Oh, and not to double-post, but just to respond to Dr. Casey...

The reason why people think of the internet as shit, dear, is because most of the people online are, themselves, shit.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. It was just clumsily worded.

You have to establish a repoire with someone before you can be all fun and games being a dick. My boss and I give each other so much crap, but it's quite clear that it's a sign of familiarity. I didn't just come out of no where in the job interview and start calling him a "senile old man" right away, we had to develop a relationship first. You can't just come right out with a complete stranger and be an obnoxious ass. It happens all the time by self-proclaimed proud assholes on the internet, and it's a sign that they have no social skills.
Why the fuck not? If I don't like somebody, why do I have to pretend to be nice just so that their little pussy feelings don't get hurt? That's a lot of crap.

Brace yourself because this is going to blow your mind. If you don't like someone...

>>>don't talk to them.<<<

For most people, this is natural. Time is precious, and time spent talking to someone you don't like just to be an ass to them 4 teh lulz is not time well-spent. But some people have an abundance of free time due to lack of job/life.

I agree with the losers who are saying being mean is fun. They're right. I love being mean to people as well. With lots of people I know, the meaner they are to a person, the closer they are to that person, because if they're close to that person, then they know where their limits are, and know what dickish behavior is OK and what is not. Being a dick is great when it's fun and games.

The thing about not being mean to strangers isn't anything about respecting them, it's just not wanting to make someone else feel bad. If you want to make it a selfish thing, then you can say you don't want to make them feel bad, because you've had dicks make fun of you or treat you as less than them, and you know how much it hurts. Most people just have something called empathy, and don't like seeing other people squirm unnecessarily. I guess the more detached from society the lesser the social skills a person has, and stereotypically atleast (although I think it's true a substantial amount of the time) people who spend lots of time on the internet are retarding their social skills a little bit by not building real social connections and learning about how to behave in the real world or anything.

Then, when these "internet people" get together on the internet with the same idea of "fuck everyone", they start patting each other on the bum thinking they're the top shit and eventually they'll pick up Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, then read the summary on Wikipedia because it was too long, and look down on people who can't take their objective analysis of the shittiness and weakness of people's character who can't stand the internet people's lack of social intelligence.

Then something happens to that "internet person". Let's say their sister has a miscarriage, and then he needs to let it out somewhere. Because, "WOW MAN!", this is now serious. This is about life now. This isn't just joking around, the the "internet people" decided it was for everyone up until that point. Now the "internet person" needs to unload his heart to the world and let people know that actually he suffers and that bitches never let him touch their boobs because they're too fucking stupid, and how all they want is acceptance but no one does because they'Re too stupid.

At this point the Captain Canuck (not me, the superhero, idiot. fucking think shit for brains) comes out of nowhere and tells everyone go to ride their bikes and pick up the garbage on the ground and put it in the trash, and all of a sudden people are cleaning their room, cooking their meals and going to the library where the construction workers are reading Shakespeare and the kids are looking at porn on the internet for the first time getting ready to become internet people. The "internet people" look. They know what's going to happen, and they're pleased. They're pleased the kid will pretend to read Ayn Rand and think he is a genius that is just misunderstood because words are an incapable method of communication. They hope that Captain Canuck won't come to them like Captain Canuck came to them (can't understand pronouns? Fuck.) and that they will live in ignorance and hell while the internet people plant flowers along the freeway while wanting to play Final Fantasy VIII on their PSP because they now live in Japan and it just came out, but they don't have enough to buy a new memory stick so they have space to download it.

Horrible advice if taken out of context - not interacting with people simply because you didn't "like" them wouldn't get you very far in life. Just thought I'd point that out.

Oh for God's sake.

This conversation has taken a dramatic turn for the retarded. You completely misunderstood me, YM.

It means, instead of GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY to be an ass to people, simply avoid being an ass at all. It was in opposition to Shaboba being dead fucking set on SEEKING OUT CONFRONTATION. Does this make sense to you yet, or do I need to draw a diagram?

Didn't mommy ever tell you "if you dont have anything bad to say, don't say anything at all" ? Or did you miss that memo?

Indeed. If I took this literally, I wouldn't have any friends.

I'm sorry, idiot, didn't I CLEARLY SAY IN A PREVIOUS POST that I don't go around looking for fights? If you interpret the way I handle other people as being confrontational, then you can go right ahead and continue to be wrong. Just don't put words in my mouth.

EDIT: I meant in my last post that most of the people I'm friends with now, I didn't like when I first met them.

Put 2 and 2 together, kiddo.

You said you shouldn't be polite to people you don't like.

Then you said not liking someone doesn't constitute a good reason for you to not be friends with them.

So we can logically conclude that you either treat your friends like shit, or you go out of your way to be an asshole to people you don't like, as you goons are arguing that it's better to SAY something negative/hurtful than to say nothing at all.

This is the twilight zone of social graces I guess. Everyone here feels that being an asshole is an admirable virtue. lawl... internet.
I don't find that condescendingness of yours to be very nice. Have some social skills when arguing for social skills.

Everyone here feels that being an asshole is an admirable virtue. lawl... internet.

Everyone here? Really?

Also,

I'm sorry, idiot

I'm assuming is an example of you being yourself and not hiding behind a fake wall of pleasantries. The big question is, why does the real you find people to be idiots? I think it's because you're uncomfortable with people having not understanding your opinion because you think you're opinion right too easily. Then when they disagree with you it frustrates you, because it's hard to explain what you mean and it should be obvious to everyone.

I'm pretending to be a first-year psychology student, and let me tell you, I'm having a blast. I mean no offense. I'm not the kind of person to do that sort of thing. I jest because I love.

Yes, Canuck, most of the replies to this thread have been clearly defending the God-given right to unprovokedly harass people on the internet. A fewer number have argued that people should be treated like human beings online as they are offline.
