Persona 2: Eternal Punishment! Gotta love that nonsensical contact system. I love when Maya interviews the demons a voice over shouts "DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO YOUR FAAANS?"
Close but no cigar! :P That's just what the game is well known for (10-20% of the game is staring at that damn screen)

It was Beyond Shadowgate. Haven't played it myself but I hear it's even more atmospheric than Silent Hill 2.

That's interesting, every Shadowgate game I've seen was first person. I had no idea they made one like that.
