Final Fantasy VIt's amazing how awesome yet low key this game is. Like, sneak into your window and bang your girlfriend while you're downstairs at a millionaire fundraiser/cocktail party lowkey-awesome.

Funny, but I hadn't read your post correctly and was all like, "I don't remember having to sneak into the girls' room..."
Yeah, FFV is pretty good especially the job system. Faris is just so awesome.

FFV is the only one I haven't played either. well, that's not true - i got to these ghost ships, but anyway...

Having Just finished Final Fantasy XII, I must say I feel rather conflicted. I've never really had the experience of loving a game to death up until the endgame. I didn't feel like everything was explained enough, or given enough time to bloom into a larger tale. The "climactic" final dungeon felt like something you'd see in the mid point of another rpg. When I was headed there, I was like "Seriously? Is this... the end?" I mean, I kinda knew it was coming, but even so.

It's like I was playing one game up until Giruvegan, and then after that I was playing another game.
The whole time I played twelve, everything seemed to be just a small piece of a much larger puzzle, but by the end It was like most of the pieces were irrelevant. I don't know, It's hard to explain.

The real problem I had with it I guess is that there really wasn't a lot of character development from anybody! Not the heroes, and especially not the villains. Maybe I'm just used to other JRPGs where the villains wax philosophical for 20 minutes each time they show up, but before the final dungeon, cid and vayne really don't even make an appearance.

And don't get me started on those
Occuria... Suddenly, they are part of the story as the undying super-beings behind all history, telling you how awesome they are and how much you suck - and then you don't even freaking see them again! And what the heck was all that "awakening bahamut" stuff? Do the ships run on mist and they didn't have enough? One cutscene refers to it as some kind of deity almost, and then suddenly they're talking about it like they all knew it was a ship all along. And it was a huge ass-pull in the first place - not once did you even hear about the damn super weapon at all! And why the hell is Venat even doing all this for!? I don't know, because the story doesn't think that's important. And after destroying the Sun-Cryst - why aren't the occuria pissed off? Shouldn't there be some... consequences?

I'm really sorry to say that it's very obvious two directors worked on this game. I can understand why the first one left - He'd set up a huge game world with massive possibilities. Unfortunately, he took too much time setting those up that there was no way to satisfactorially wrap it up without making the game take up more than 80 hours.

It's really unfortunate about the end-game being how it was - because up until then, I was having a blast. I've never seen a game like this before. A beautifully rendered and fleshed out world, enough side quests to fill another godamned game, fantastic gameplay that I never tired of (though some do), emotive characters, great voice acting, enemies, supplemental notes, bosses, camera angles, and christ the music!... everything! One thing that always impressed me were the sheer number of NPCs in the game - never have I been in an rpg town that felt more real and alive. There's people running around everywhere, talking with each other, and those are just the one's you can't talk to! Not to mention most of them change what they have to say frequently as the story progresses - no mean feat.

Anyway, at risk of being a little too long winded let me just say this. tl;dr: First 3/4 of game 9/10 - last 1/4 of game 7/10.

I finally managed to snag a PSP for Christmas, so I'm pouring my life down the drain into P3P. I've also got Crisis Core, which I've heard mixed things about, but haven't really gotten a chance to check out yet.

Regarding Crisis Core - While many parts of it can be hit or miss, the ending will give you manly tears.
Playing Fable 3 for the most part, and just started playing through Vacant Sky to see what the fuss is all about.
Well, I've been playing Phantom Brave for the most part, and a bit of Pokémjon Crystal on the side.
My friend is being mean and won't let me borrow his copy of Persona 3 FES again. >: | Now THAT is a good game.

And good luck with bloody Gades. That bastard takes forever to kill.

i just got to Gades fight part deux.
he keeps completely wasting my shit. most of this is a result of my completely sucking at this type of boss fight in aRPGs in general. i'm more of a strategy dude than a memorize-the-pattern-and-dodge-the-attacks dude.

the fucker just killed me again aaaaaaarrrrggggggghhhhh why
add to it that the internet told me i get BONUS SHIT for killing him in under 2 minutes or something, so i have actually thrown out good runs for taking too long. somebody put me out of my misery aaaaa

I've decided that Craze has about the same taste as mine in games.

I played Etrian Odyssey for many days straight and it IS great (not quite as good as Covenant of the Plume but almost).

It's funny how certain classes look awesome than actually turn out to suck and vice versa.

