CRITICISM, YOUR AUDIENCE, AND PUTTING YOUR FOOT DOWN; THE CONCEPT OF SAYING "THAT'S TOO GOD DAMN BAD."

If you have several people in a row telling you that your battle mechanics are unbalanced...it might be time to take a look at them.
That doesn't always happen! If someone is so full of themselves they will think "you're all just ganging up on me!". Peeps who want to improve and are in a place to see something is wrong will see that more than one person mentioning a problem as a way to validate that there is a problem. But some people have the idea that if more and more people talk about said problem as a problem, that those people are ganging up on them!
I think in terms of the topic at large is that people who create need to know what they want to do with what they are creating. And once the person learns that, they should also learn how much they want to sacrifice their growth (might be a wrong term) for what they want to do with a game. They should also be willing to be malleable enough to be able to tweak things so that even if a feature they are using isn't received well, they should be able to look at it from afar to determine how to make it received well (which all depends on the audience that they want--their audience here is different than their audience elsewhere). If it really can't be, then I think it's okay to put your foot down and say "that's too god damn bad". But you also should make sure if the feature is really needed if it's not received well because if you do put your foot down, you do turn away potential players. But if that's a blow you want to take, then that's what the designer chooses and I think that's okay. Just act like an adult about it and all that.

Use VX.
I really don't care for VX. It may be easier to assemble the taco, but being limited to only five ingredients at a time is really hampering the creative taco-building process. Sure, in 2k3 getting the lettuce, tomato bits, cheese, meat and shell in the right order might seem a little old-fashioned, but it's worked for years and I'm used to it. I make all my best tacos in 2k3.

Actually, I DID want to make a taco.
Canadian taco. Does this different greatly from the Tex Mex tacos I grew up on in Dallas?
Canadian tacos supposedly come with french fries, because I guess to Canadians all the countries south of them just kind of blend together and are indistinguishable.
Here in AMERICA we have real tex-mex food, like chili cheese burritos and bacon ranch chalupas.

How plausible is it to make these in 2k3?
You're the tech guru. I differ to your rm culinary expertise.

The "you posted your game on the internet, everything we say is fair game" is not a good attitude.
As a matter of fact, that was my very first experience on the forums. I was quickly told by several people it used to be much worse.
I agree that people shouldn't be afraid to make their work available for fear of being 'roasted'. Criticism is very valuable, and most of the people here give solid criticism that is designed to improve a project. However, there are always some who just don't appreciate the amount of work a person put into a game, calling their work 'garbage' or even 'insulting'.
The fact is, the critics didn't spend hundreds of hours making a game. For that reason, even a bad game should still command a certain level of respect; the developer tried something and it didn't work, but the important thing is that he experimented and will only be a better developer for the experience. The job of a critic, while important, is much, much less difficult, and every critic should show the deveopers the respect they deserve.
Lucidstillness: full agree.
Things I have learned:
* That we as a community have issues with giving criticism.
* That we as a community have issues with taking criticism.
* This can be fixed by ???
* ???
* Profit.

Fuck criticism. I want critique! Criticism is just telling you what you did wrong. Critiques let you know when you've done something right too. That's just as important to know.
Just saying. All this talk of criticism makes me grumpy. We should aspire to more than that! If more critiques were given there'd be less grumbling. Honey and stick, my friends. Honey and stick.
Beat 'em with a stick, give them honey.
On the flip side, sometimes you just need to learn to look beyond the language to see the ideas presented. Even then, you should think about whether to change your game or not. If more than three people have pointed out something as an error, it's time to look at it closely and see if you can't A) explain it more thoroughly, B) change it completely or C) adjust it to meet both standards.
And then there are the times you just have to put your foot down and say "This is what this is!"

The problems is when they gulp down the honey and curse you for the stick... Ungrateful little bees. xP
Also what's so good about tacos? Try eating them on a normal basis and you'd kill for a Hamburger. D:

In French it's : the carrot and the stick, implying donkeys, just to say if that'ss the way you view the developers you offer your feedback too, Im afraid it's not going to go too well...
