CloseJust thought I'd try to change things up here a little bit, because I was going to make a topic focusing on the latest releases as well as some games that have been swept under the carpet, or at least seem like they were, but then I remembered that there already is a topic here like that!

Hottest game: Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis You might even argue this point for all of 2010.

With over a thousand downloads in just two weeks, Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis is putting up better numbers than some of the more obscure commercial games, and it's not hard to see why.
It does have its Guide-Dang-It moments, particularly later in the game. But overall, AAG is a solid RPG that, were it not for RM2k3's faults (and there are many), it would be just about perfect. Platforming is difficult to pull off in RM2k3, but Neok did quite well. You do have to run to jump, which means you may risk getting the enemies' attention, but at least jumps are automatic. Be sure to give this one a try if you haven't already.

We go from a non-traditional platforming RPG to a traditional, old school type RPG.
Okay... 700 years ago, the world of man was a place of peace. People lived their lives without fear, and mankind flourished. It didn't last. A great evil emerged, and laid waste to civilization. Also the main character is sixteen.
Uh-oh. This game sounds pretty dire, doesn't it. Well, maybe what it loses in story it can gain in gameplay. And, thankfully, it does... if you're into Dragon Quest type games, complete with saving only at churches, similar graphics, and its sound effects. Otherwise, you may want to give this one a pass. It isn't for everyone, but it is an average to slightly-above average RPG.

Apparently, this is a very early demo of a turn based strategy game. arikispencer wants to make it better than Fire Emblem, but from the very few screenshots available (only six!), it looks like it's going to be a lot of work for him. The screenshots lack variety, and are VERY empty, as well, but again, this is still very early.

Okay, the title is in ALL CAPS and has accompanying exclamation points, the game is in RTP, and the mapping is pretty dire. However, it does have some custom graphics. I have to wonder why AmuroC destroyed the original line art with one of the characters, though.
It's supposed to be a comedy type game, but I don't see what's so funny. Also, there are only eight screens total, only six are unique. The Game Over screen is pretty much a palette swap-type thing of the title screen. Also, Hiro is the hero (very unoriginal), and is the son of Dante (meaning Hiro is probably seventeen or younger... sigh) who seems to want to destroy everything he once tried to save.
It is a very early demo, however, so there's still plenty of time to polish this game up. At the very least, AmuroC is trying a different battle system, so watch this game!

I haven't played it, nor heard from anyone that has, as a hint to anyone viewing this list. What I will say is there are only five screens to judge from, and one of those is the title screen. Either this is a really short demo, or the author is trying to hide it from us, which is unfortunate. And if the blog is any indication, you only start with one ability per character. Give us more! Also the main character is sixteen.

The way the mapping looks, you'd think it was yet another traditional RPG. Actually, the game doesn't even seem to know what it wants to be! At least Crost isn't another teenage hero from some farming village, but he does have some rather... odd company. A cross-dressing effeminate male, Chryson, a maid that hates work, Ayna, and a swordsman with serious issues, Stain. Okay, maybe not THAT weird for an RPG, but it gets weirder.

Just your traditional JRPG-style game, complete with a sixteen year old hero that starts off in a farming village, that soon gets destroyed by some mysterious bad guy. The hero can't remember his past, and is prone to fits of angst.

Also, Hiro is the hero (very unoriginal), and is the son of Dante (meaning Hiro is probably seventeen or younger... sigh) who seems to want to destroy everything he once tried to save.
It is a very early demo, however, so there's still plenty of time to polish this game up. At the very least, AmuroC is trying a different battle system, so watch this game!

Either this is a really short demo, or the author is trying to hide it from us, which is unfortunate. And if the blog is any indication, you only start with one ability per character. Give us more! Also the main character is sixteen.

The way the mapping looks, you'd think it was yet another traditional RPG. Actually, the game doesn't even seem to know what it wants to be! At least Crost isn't another teenage hero from some farming village, but he does have some rather... odd company. A cross-dressing effeminate male, Chryson, a maid that hates work, Ayna, and a swordsman with serious issues, Stain. Okay, maybe not THAT weird for an RPG, but it gets weirder.

I released the demo for Dream Odyssey on March 3rd. Represent! Yeah, no. I did release the crappy demo though. It's gonna be way better when I finish. eventually.
