Features

100% Custom Interface: Players command the party using a targetting dial that identifies important features of a room and the ways to interact with them.

Randomly-generated Game World - The layout of areas and the locations of key items are determined randomly at the beginning of each new game.

Customizable Characters: Spend experience points to improve your character using an intuitive, user-directed training interface.

Original Graphics: Original characters, creatures, items and splash art.

A Chilling Sci-fi Horror Setting - A setting and storyline influenced by sources as diverse as System Shock 2, Freelancer, Dead Space, John Carpenter's The Thing, and Dante's Inferno.

Story

According to one theory, Earth's moon was formed by collision with another planetoid early in our solar system's history. This theoretical planetoid is known as Theia, the mother of Selene (the moon) in early Hellene mythology.

The theory states that Theia would have been completely consumed in the collision, its mass integrated with Earth's.

Why, then, in the outer reaches of the Oort cloud, where astronomers expect to find only comets and isolated bodies of ice, has a planet been found whose composition exactly compliments planet Theia of the Giant Impact theory? Almost a light-year away from the Sun, it hangs on by a mere slip of a gravitational tether, and would certainly have been long lost to the system were its orbit not almost immeasurably slow.

Wherever it came from, it was the last beacon of hope for White Horse Enterprises, a sluggish corporation whose dewy-eyed business ethics made it uncompetitive in the corrupt, overpopulated world of 2072. They established a mining facility on Planet Theia as a showcase for their progressive, philanthropic business practices. In the words of White Horse's CEO: "This venture will go forward, and it will establish a precedent that only an act of God can supersede."

The venture seemed doomed for bankruptcy until a survey drone uncovered what appeared to be an alien artifact, deep under the planet's surface. Desperately needing to capitalize on the discovery, the admins have planned an investor's gala in the P. Lowell Executive Chalet, a small luxury resort with a stunning view of the mining installation, where the artifact will be unveiled to the public.

... And now, for some reason, you've just woken up on the floor of your sleep quarters. You have no recollection of the last week, and your co-workers have turned into monsters. Your only guidance is a droning automated announcement system and the clues your colleagues left behind before losing their minds.

Welcome to Planet Theia. It's always dark out.

My god we're going back for this one

Two days ago I finally started using Rogaine, even though I'm about 15 years too late for it to make a difference!

Well we all know how it goes, I still want to shake the usual farts out of the bedsheets and say that sOmEdAy ThIs PrOjEcT wIlL bE dOnE i PrOmIsE but it looks to be something that I'll have to be toying with on and off for years and maybe finish it when I'm 50. Because I was visited by that terrible spectre of Another Idea For A Game That Seems Like It Will Be Less Work And More Likely To Pay Off Than The Current Idea (AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI). I've actually been working on the AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI for the last year. I don't want to be an idiot who strings along projects for years and then never finishes anything because of yet another AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI, with the old tune of i'Ll GeT bAcK tO tHiS pRoJeCt OnCe ThE nEw OtHeR iDeA iS dOnE. Every time I do this I lose more and more confidence in myself. But the AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI can be very seductive.

The latest AIFAGTSLIWBLWAMLTPOTTCI is a furry-themed building management sim made in Game Maker, and the building that you're managing is a public bathroom. You place facilities like toilets and sinks and make money by selling different types of septic effluent. It leans heavily on the vulgar subject matter, because furries like that sort of thing. But it's not really an RPG so I don't want to make a project page here. Does anyone know of another website where I might make a project page for that sort of game?

Where are some of the other graphics from? The soldering laser looks familiar, but not necessarily from SS2.

Why, every other sprite in the game was drawn be me! D:

I can make the next release non-encrypted so you can plunder it, although I feel encrypting makes the installation a bit neater and it also makes me seem more elite and mysterious.

YOU KNOW WHY DELTREE IS GREAT? HE GAVE ME HIS SCI-FI TILESETS JUST BECAUSE I ASKED.

Still playing this and loving it, btw. I even made my girlfriend play it. I have noticed a few more bugs, but nothing fatal.
Girlfriend? What are you doing here?
And I am interested in all bugs no matter how severe.
i love this game so much. such an intense atmosphere, awwyea! :D good job man.

i also like the "puzzles", to split up the group, for example.

but i'm pretty much stuck in the one to get this guy out of the cryo. i just don't get the code from him, maybe im too dumb (wouldn't be a surprise, lol) but all those "right digit " and "right place" -things...awrrrgh.
anyone got a tip for me ? :3

Thank you. :)

Well, first just do rows of five of the same digit, 00000, 11111 etc to determine what the 5 digits are, then you can use a digit that isn't included to systematically work out where each digit is placed, like 50000, 05000, 00500 etc (if you're trying to work out where the 5 should go).
Gibsmaker pretty much has the ideal formula there. I lucked out and got a password with almost all 4's. Hopefully you do the same.

this game is so good. so good.

But um...I finally shelled out for a second point of Aptitude for Derichard. So he should have 2 AP right? And I see two x's and everything. But whenever I have him attack either with the wrench or the cryo-amp it seems to COST 2 AP now...so what was the point of getting a second AP?

