*****************UPDATE**********************
It was a fun little passtime about 4-5 years ago making this game, it says close to 32,000 people have seen this profile and 6 people have subscribed, and I know for sure from emails that at least three people (one of them being a Jamaican woman) played this mess and 66.6667% of them enjoyed it. It seems one person voted Lol3 for best story and direction in the 2009 awards too, which is cool (who are you!? let me know). I was going to try and do another one that was much much smaller and more story focused which was gonna be about the late Carl Sagan blistering around the universe and getting into all sorts of hyjinx but I'm done with this...it takes too long.

*******************HOT UPDATE****************

New download link (trimmed down to 300mb) available here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J509KPGJ

(the version with Vincent Price and Liberace's sidequests which add roughly 5-6 hours of gameplay will be out in the next few months).

New screenshots added.

**************END OF HOT UPDATE***********

Dickie is a farmtown kid who lives carefree without a care in the world. One day he discovers a treasure, yet it is robbed in the night from him by vagrant gypsies. Dickie's quest to regain his treasure quickly turns into something heavier as the fate of human civilization rests upon his young shoulders. (Note: Some swearing and some scantily clad female enemies (no nudity)....other than that it's fun for all ages.)

For it must be a beginning of another funktastic story! Please let us journey deep into the mystical caves of the Liberace...A good luck awaits you most surely!

Peter Ivers of "Slap yer Ginkels Press" called The Legend of Liberace..."This piece is an attempt to slap the ginkels into awareness and out of the radium void, and hopefully have them land in humanity central. The Legend of Liberace makes noise and it IS. Remember, it's raison d'etre is only what it is saying to you, and hopefully it's not telling you to DIE through some kind of banarthic subtle undertone. Yet then again Death must only be tomorrow's beginning so what's the harm in waking up and dyin' for a change? I give this video game 1.6 ginkel slaps out of a possible 4."

More LOL3 Press, from the blog "I Heart Chaos" write-up:

"Just from the screenshots there seems to be so much wrong with this game that I'm afraid it'll give me brain AIDS if I play it and try too hard to figure it out..."

Will the Legend give your brain aids? I doubt it, but you never know for sure.

Short Walkthrough in one of the blog entries...

The download is big cause I used the full RTP in case you don't have it and i have a lot of mp3s in the game for the soundtrack. Think of it as basically downloading a bunch of cool mp3s of good bands while you are waiting for the game to download....add them to your playlist from the audio folder afterwards too if you want. At the end of 2010, a totally 1000% finished version of the game is going to be uploaded and the MBs will be cut down to ~250 (roughly half of what it is now).

There's still some spelling errors so I'll upload it again when it's 100% error free...if anyone actually plays this feel free to tell me any errors you encountered.

Some Secrets

Some secrets:

-Liberace has two dreams. The first one is seen quite easily by wondering what he's thinking about when you talk to him on your farm (when he's out of your active party). The second one is seen by completing the first one then sleeping on the right bed of your house with Liberace in your party. You should do these with a strong Liberace because once your in his dreams the only way out is to beat the boss at the end. You get some very rare healing items and also some good EXP for Liberace if you choose the right option at the end of the first dream. Most enemies can be put to sleep and silenced with Eternal Sadness (the skill you learn from the piano in the inn back in town).

-Best weapon for Gertride Hazuki: Get the Flamamantium in the fire cave, the marbrush weed in the water cave, and the beet's teeth in the earth cave. Bring these three items to the miner's house and the Master Blacksmith will be there now and will craft for you her best weapon.

-Best Weapon for Bertha Obando: Fight her sensei at Mount Wutai and when you win decline his offer THREE times to receive her best weapon.

-Best Weapon and Armor for Dickie: If you ever notice someone who looks like Joey Ramone bring Dickie to speak with him...answer the correct questions to receive his best weapon and armor.

