The Archer

"Here's a hedge knight who yearns to be a hedgehog..say the word, and we'll put a dozen quarrels in him. At this distance, they will punch through that armor like it was made of spit."

In the present day Graylands, the longbow is the most advanced and terrifying piece of military technology that is widely available. A crossbow, while slow and cumbersome, is a weapon that almost anyone can use, and it has tremendous killing power. A properly equipped and trained archer is a different story entirely, capable of loosing dozens of arrows in rapid succession. The arrow flies fast enough and far enough to penetrate nearly any armor. Many knights and soldiers of the Graylands lament the invention of the longbow as the death of honor in combat, while pragmatists embrace its deadly efficiency. Some consider archers craven cowards who fight from a safe distance while still others idolize the deadly grace and panache of archers, spinning them into dashing rogues in tales and songs.

While they might seem mundane compared to the destructive magic of the Arcanon and the siege weapons of the Engineers company of archers, properly equipped and directed, can wipe out an entire infantry battalion in a few seconds before the infantry even gets close enough to attack. An arrow will kill you just dead as a sword...and from much, much, much further away.

VITAL STATISTICS
TYPE: Ranged .
Like "strikers" in D&D 4E, the purpose of ranged combatants is primarily to do damage while the healers heal and the front-line soldiers take the hits. (Of course, all of the unit types are capable of doing all of these things, but each class and unit has its specialties.) The archer is the archetypical ranged attacker, and can inflict damage over a large area or focus in on a specific target. The archer is also the fastest unit type in the game.

EXAMPLE SKILLS
Most archer skills are limited by cooldowns and per battle uses, but some can be used at will.
Unleash Volley: Not worrying about accuracy or deadly aim, the archer simply fills the air with as many arrows as possible, hoping to hit something. Can potentially hit all enemies, although damage and accuracy are each reduced to 70% of normal. A cooldown time of two turns must be waited between volleys. <Free Starting Skill>
Fire Arrow: One arrow fired is lit by a torch and deals "Fire" elemental damage, which is more effective against some enemies and less effective against others. The damage is the same as a normal attack and has a one-turn cooldown. <Cost: 400 JP>
Poison Arrow: This shot deals poison damage and causes the target to suffer DoT. One turn cooldown, only two uses per battle. <Cost: 400 JP>
Blitz Shot: This normal attack is fired IMMEDIATELY when the command is selected and what's more, does not take the Archer's turn. Perfect for when you really need to hit an enemy before they act, but it also grants the benefit of a free regular attack each turn. <Cost: 1000 JP>
PROFICIENCIES:
Weapons: Bows and Crossbows.
Armor: Leather and chain. Hats and light helms. Bucklers and wooden shields.
