New cover artwork

In preparation of the upcoming autumn release (and more exciting future plans I'm not quite ready to share yet) take a look at this brand new World's Dawn cover art! Special thanks goes out to Erangot, the artist behind this fantastic piece and all the character portraits in the game itself.

My hope is that this artwork will give potential players a good idea of the genre and overall feel of the game at a moment's glance. I absolutely love early Harvest Moon official art and wanted to do something similar to really give Sugar Blossom Village a better, more colorful sense of place.

Quick update on the autumn season: I'm confident enough to say the next chapter will be released by the end of this month! I'm still unsure of a specific date as of yet, but stay tuned for more on that front. Hopefully not too much longer... Thank you for being patient in the meantime, and continuing to support the project.

Please let me know what you think of the artwork! Does it capture the feel of a quiet, slow-paced farming sim?

Overdue update on the autumn season

Hello everyone! It's been a long time!

World's Dawn is still heavy in development -- I'm actually reworking several things that were causing some people a lot of lag in previous seasons. Optimizing is not the most fun job, and it's been tedious, but I'm planning on being able to release the autumn season with all these fixes included within the next month.

I missed my projected release window of 2014 (not a huge surprise, life always manages to get in the way...) but I just wanted to assure everyone that the project is still very much alive. After something like 5 years in development, it's crazy to think that the final, finished product is not far off.

In the meantime, please continue to share the game with whoever you think might enjoy it! There seems to be a big demand around the interwebs for Harvest Moon-inspired indies, and even with just the spring and summer seasons available currently, World's Dawn offers somewhere around 15 (free) hours of gameplay in that style.

To prove I'm still chugging along, here's a look at the autumn season:

If you're interested in following more regular updates on the project, the Facebook page is your best bet. There's also the brand new World's Dawn forum attached to the main site.

Thanks, all!

Summer season ready to play!

It's taken a little longer than I predicted to release, but I'm happy to say the full summer season is finally ready to play!

In this compact 83 MB download you'll find both the spring and summer seasons of the game. If you're new to World's Dawn or would like to start from the beginning, you can simply begin a new file and play continuously through both seasons. If you have save progress from the spring that you would like to carry over, copy all of the Entry files from inside the old Diary folder and into the new one. If you have any trouble with the transfer process, let me know!

Many hours of gameplay are available in this download (approximately 15+ on an average playthrough), and it's still not a finished product! The autumn and winter seasons are on the way, so expect updates on those in the coming months.

I would like to thank everyone for your support and your feedback, which has truly helped in pushing the development process along and creating a much more polished game. I've worked extremely hard on the project over many years, and any help you can offer in return is greatly appreciated. There's even a PayPal link on the project website if you feel like donating a few bucks towards development!

Thanks again, all! Enjoy the summer season and let me know what you think!

EDIT: If you downloaded the file on the very first day, there might be 1 or 2 small bugs that are now fixed in the latest version. Sorry for the trouble and please leave a comment if you find any other issues!

New summer season trailer

I put together a quick trailer for the summer season to show off new graphics and events. Take a look!

I know I've been saying this for a few weeks now, but the season is VERY close to being finished. I'm still not comfortable giving an exact date, but I am ~90% sure it will be before the end of October. I really appreciate your patience and hope you'll enjoy all the new content!

In the meantime, let me know what you think of the trailer. Oh, and thanks as always for the wonderful support =)

New screenshots and summer updates

It's been too long since I posted an update! I apologize for the delay in releasing the summer season... a combination of issues that have popped up during playtesting and a bunch of real-life things (I got engaged, exciting right?) have taken up a lot of time lately.

I'm still working hard on getting everything ready, though! I expect the full season will be ready for release very shortly, although I still don't have an exact release date. To tide you over until then, here are a few new things on the way.

First off is several new festivals that you'll be able to participate in! Based on feedback from spring, players really liked the romantic aspect of the Misty Music festival, so I've made sure to include more of those kind of date events.

Here's a screenshot!

In addition to brand new content like festivals, items, and even characters, you'll see a lot of features that improve the current content as well. One such example is the villager checklist, which will help you keep track of villagers faces and names at the beginning of the game, as well as who you still have to meet.

This was one highly requested addition, so I hope it proves I've been listening to all your amazing feedback! Keep it coming as development moves forward =)

I'll try to post another update before too long, and expect news on an official release date very soon. Thanks as always for all your support! The positive response I've gotten from this community in particular has done a lot to keep me inspired and motivated over this long development.

Feel free to share any thoughts you may have on these screenshots or anything else!

Summer is coming to Sugar Blossom!

Hey all!
Development is wrapping up on the summer season, which means I'm expecting to have it completely finished and released within the next few weeks. I'll plan to post another update once I have a concrete release date, but for now I just thought I'd let everyone know that things are pretty much right on schedule.

Here's some more screenshots to give you a better idea of what the village will look like in the summer:

I did encounter a few bugs so far with carrying your save file over from the spring season -- however, it's not too concerning because it looks like something that's definitely fixable. I'm expecting a few problems to pop up, but hopefully nothing too drastic. Just to warn you!