-To gain Felix Grundy some EXP and to turn out the hidden zombie town you have to do a real tedious walking around quest...and it's worth it...I guess. Figure it out. It's mainly for 100% completion I guess, it's not worth doing the quest. Grundy's poison was used to be super effective (too much so) but I switched the damage % in the game's script and made poison less effective. Grundy is sadly the worst character in the game now.

-To learn new techs with Liberace play the pianos you find around the world. There's one in the Inn, one in Ox King's drinkin' cave, and one on the cottage on the moon.

-It's not really clear how to use Ox King effectively for the brief time you get to use him. On the first turn of combat use "Get Drunk" and then use his regular attack while drunk.....his magic and skills moves are useless so don't bother with them....just get drunk and use regular attacks. He hits for over 9000 while drunk and does ~15,000 if he criticals.

-Getting the Wukong armor and accessory. You must lose to him on the mountain in the snow area, then go all the way back to the bar in town and knock the bathroom door...then let the story ensue and defeat him with the guy from the bathroom. Now go back up the snow mountain with Dickie and Wukong will let you in his cave of Flowers and Fruits.

-Once the Gypsy is on your farm you can recruit a spoony bard who hangs around the desert Oasis. Once together they play pop music concerts on your farm which is kind of fun. I suppose.

-If you don't win in 7 turns while fighting the Pure Anabolic Steroids you'll get a cut scence and still win.

-Improving Horace. Horace is useful at the start when fighting the wrestlers in the pub, but gets sucky fast. You can raise his attack and defense by talking to a lizard in the forest later on in the game. Horace is still not as good as the human characters though.

-Liberace and Vincent can get close to Level 40 each while fighting the Ultimate Warrior fights. Just make them defend and not die and they will gain a lot of EXP from the fights. If they do die you could always reload and try again.

A few things...

1. 500+ MB of unfitting MP3s = no way in hell are people going to give this game the time of day.
2. Ghostbusters? You've got to be kidding me.
3. Novelty Pen: "When turned upside down a naked lady appears!"

I know this is supposed to be some sort of childish-humor comedy game, but I have yet to see anything that's encouraged me to progress yet.
Answers:

1. Yeah you're right. It's a free game and no one's holding a gun to anyone's head to download it so that's a mute point. If you think it's too big or doesn't interest you then all you have to do is not play it basically.

2. Ghostbusters are awesome. Though I don't think they ever show up at any point of the game. Do you mean you're angry cause there's no Ghostbusters? I can add some if you want.

3. Those pens are cool...my friend used to have one.

4. Then delete it I guess.
Oh wait I know where the Ghostbusters thing comes from. In the audio folder is a an mp3 of a heavy metal ghostbusters theme song cover by a band called xentrix. It is a battle themed used when you fight one of the 13 ghosts that Vincent wants to seal.

I had originally planned for Vincent to enlist Winston Zeddemore in a side quest to seal the second to last ghost but never got around to it. In fact that sidequest isn't in fact done (currently only 5 ghosts are available to seal), i put two more on a haunted train but never put the option up at the train station for some reason (forgot). As for the last 6 of the 13...heck there's plenty of room to involve the Ghostbusters in Vincent's sidequest still...when I flesh out some detail they'll probably make their way in. Thanks for reminding me about that.
For the love of...you've got about 200 MB of WAV files in here!!

You really should compress the largest wav's to mp3's. Like the wav that's 50 MB. And the wav that's 40 MB. And the wav's that are 20 MB...

And even some of the mp3's are ridiculously long--a Miles Davis blues song that's 27 minutes long?! WTF?!
Another one that's 18 minutes long?...No, I'm sorry, but although your game, judging by the screenshots, doesn't look half bad, still, nobody (other than me apparently) is going to download a 500 MB comedy game.

So, first use this to encode all the large wav's to mp3's:
http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php

Then use this to cut the length of the mp3's :
http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

Start with the blues song--cut it down to about 2-3 minutes or so.
Then for the mp3's of the long FF Black Mage's songs, cut them where the music starts to loop.

