the hud is slick!
(but the contrast/brightness of the in-game is insufficient for these old eyes. I can't make out anything)

Yeah, I have to mess around with the values or the bloom ends up blinding people o-o
EDIT: And the JPEG made it darker... I just got back from testing the level and the lights well... light up the room...

I cant see shit and its really red
As I have said, the difference between this POS jpeg and the actual program are visible, however I am tweeking the lighting a bit to find a nice level of visibility but still keep what I'm trying to go for in the level.
Actually no, JPEG compresses with luminosity over chroma for the data loss. The game's just plain to dark, it needs to be at least twice as bright as it appears here.

o-o
Okie then.. Time to go fetch some new screenies after messing with lighting
Yeah, the luma response is stronger in our eyes than chroma, so when picking for the thing to go, color tends to lessen slightly in JPEG files.
Also, the lights look like they should be putting cold blue gray light into the scene instead of blindingly red light. You should also try picking an ambient color that's a good combination with the light to add a tone to it (the shadows being a particular color is an illusion that we see but isn't actually there).
And also avoid lights that use colors that are too primary, it ends up looking like someone lit the map with Christmas lights.
