ArcoMage is a card game that was made as a mini-game for Might and Magic 7, and saw a recurrence in Might and Magic 8. It even saw a commercial release of it's own!

There wasn't really a "story" to the game until the commercial release, but, suffice it to say, you are one of two rulers/wizards/whatever vying for control. There are three ways to win the game. They are:

  • Getting your Tower (life total) to be, or exceed, a certain amount

  • Getting your opponent's Tower to be at, or go below, 0

  • Accumulate a certain number of resources of a single type

Specifics of how to play are included in-game, and will also be included here.

Cracking down on that AI

Finally got around to cracking down on programming the AI. I'm not 100% sure what exactly will happen if the AI plays a card that requires discarding, or a card that prompts to "play again". I also don't quite know how to switch the context of the Action button from "Select/use this card in the human player's hand" to "Cease display of the AI card, and continue with the game".

For what it is worth, I have seemed to manage to have the AI's card displayed on-screen for a half-minute before play continues. Saying that, I don't feel particularly confident about this game. I feel testers could help me weed out some bugs. Though, I know I've had a bad tendency in the past to act on my own before people can even respond to such requests.

Be that as it may, I'll be uploading a demo sometime in the next few days. I'll try recruiting said testers on the Discord channel, but, failing that, I may refer to this thread and quite possibly still fail.

This looks like my kind of Marrend game! I definitely will be trying this out later this year.

Small update. The short version is that there was a bug involving using the escape button to discard cards which I believe has been rectified. The in-game help-file has been updated, and I put in a little loop for the Show Choice command.

I still have no idea what possessed me to make this. I'm a little impressed by the fact that it took me two weeks, though. I thought/figured it would be a lot longer!