I used to think Ninja was awesome than thought it actually sucked and then thought it's awesome again.

Prince/princess is just plain awesome at first (Royal Veil FTW) but get a bit more useless later on when the HP gain is isignficant compared to what you're getting.

Monk is vital, too bad it sucks at combat (yeah even with that unarmed skill).

Gladiator/Hoplite are great damage dealers.

I thought the beast summoner sucked, so did the Arbalist and the Buccaneer as well as the Zodiac but that might change.

Farmer is useful for certain things but otherwise useless as a real party member.

By reducing the Ninja TP cost and getting blood return for the Monk, you can summon clones of yourself (with Ninja) who will then give you loads of TP when defeated.

So basically my party is:

Front:
Hoplite, Gladiator

Back
Ninja, Monk, Prince

I can defeat FOE who hit once a turn easily both those foes who attack the whole party give me a really hard time (read: I can't beat them). I'm talking about the Ghost Ship here.

You just gotta jump a lot. Also, 2 minutes? Fuck that shit! I had to 'level up' about 4 times (to about level 30) before I was good enough to beat him. I recommend a team of Selan and Maxim - Bring Selan out when his eye comes out and use her special ice throw to deal continuous damage. Maxim jumps like a fskin' kangaroo, so when Gades closes that eye, jump, little man, jump! Also, if you have the fall damage null skill you can just fall off the cliff to dodge his attacks then be invulnerable for about 5 seconds or so.

Hey, maybe save a game before you fight him, (seperate spot) and then keep dying to level up to about 60 or so - then show that fucker who's boss!

But seriously - fuck him. He was just as hard in the original game (unless you did the second NG+ with double experience).

Bet you can't wait to get to the 100 floor dungeon, though. It isn't too far away - just gotta get through that cutscene. ^.~

For you people who want absolute EO3 skill info:

Creation: All of the classes have definite uses, although some are definitely boss-killers and some are definitely normal dungeon run folks. Buccaneers are terrific against FOEs and bosses, while some Ninja builds are good for those and others for general use. Wildings can be useful for their debuffs; their summons can become very useful if you make the TP investment worthwhile by pumping their Beast Soul class skill - it's practically a requirement if you want them to be useful summoners.

Have you tried a Reinforce (heal when buffing) Prince/ss executing Charge Tactic? They have to be the one you select it for through the Skills menu, but it's a free attack boost/party heal that stacks with Attack Order. =D

THANKS, exactly what Ive been looking for. Will put it to use.... when I am not playing Two Worlds 2 that is :D
So we were agreeing Street Fighter was a rehash series.
But it isn't; almost all of them are pretty fundamentally different from one another once you see past 'oh hey wasn't that dude with the headband in the other street fighter'
The same characters, the same moves, the same clothes, the same 2D movement, etc.

I mean if it wasn't a rehash series, then why do they make at least 3 versions of the same game in the main series, every single sequel? To make up for lost money.

yes because clothes are what makes a fighting game

Like if you want me to break down the stark differences in playstyle between something like Street Fighter 2 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 (to the point where they're almost...entirely different games) let's go.

Also 2D movement hardly isn't unique to SF and its a genre in itself. They actually tried a 3D Street Fighter and fucking everyone hated it and had almost no value in competitive play (not that 3D fighters don't have any value; look at Tekken and VF)

I mean if it wasn't a rehash series, then why do they make at least 3 versions of the same game in the main series, every single sequel? To make up for lost money.

Because every version is usually a rebalance, adding extra content, fixing bugs, altering the playstyle, or responding to fan requests.

Whether or not you want to argue Capcom's competency of doing things right the first time, rereleases are a fan staple of the series than fans have come to appreciate and even expect.

I mean by your logic, the King of Fighters series is an even worse offender.
Even Soul Caliber adds, some noticable non-rehash changes. Hell, Street Fighter 4 is SLOWER than soul Caliber 4. That's just freaking sad.
Street Fighter IV is 'slow' because that's the type of game it is; that's not a pro or a con. And Super Street Fighter IV and regular SFIV are almost entirely different games; the content, characters, and options they added are immense for that game.
They are the same game with more characters and game modes. Said added characters, if seen before, have the same move sets.

Mortal Kombat is a much more enjyable game with a great story backing it up.

Tekken...

Soul Caliber is a more adventurous game.

Street Fighter 3 and 2 were not as slow as 4. 3rd strike being the best street fighter game period.
you are fucking retarded for having these opinions about video games
