It's nothing serious, no sweeping epic storyline or massive collect millions of unlocks, rather a game that focuses on game play much like older games such as Dragon Quest 3, all the while throwing in some sharp (and sometimes painfully dull) wit. Even though there's no epic tale, expect a game that's fun to play, complete with optional bosses, plenty of minigames, fun systems, and humor!

Fun facts!

Along with the usual finished x amount of areas, fleshed out y more of the database, with this update I bring some fun facts:

- The minigames present in this game if played casually inflate play time by about 20%!
- I have spent 4+ hours eventing/coding a gimmick that lasts a whole 20 seconds in game. (I'm sure many of you sympathize with this one.)
- I have spent over ten minutes looking for an event command in the list that I've used previously and for whatever reason, kept glancing over the section that it was sitting in staring at my from and waving, not seeing it and wondering why. (Embarrassing, right?)
- Many minutes of work time have been lost by sitting in the database playing animations, songs or sounds and going, "Whoa, neat."
- I have spent less time creating a balanced boss encounter with events than I have creating a SINGLE conversation with a story NPC!
- The blackjack minigame had a bug that had a less than 1% chance of occurring (based on variables) that when found, turned out to be an idiotic oversight that took 2 1/2 hours straight of changing a single variable in many many conditional branches.
- The erase event command does not erase an event permanently! Only until you next visit that map... something I wish I knew in my infant RM* days.
- The very first "game" I ever made which lasted a whole 30 minutes was made with RM95 which saw the hero of the game betrayed by someone he had only met 10 minutes earlier and being completely distraught over it. It also had treasures that you could open repeatedly, three whole maps, and Final Fantasy music. Awesome.

I'm sure some of you can relate to at least one of these things!

All of that aside, after shaking off a bad case of death I had, I'm back on track. Currently working on an optional small dungeon for the thief. It's coming along nicely.

Back to work!

I love oldskool games, good luck with it!
This seems pretty good.

Just change the font.

Wow, theres like 80 million 'let's poke fun at the past' games out there.

I am unimpressed beyond the limit.
The idea kinda sounds like Jay's Journey. Maybe this will be better though.
I agree with Lennon. People instead should make games that make fun of these sort of games.

Don't get me wrong, it's not going to be a complete fallacy 100% of the time, but it does poke fun where I feel it needs to as the game isn't particularly story heavy.
I like this game but it went bye-bye (as in it closed all by itself) on me after I tried to save which was after I beat the guard in that cave. So maybe you might want to look into what's up with that?

You should probably warn people that your game is hard though. I've been babied in so many games now, I've totally forgotten how to play properly. I died something like 10 times just because a bunch of slimes beat me up. Then I actually started using skillz and it all worked out.

I just want to mention that the innkeeper is a money-hungry bitch.

Thanks for the feedback meh_ch.

I can't seem to duplicate the problem you're having with the save point there. What exactly happened when it disappeared?

I'm starting to receive a lot of feedback regarding the difficulty. It seems you are right in that people are just too used to games where they sit and hold enter in order to get through battles. Personally, I think battle like that are boring as all hell. I think because of this I'm going to pull a FFIV and have two versions, the first being the level of difficulty that I think is best and just have that as normal mode, in addition to an easy type. Maybe I'll subtitle it Carebear mode or something.

Haha, she totally is. I have the inn prices scaling with level because of the warp ring (for obvious reasons). I think I will cut back a little on the price though, it does make her seem like a gold digger.
I think the people above (lennon, aznchipmunk) definitely got the wrong impression about this game.

It's definitely a good play, and after the demo I'm looking forward to the full release.

Keep up the good work!
When will this be finished?

When it's done!

Oh wait, that never worked for 3D Realms, did it? Estimated progress is about 25% completed. I hope to have a completely finished product (25 hours of gameplay roughly, hopefully more) before the end of the year.
i played your demo awhile ago and it was hard but i liked it. i read your blog site and the updates look good but i think you'll need an updated demo to keep people interested because its fun but needs balance and you say you've done balancing. i love dragon quest type games so i hope this turns out good.

Actually, this sounds like my kind of game! Don't listen to Azn or Lennon, they're just jealous.
xD
Downloading the game now (the second demo).
Played the first one and thought it was great... Hoping this one is just as good! =D

Kentona: Haha, I was ignoring them anyway. I heard they put out on the first date.

I'm unaware of the game of the same name.

No, it's not a joke game, but it's very far from taking itself seriously. It's an old school RPG type game (think Dragon Quest 3), just modernized (more puzzles/minigames).