Alternatively, you can cut the mp3's to the duration the song is set to play in your game. In other words, if the song will only play for a minute in your game, then you only need a minute-long mp3 of that song

Do all this and you'll cut your game's size in half, maybe even more.
And although 200 - 250 MB is still large, it's far more tolerable for an RPG Maker game.
I might one day release a finished version of the game, where everything's closed up and refined and surely the MBs will be hacked and slashed down to a sane amount.

....but....

I dunno, me and my friend made this to make each other laugh and then put it on the net more as a joke than anything. I know of some people who have downloaded it and actually played it which is cool and makes me feel like I've shared something with the humans of the world, but it still remains more of a tongue in cheek joke then anything serious.

I have downloaded both programs and if I ever do make this into a finished product I will surely use them to cut down some MBs, thanks Mr. Segnin.
Found a nasty bug.

After getting the 3 materials for the "kick-ass" sword and giving them to Jeb to make Slicearilla, after Jeb finished crafting it, my character couldn't move. The game didn't freeze, he just wouldn't move.

I did find a workaround for it.

If you stand behind Jeb BEFORE giving him the 3 materials (even though the game warns you NOT to do that), the game will seem to freeze for a moment, but after a few seconds you'll get the sound and visual effects of the sword being crafted. Then Jeb will force your character over one space which will get you unstuck. And you'll still get the Slicearilla.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not sure if this is relevant, but I had Dickie, Liberace, Vincent and Prescilla in my party, and I'd already gotten the Horse, but hadn't recruited any of the other ladies yet. And I hadn't talked to the ninjas or done any of their missions yet. I had already talked to both Love Docs though.
And yes, I chose Billy Blue Beard over the other boatman earlier in the game.
Hmmm....I think when I tested it I did that part after doing the other two chores you can do for the miner. You can find his ultra-fast baby in the forest and return it to him and also deliver some goats for him. It probably has to do with not testing each part of that, it might be an error in some page of that (i.e. give him the materials while one of those other chores are in progress or something). I'll look at it.
I'm happy people are playing it, I'm going to re-test it, finish Vincent's side-quest, and add a cool Liberace desert mercenary side-quest, and of course use the programs you suggested to get it down to 200mb. I'm gonna start working on it again in 2010, the 100% polished-off Legend of Liberace III will probably be done in the next few months (when work and stuff calms down).
I've already done both of those chores too (would've mentioned it, but didn't think it mattered:
1) Caught and returned the baby.
2) Transported and brought him his goats.
Here's my save file, so you can see what I've already done/haven't done yet:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?znnrdnmnqko
I looked at it, and I just have too many WAITS I think. I thought you had to use WAIT command to let the movement of the event happen so I think he does his sword smithing business and then when he's done a 200 frame wait happens (cause I thought he had to put a wait in so you can't progress while he does his movement). So yeah, the game's not frozen it's just waiting for a bit...maybe even 30 to 1 min. or so. I think I just have to delete the WAIT command and it'll be good.
I've already moved past that part and no longer have a save file that old.
So, I can't check and see if that's the problem, that there's too many WAITS and that the character is only temporarily frozen.
But since you say you're going to go back and polish your game, I do have one serious criticism:
You have far too many "if you save your game after making the wrong choice and don't have an older backup save, then you'll have to start over from the beginning as you're now hopelessly screwed because there's no way to turn back Ha Ha Ha sucks to be you" events and areas in your game.
Here's a list of all these types of events/areas in your game that I've found so far, that are IMO game breakers or are just really unfair.
1) Recruiting Liberace (although this happens right at the beginning, so starting over at that point isn't too annoying, but only if you realize your mistake BEFORE continuing)
2) Killing the talking goat instead of taking the money. (Ditto. This one also ties in with the third one)
