd floor during night, no Largebills during night it seems.

My Arbalist has 1 point in that skill, and a pretty nice weapon compared to other party members, so while the prince or hoplite do around 25-30 dmg on the Largebills, the arbalist scores around 80 with Heavy Shot, so I can usually take them down in 2 turns. But I dont know if she hits so much because of the skill, or because of the 250en weapon and 5 points in crossbow mastery. Too bad I cant find any actual precise skill information (like how much defense does Guard Order give, how much attack does Attack Order give etc..)

hell of a lot more awesome than i was expecting it to be. slips into some kind of lame tropesy shit at times, but as i keep reminding myself, the source material is goddamn Lufia 2; tropsiest of lufias. the one on GBC is pretty close behind too.

anyway. as a long-standing diehard Lufia fan, i decided i owed it to myself to check this one out. i'm about 5 hours in right now- that's 5 hours without breaks; i've been carrying the DS around the house. didn't expect to get so engrossed.

the character customization is a liiiiittle bit broken though. i have always been a fan of the super-macho tank character (bonus points for LARGE SLOW UNWIELDY WEAPON) so i naturally gravitated to using Guy when i got him. you can equip 'mystic jewels' onto your dudes in a pretty cool table-system for stat boosts and abilities and stuff. that said, the game gives you so damn many jewels as drops shortly after introducing the system that i've managed to get almost every single boost for Guy, turning him into an unstoppable killing machine. doesn't diminish the FUN factor, though- figuring out the best attack combos/figuring out which enemies to use what on/etc. good times.

speaking of trope stuff though, i am really glad that this game does not fall into a lot of common RPG traps- especially those the source game fell into. namely: pointless houses. the only houses you can actually go into in towns in Curse of the Sinistrals are those that actually do something. i guess some people might miss that, but i am not a fan of going into a house in hopes of finding something interesting or hearing something cool and hearing "welcome to corneria" or "the princess is such a nice girl."
designers: if you're going to do this in your game, make meaningful conversations for your NPCs or don't include them. if you want to tell the player "welcome to corneria," have them read a damn sign.

oh, did i mention they turned it into an action RPG?

a damn good one, at that. eat my ass and balls, as well as your heart out, phantom hourglass.

Yeah, a lot of people say that the combat isn't that good, but I found it a lot of fun (I goddamn love Artea! <3) and easy enough to use. I prefer going into meaningless houses and raiding the cupboards, but I still really like this game. As for the jewels - wait until you can enhance them. You need lots of them to make super-awesome levelled-up jewels - which give more stat boosts!

And good luck with bloody Gades. That bastard takes forever to kill.

In other news - I am entranced by Rune Factory 3. It's by far the best of the series - the story is delightful, the characters, enchanting, the graphics, gorgeous, the combat, exciting. I could go on, but I won't. It's just a great game.

Also, Seiken Densestu 3 = <3. That is all.
holy shit why didn't i know that Lufia 2 DS existed

i cannot tell a lie; this had me laughing

welp one more DS game to buy i guess (i heard the new Golden Sun isn't the greatest so maybe i'll skip that)

same goes for Rune Factory 3, i haven't bothered with the series since the first one but i'd love to get back into it
Final Fantasy V

It's amazing how awesome yet low key this game is. Like, sneak into your window and bang your girlfriend while you're downstairs at a millionaire fundraiser/cocktail party lowkey-awesome.

It's probably worth buying, but I recommend keeping a tv nearby because it redefines never shutting the hell up. When they start talking just mash A and watch TV. Then just open up the "travel log" to save, and read the top screen and it'll tell you in one simple sentence what you need to do next. Not the mountains of slow painful dialogue. Also, the overly happy emotion you can pick is all you need.

this is the one 16-bit-and-below FF i have yet to play. i will have to pick it up based on that (awesome) description.

that's pretty much what my friend who's been playing it has said too. i find it kind of impossible to play games and watch TV at the same time anymore (probably because i just never watch TV), but we'll see. i'll wait for the price to drop either way.

tardis you definitely should play FFV because it is one of the best FFs and uhhhhhh is your new avatar Guy from Lufia DS?
because he looks like some eldritch abomination that is equal parts Tidus, Wakka, and a shaved bear
