INTERNET PERSONA VS "REAL LIFE" PERSONA

The internet isn't there for me to be polite all the damn time.
On the web, I can let loose a little bit.
These are words of wisdom.
I used to really love internet communities and devote all of my time to them.
Now that I'm an adult with a real job and graduate studies . . . I am not really that interested. I like to check in every now and then.
Consequently, my internet persona has become more like my actual persona. When I used to spend a lot of time in internet communities, I had a certain alter-ego that would take over. This alter-ego was actually a pretty big jerk! I don't feel like I need to behave that way anymore, though.
I think when people spend a lot of time online, they create a different version of themselves. I was no exception.

As opposed to those fake adults.
I DID ENJOY WORKING AND LIVING IN MY VERY OWN APARTMENT TODAY GUYS. I CAN'T WAIT TO GO WAKE UP TOMORROW, SHOWER IN MY OWN SHOWER, DRIVE TO STARBUCKS TO PICK UP A GRANDE LATTE COOLER BLENDED HAPPY CHOCOLATE, AND SIT AROUND THE OFFICE ALL DAY.
Okay, well, I'm a better speaker online, but we're pretty much the same guy. I tend to stutter more/not think about what I'm going to say as much in real life. Sorta an awkward speaker like Paul Rudd from I Love You, Man. But it's getting better, slowly but surely.

I am a superior being, the best artificial intelligence ever created by myself. Real life and the internet are not separate from each other.
I am living on your network! You can not escape!
Edit: Let's see if I made a serious post in this topic at some point.
Edit2: Nope. Oh well.

I remember studies. So long, long ago...
Now I sit in an office cubicle putzing around on a forum. *sigh*

I'm not gonna lie. I can easily say that I am different online from my real life persona. When I'm sober anyway.
Though recently, I've come out of my shell (perhaps because I'm an adult now) and I'm much more open and more like my internet persona. Since then I've found connecting with people in real life so much more thrilling and have devoted way more of my time to be social! I fricken love my booze!

The only thing different from my internet persona is my love for cheeseburgers and that men love me just as much as women.

Hey, a lot of us are real adults with jobs and studies too, you know! :(
I wasn't implying you weren't :(
I like to be as honest about my real life personality as I am in my online personality - I dislike confrontations and arguing, and though I may make the odd snarky comment here or there or act snobbish, generally I try to be a good egg.
The thing is (as the OP says) being online gives you lots of time to think your answers through, and this is something I really wish I had the luxury of in real life as I stutter a lot and say dumber things because of lack of time spent thinking about it. Part of this though is the amount of confidence you are afforded when you have the typical virtual "safety net" surrounding everything you do - generally I will be more adventurous with the things I say online than in real life. Sometimes it's good to take some of the outlandish (though not outright offensive) things you say online and use them a bit in the real world to make yourself an interesting person. It's quite ironic how some of the nerdiest things about my life have lead to the most interesting social gatherings that I've really enjoyed!
Lastly, I really REALLY hate my own voice, and being online spares myself and others from it. :D

no difference. end statement.
So you spout off extremely brief, useless quips that nobody cares about offline too? :D
I'm actually a lot more of an asshole online than I am offline. In real life I'm actually very quiet. My philosophy is that if you're never going to have any major connection to the person, there's no reason to care about hurting their feelings, so censoring yourself is pretty much unnecessary. And no offense, but I doubt I'll ever actually know any of you in real life. =]
That's indeed a very asshole-ish philosophy. Personally, I try to be as nice as possible exactly because I don't know the person I'm talking to. Even when I strongly disagree with someone's opinion and it seems to me like they're just picking a fight, I keep in mind that that might not be true because I don't know them. Plus, I'm a politeness freak, so that might have something to do with it.
Although I'm not the type of person who has a high BS tolerance and I do give people a piece of my mind when it really comes down to it.

meh: You should've seen some of his rages.
As for me, I am more like my internet personality in real life as you get to know me.

Do you use contractions in real life?
On the other hand not censoring yourself and being "an asshole" may connect you to just the kind of people you want to connect with rather than the "shallow and polite" acquintances that can sometimes occur in that dreaded "real life".
So for some politeness is just that social construct used to hide our true selves :D