I'm looking forward to seeing how people react to the new chapter, which should kick up potential playtime into the 15 hour range. Not bad! More importantly, I hope people enjoy all the new content and start to see more of the broader story.

Keep the feedback coming, and as always, thanks for your support!

First look at the summer season

Hey there, friends and farmers!

It's been a little while since I left an update here, but rest assured I've been working on the summer season and am on track to release it within a month or two. I don't have an official date yet, but here's a look at Sugar Blossom Village in the summertime:

Could those be... Sugar Blossom trees?

The new season will be very similar to spring in terms of gameplay -- you should be able to carry your old save files over and continue to work on your same farm. You can expect to see some new things as well, including festivals, character outfits, romance events, and maybe even some new villagers depending on how you play!

I really appreciate all the feedback I've gotten since the first season was released, and have worked hard to implement some of your suggestions into the next download. However, I couldn't possibly add everything I'd like to (or the game will never be finished) so I want to apologize if your specific comments weren't addressed. The line has to be drawn somewhere, and I hope you'll still enjoy playing.

Thanks again to everyone for your enthusiastic support! I'll try to post regular updates as the summer season gets closer to release.

Development Spotlight! (and some testimonials)

It's been about a month and a half since the release of the spring season and I'm absolutely thrilled at the reception the game has gotten, both here and elsewhere on the great wide internet. The fact that World's Dawn was put in the Development Spotlight by the good admins of this community is a huge honor and makes me feel better about the hundreds (thousands, let's be honest) of hours that went into this project over the years.

I am hard at work on the next season of the game, which I'm expecting to have ready around July or August. So for those of you who've played the current season and are awaiting more, rest easy! For those of you who haven't yet, maybe the following opinions will change your mind =)

"World's Dawn, a free game crafted by one-person development studio Wayward Prophet, captures all the best things about Harvest Moon but also weaves a much more interesting story around characters that have a lot of depth to them."
- Lena LeRay,

"The episodic World's Dawn is one you should keep both eyes on if you've ever been swallowed up by Harvest Moon."
- Tom Sykes, PC Gamer

"If you like games that require you to manage a business in a small town, that allow you to play at your own pace, and that provide a fantastic way to spend an hour or so each day, I highly recommend taking a look at World’s Dawn, as it delivers the 'farmhouse role-playing game' fantastically."
- James Bartholomeou, Indie Love

"So, if you need something to keep you amused this week, consider World’s Dawn. It’s free, it should run on any PC, and it’ll give you a nice farming fix."
- Jenni Lada, Technology Tell

Pretty awesome stuff! Thanks again to everyone who's played or supported the game in any way thus far -- there's lots more on the way!

Feedback survey and future updates

Hello all!
I'm very happy with 1000+ downloads after just about one month. Thanks to everyone for your feedback and support thus far, but mostly just for your interest in the game. I really tried to do something different than the average RM project and it's great to see those efforts are appreciated around here.

Quick update on future plans:
Each season will be released as a separate chapter, with summer next, followed by autumn, and finally -- obviously -- winter. The plan is to complete the entire game by the end of this year, at which point you'll be able loop back around to spring and keep playing indefinitely. As with the Harvest Moon games I've looked to for inspiration, there's no real end or time limit to your farming. Sure, Sugar Blossom needs saving, but you can take your time doing it!

This means that you should definitely hang onto your save files located inside the "Diary" folder! I have tested this system for carrying over your data to new seasons, and everything seems to be working as it should. There's still the slightest of chances we'll run into a bug along the line, but you should be able to continue your current story as each new season is released.

Finally, I put together a very short (10-question) survey and am looking for as much feedback as I can gather. This will really help with the development of future seasons, so if you've played the game and don't mind spending a couple minutes filling it out, I'd really appreciate it.

Take the awesomely fun spring season survey!

Of course, you can always leave your thoughts here as well, or on the project website, studio Facebook page, or anywhere else you can find me around the interwebs.

Thanks again! And stay tuned for updates on the upcoming summer season!

Bug fixes and screenshot comparisons

It's been a little over a week since the release of the spring season and I'm happy with the response so far! Since then, players have helped me identify a handful of issues and bugs (nothing too major) that went unnoticed by myself and my testers. Most of those issues have been fixed and a new version of the season has been uploaded! For anyone who encountered these issues and have yet to complete the season, you should be able to copy your save file over from the old "Diary" folder to the new one.

If anyone finds anything else, or has further suggestions on how to improve the game moving forward, please let me know!

Which brings me to my second point, which is that I would absolutely love some more feedback on the game. The players I have heard from have been great, but if anyone else wants to help me out by writing up a quick review or even just a few sentences on what you like or don't like, I would truly appreciate it. I've already started work on the next chapter (to hopefully come out within a couple months) and could really use your help.

Finally, I was looking at the old demo that was released was back in 2010 and laughing about how much different (and worse) the game looked then. I have some fancy mouseover comparisons over at my blog but the screenshot below will give you some idea. World's Dawn has come a long way!
