Here's the starting map of a game I'm working on. It's called Adventures in Monochroland, for obvious reasons. The only colors I'm using are white, black, and grey (and transparent), and for the music I'm using 8 bit versions of ragtime songs (mostly by Scott Joplin) and dixieland.
(yes I know the vertical gates need work)
later today I'm going to add in some animated flowers

i know it's already been said but holy crap it's chip from chip's challenge. i do not have words for how much i love chip's challenge. the fact that you'd even make an homage like this is pretty groovy.
Actually I forgot sphere has an export to image function, so I did a screencap of the edit screen, cropped it and removed the transparency squares (derp)
Trying to quickly put together a flash platformer for the valedictory game drive
I'm making it with a flash game engine called flixel so I don't have to program physics, basic tile maps collisions etc.
I'm not spending very much time on the graphics so they're not going to be anything fancy:

@Lennon: Ugh, I dunno about the trees. They look like they're covered in slime.
you look like slime, trees = awesome

I like the simile with Diablo, it brings back memories; but I think the “pick your class†and the description texts should be smaller in size, right now it looks like you're trying to fill up space and that's not good.

Whoa! That rocks. What is it for? A Cellphone? Anyway, like I said, it's looking very good so far, but I wonder if is as clean as you wanted it to be, you're using 10 “colors†when you could be using only four.

Not bad, I like the tile distribution, just try to make the transition between grass and beach a little more gradual. In the character select screen try to center things better on the screen and use a normal font for the names.

Kudos for making your own graphics. That looks fantastic! However, I think maybe you should brighten up the darker trees in order to differentiate them better from the grass and so they clash less with the clearer ones.

Good call. I would recommend not just making them a little brighter, but shifting them towards blue to give a nice contrast. Quick edit to show what I mean:

Looks great. Contrasting your greens with more blue (and also yellow, like you did with the light-green trees) makes it more interesting.
I think maybe you should find a replacement for the flowers since they don't seem to go with the theme. It's like the landscape is all dark and unsaturated which implies a more serious game but the flowers make me think of earthbound which makes it confusing.
I think you should vary the edges of the path tile more. The sides are so nicely varied, but the corners are so perfectly round. It isn't suited properly.
I liked the dark green trees better than the lighter teal colored ones. They looked like a much more natural color before. Plus the brightness stands out really starkly against everything else, which isn't good because trees should fade into the background.
