WHAT IS YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE VIDEO GAME CHARACTER

I don't remember him being emo at all.
Garnet succeeds in something and Zidane gets all mopey since his main source of ass just became a queen

*edit*
I think it``s at the start of disk 3 then he plays some cards and Alexandria gets nuked and he feels better
How have people forgotten about the whole "You're Not Alone" sequence?
Don't get me wrong, I loved that part of the game, but Zidane was feeling very sorry for himself.

I wonder, at what point is a character allowed to have angst and / or be sad without it being labeled "emo"?
Good question. Probably when people stop bashing jRPG's.
...but, yeah right, like that'll happen. -.-"

I have left Canada before the word emo was used like that, and by God I will not return until it stops. I thought late 90's use of the word was annoying...
Angst in games is usually done badly and often overstays its welcome.
Hell, if someone is going to do it badly, I'd rather it not show up at all.

I think that's less the issue, Karsu, than how quickly people are to label any character who demonstrates even a hint of weakness or sensitivity as being "emo," whatever the hell that even means.
As for this nonsense about Zidane being "emo," it's patently ridiculous. I can't think of a more upbeat protagonist in any game. Also, Vivi is pretty "emo" by you guys' standards but he's easily the most awesome and endearing character in the game.

Since it happens enough in games where the "heroes" have been doing the bad guy's work for him half the game, I always like it when they try to flesh out just how dickish they feel after they've figured it out. It annoys me when they just gloss over it and get back to the saving.
I also enjoy it when all of the party picks on the hero because he did something bad and he has to redeem himself, or he goes into a huge downward spiral of self-loathing until he perks up again just in time to save the day.
I want my characters to work and suffer for their happy ending - but it must be a happy ending. I can't stand it when a party member dies for good. No matter how happy, the ending isn't happy enough.

As a coralory to my statement above, It's really stupid when the main hero person gets all mopey for a dumb reason, or the mopeyness lasts too long without a good reason. I can't think of something off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone can.
A good example - Fei from Xenogears - he's got a pretty legitimate reason to be mopey half the time. He killed his girl next door by accident, gets banished, and some spoiler alerts later he's like - can't you just put me in stasis or something?

I think Garnet had a decent reason for the hamhanded mopeyness she went through. Too bad it resulted in the most worthless character of the game becoming an even bigger waste of ones and zeroes

I dunno, her "i can't attack this round" never really annoyed me at the time (as far as I remember) and she was usually in my party during the game when I had a choice. I kinda liked her racket attack. Speaking of her racket, one thing I love about certain RPGs is when they show the different weapons on the battle screen. I don't care so much about the armour, but the weapons are always a nice touch.
I used her the first time I played through because I had the ridiculous notion that I needed a healer. I found she could do three things:
1) Heal (which isn't that handy and Eiko is a better healer anyways and it'll move characters away from yellow HP to spam Charge!)
2) Put me to sleep and do pitiful damage while doing so
3) Take a spot away from somebody who can actually contribute in Charge!
Different looking weapons is cool too but in a game with such painful load times I'd rather everything loaded faster than going 'cool the stick looks different'. Then again, load times are only part of the bigger problem and loading the same weapon for every battle probably wouldn't help load times at all :(

post=121559i always thought it would be cool if they changed clothes with what they're equipped. nothing boring like armour though.

twould be such fun :D
(ok this is probably going to be called out as being gay)
I always used Garnet as my healer, but Eiko wouldve been just as good. I realise i tend to use characters i've started off with, or the characters most important to the games story no matter how shit they are.
I think this is why noone ever used shitty Yuffie, poor lass
Actually, gameplay/ability wise, Yuffie is one of the best characters in the game, and many, many people argue that Eiko is better than Garnet.