I ASSUME this is a bug, but then again I assumed the Mental Points Affecting Tech Success Rate thing was a bug at first too, and that was actually a central feature, so I don't know.
That sounds like a bug to me, every extra "X" I have in the game is actually an extra move in itself, no matter what action I take.

Perhaps, send me your save game? Although I don't have Internet at home right now so all such correspondence will be slow.

Ok, I will.

Some additional details, though. Only an attack action uses all of Derichard's AP. When I take support actions (Psychogenic Whatever, etcetera) first I still get a second AP as normal.

Also I found another REALLY minor bug. In the Atrium Replicator when you hack it two of the items on the item list are Standard Bullets x 12: 20 Nanites.
ftr, I had seemingly random and sporadic cases of this happening also (or maybe I wasn't noticing it happen sometimes), when certain actions would seem to take more than one aptitude point.
I think this is actually deliberate. Some actions take multiple X's, but you can still perform those actions with only one X. Example: using a med hypo takes one X. Firing a handgun takes two X's. If you have three X's, you can do the following combinations of actions:

-shoot, shoot

-hypo, hypo, shoot

-shoot, hypo

-hypo, shoot

I just got decompressed because I spent one or two turns too much time mucking about in Admin looting containers and then when I ran into the barricade, no one had a wrench. I was sad that it happened...and sadder that I didn't get to see my little sprites gorily implode. : ) : (

This is a TOTALLY frivolous request but plz add implosion. Changing screen tone and then fading to black doesn't cut it for a "decompression event". Explosive decompression is fucking scary, and for such an awesomely scary and atmospheric game, Set Discrepancy is oddly bloodless. (Obviously like anyone who's not a cretin I prefer psychological fear to icky gore squick, but that doesn't mean horror should have absolutely no blood. Also explosive decompression is freaking cool. SPLEURCH!)
@kumada

It doesn't work that way, bud. Or rather... it doesn't/didn't work that way on any of my plays through SD. On any version. Multiple APs always allowed multiple actions, including shooting/attacking, so if Derichard has 4 Xs... he can shoot 4 times.
Yeah I regularly clear out rooms with my MC using the shotty or pistol 4 times in a row, and I certainly don't have 8 aptitude points.

Edit: Punishing the player for bothering to get more aptitude points by charging them more when they have more would be the worst thing ever.

I have no idea how this works, then. I'm pretty sure my pistol task actions take 2 X's when I have only 2 X's, so I'd assumed that was how many points a pistol task action always took. Maybe they take less when you have more?

Something, for sure, is wonky. I only have one character with more than one AP so I don't have the most data right now.

How many parts are there, by the way? I've just started Part 3. I'm terrified to run out of gameplay, this game's pretty addictive.

Ok I think I know what it is, when enemies die they run a small extra "task" that is supposed to be set to not spend an action point but it might be doing it anyway. Does it happen whence enemies die? And yes there will be tasks that cost more than one action point but just shooting the gun isn't one of them.

Actually some scientists disagree and assert that human flesh is in fact quite resilient and instead of blowing up like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall (most unnecessary remake ever???) you would just instantly freeze. And also I would have to animate this for all 12 player charsets. :( Spleurch. Besides, there's on-screen death-by-decompression later in the programme anyway. :3

However, since some people seem quite compelled to try and search all the desks in that section there will probably have to be some prizes hidden there to avoid Empty Room Psyche.

I believe there will be 11 parts.
This site had better still be here when I'm 100 because that's how long it will take. :(
BTW the section in Hydroponics is quite short so I was going to amalgamate it in a chapter with the next part, but so far there has been a chapter break each time you change modules which seems natural. So Chapter 5 might be ready in a couple weeks, although it's quite short and not much happens in it.

Okay hacking laser turrets is fucking awesome because those things are delightfully OP, which is much more fun when they're doing their damage to hapless creatures that wonder into your zone of control.

This game does an amazing job of making every attribute and skill and talent feel fun and important. I still wish more things gave you EXP besides killing stuff.

Out of curiosity, why is there an option to make the shotgun more accurate, but not the pistol?

Does it happen whence enemies die? And yes there will be tasks that cost more than one action point but just shooting the gun isn't one of them.

I think so, yes but not having programmed the game it's hard to tell. I'm pretty sure it's happening even when the attack doesn't kill the enemy, though...I'll double check next time I'm playing.

I can confirm it is happening with both my main PC and with Derichard. It's not as annoying with Derichard, because I can just have him buff, hit or buff, buff, rather than hitting first and then buffing but with my main PC, he doesn't have much to do but attack so it's pretty annoying that attacking with the pistol or the shotgun eats all his AP (his 'x'es so to speak). The cryo amp, wrench, pistol, and shotgun all seem to have this bug so far.

I thought the whole point of the section was "when your environment is about to decompress, do not dither with item-gathering." Adding (randomly placed) special items to the section means that completionists are going to have to do multiple runthroughs of it in order to locate them all, which is torturous.