3) Choose the correct boatman. (Not everyone will read your walkthrough)
4) Liberace's dream quest (This one can be a real killer)
5) The ghost that's part of Vincent's side quest, in the castle that you can't leave, and once you can, it's destroyed. (You have to get lucky, keeping Vincent in your party BEFORE entering the castle. Otherwise, you can't seal the ghost because you need him for that. And you can't go back home to add him to your party because you can't leave the castle. AND THERE"S NO WAY TO KNOW ALL THAT IN ADVANCE.)
I'm sure you've got more of these later in the game; I'm currently just starting the desert mission for the ninjas, so I guess I'm about 1/3 of the way through the game.
And I've already had to start over from the beginning once--I chose the wrong boatman. >_<
Now, I'm checking your walkthrough as I go through the game, just to be safe.
Some answers...
1) I like the fact the game is named after a character you can totally miss and not have the entire game by simply saying the wrong thing to him at the start.
2) Even if you use the jabroni boatman, Blue Beard will appear at the docks north of town to take you around after anyway. I always wanted to remove the other boatman but forgot, originally you can take an herb from the great forest and revive him but that path was never finished.
3) Like "2" your not screwed if you take the other cheap boatman but his story is never resolved and Blue Beard just takes over for him.
4) Yeah, there's 4-6 points of NO RETURN (totally evil) parts in the game. Both Liberace dreams, the ninja quests, and then when you blast off to outer space. When I make this into a more user-friendly game next year I'm gonna put return points for ALL of these locations so there is no PONR garbage.
5) This ghost appears in a square in the crossroads map if you miss him in the castle cellar. A lady will tell you a ghost is around here and you click around till you find him. Since he's the ghost of loneliness or solitude or something he likes to hide.
Some responses:
1) I had a feeling you'd say that. LOL (that's just mean, y'know) ^___^
2) In your walkthrough & FAQ, you warned not to use the other guy because there could be a problem later in the game. I naturally assumed that meant that you'd get stuck later in the game if you chose the other guy, especially since...
3) On my first game, I chose the other guy, found the Herb in the forest, gave it to him, and instead of curing him, it killed him. So, thinking this was the reason for the warning not to choose him, I started a new game, and this time chose Billy.
4) At least I got this one right. ^_^;;
5) The thought that the ghost might still appear later, did cross my mind. But given your seeming fondness for setting evil PONR traps throughout your game, I just figured that ghost was probably another PONR.
I thought of something else...
If you don't have Vincent in your party when you beat certain bosses, then he won't learn their summons, will he? If that's true, then that's another PONR of sorts. Well, you need him for the ghosts too, so I guess I'll just never take him out of the party.
The regular enemies are also, so far, way too weak. Most of them can't even damage my guys at all.
And although I was rewarded with a pair of Ninja Bracers for completing that one quest, they never were added to my inventory. I checked the game in the editor--seems you forgot to put them in the Armor database.
Vincent was supposed to have about 4 cool summons but only 2 were actually used. The Elvis summon is MISSABLE if Vincent is not in your party when you go look for the goose egg, while the Shatner summon will be added to his skillset at a certain time (as long as you recruited Vincent in the cave that is) and is not missable. To be honest, Vincent Price is the baddest man and should really never leave your party unless it's story related and he is unavailable.
Normal enemy random encounters only appear in the first two dungeon-esque maps and are scrapped later on. All fights in the game are story related as you progress, secret bosses, or visible on the map baddies.
where is the download??? =P
There's two links to Mega Upload in the main profile. The first one is the game and the second one is a replacement for the Data folder which fixes some gamebreaking crashes. The game has a lot of mp3 files and is a pretty big download.
A completed and refined (500MB to ~250MB) version of LOL3 will be coming later this year if you want to wait for that.
Can you send me that Vincent Price battler graphic? Please? :<
I sent you it my brother. Are you planning on making Super Vincent Price RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars?
Thanks! and, maybe...
