YAY!!! It's Independence Day, for all our beloved brothers friends from the Untied States Of Boring America, which is pretty much the overwhelming MAJORITY of you. Since I'm not from that country who smells like Uncle Al after he's hit the downstairs kegger, I still like to acknowledge another fine holiday where all of us Canadians must go back to work and sulk after another Sunday party going up in smoke while the Americans get a free day off! Woot!!!

Go blow up some fireworks, for your good ol' pal, S4D. ^^

Happy Independence Day!!!

It's a celebration of America liberating the world from aliens... or something... I'm pretty sure Will Smith has something to do with it.
So...does that mean we're going to have another Men In Black movie? :D
I don't get a free day off. I work later on today. Thank goodness for time and a half.

And Will Smith FTW!

Do they have a 4th of July in England?

I'm the Dawg, so that's what you call me. Or maybe His Dawgness, or Dawger, or El Dawgerino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Funny. I know the man who worked on that famous scene where the white house explodes. Lawrence Littleton.

I think it would be pretty difficult for us to liberate ourselves from ourselves. Maybe, instead of an independence day, we could have a "day we created country x" day just to remind people. Or, more accurately, a "day we slaughtered tonnes of natives because we had cool ships/muskets/red jackets day"

... depending on the country, of course.

America, Australia, Canada etc. have a lot to be thankful for. All that killing was obviously hard work. I mean, do you think those coats were red when we started?

Can we hold off on the vitriolic, armchair moral preaching from the former British Empire for one day? Come on, it's our birthday. Give us the gift of your silence. :)

Seriously, though... what do Native Americans do on Independence Day? It must be pretty shitty for them (I assume?)

EDIT: Erm. Happy birthday?

LATE-EDIT: I wouldn't try and hold a moral high-ground or preach or whatever. The British Empire did some pretty shitty things and they're not outweighed by the better things it did.

I have no idea, F-G. They're US citizens too so, shrug. Never really been exposed to navtive American societies outside of casinos.
Native Americans do the same thing they do every day. Get drunk, beat up their wife/girlfriend and cry about hundred year old persecution. I'd be surprised if they were even aware that we've entered July (oh wait, welfare cheques probably keep them up to date).
I can say this because I'm part native american. Kind of like how only blacks can say 'nigga'.

Happy Independance Day, South-of-the-Border Friends. So when're you gonna give your corrupt Federal government the heave-ho?
Wikipedia (and my history lessons):

"Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence (freedom) from the Kingdom of Great Britain."

Thus, S4D,we celebrate freedom... In answer to your previous question.

In my opinion, we celebrate freedom by eating more meat than we should, consume more alcohol than we ever really should, blow up firecrackers and neighbors' houses when we shouldn't, and have more fun than on any other day of the year.

So, yeah, we have an all around great time basically! XD

After living on the White Earth Nation reservation for approximately one year I can confirm that particular tribe celebrates it by drinking a ton of beer and playing with illegal fireworks. Way to sock it to the man.

Wait, you really didn't know why we call it Independence Day? Nice.

Shit, I coulda told you all about Canada's Independence process when my voice was still crackling from puberty, and the US even has a quasi-celebration of Mexico's quasi-Independence day on the 5th of May.

So much for insular dumbass Americans huh ;P
