I've been saying I'd do something around promoting/using/making tutorials for RMVX for like forever and haven't gotten around to it...UNTIL NOW.

I am going to make a straightforward game in RMVX called "Trials & Tribulations" (lol T&T)(take THAT V&V!) and I will blog about my experience as an avid Rm2k3 user making the leap to RMVX. It should prove boring to read interesting! (I hope! (yeah right!))

This game will contain nothing fancy. This is going to be a beginner's project. I don't want to do anything overly complicated, advanced or intimidating. I am an absolute beginner with VX.

For those VX experts out there: I will reach out to you for help, but I intend to try things out on my own since that is the point of the project.

STORY ::..

The land of Xnyndril is in peril! The Dark Lord Voidius and his army of netherdemons is destroying the world! The kingdom's many attempts to slay the evil lord have failed, resulting in a dearth of suitable heroes. To the rescue are the Quirks, a motley band of heroes who have opted to pursue the more esoteric classes in their training.

CLASSES ::..
*a work-in-progress, subject to change.

I will reveal more about the classes and my plans for them as my ideas mature! Also, Dudesoft is making some wicked character art. This will eventually migrate to its own gamepage once more data is ready.

Beekeeper
Uses bees and bee-skills to fight, has honey for healing.

Facepuncher
Punches faces. Hard.

Guitaromancer
A wizard who plays guitar. He can build up power and unleash a killer riff.

Mad Hatter
Wearing different hats unlocks different abilities.

Pokerface
A clever mathamagician who uses numbers and probability to defeat his foes.

Larper
Pretends to be a hero. But he is really good at pretending.

Barkeep
Imbibes and provides various liquids for status effects.

Rouge
A rogue-of-questionable-gender. He (she?) is not above stealing, either.

Now, that's 8 classes BUT there is no definitive healer-type. Currently the Philanthropologist is the front-runner for that role (the study of the strong affinity or love for humans). Spiritual Healers and Pharmacomancers are also in the mix. I was also considering having Droids, because robots are cool.

Singing a different tune

Now that my Game Gale sideproject is (finally) finished I can get back to this one....although, the primary purpose of this project was to familiarize myself with VX...which the Game Gale project did for me....so.....what is the point of T&T?

Seriously.

Melody and T&T
Anywho, my experience and expertise with VX is still in the novice stage. that being said, Craze suggested that I take a gander at Yanfly's newfangled Melody Battle Engine. I figured - why not? It's not like I got anywhere with T&T before it went on hiatus. Now, I haven't looked at Melody AT ALL so I have no idea what is in store for me, but it can't be that bad, right? Right?

So, I resolve to take a look at Melody, see what it can do, and adapt my class designs to fit within its mold.

Story REDUX and Episodes
Since my life just seems to get busier and busier, I find myself with less time for makin gams. In an effort to mitigate this, I am strongly considering making T&T an episodic game. Each episode will be a story contained within the larger story arc - whatever that is (I haven't even decided that yet). I don't even have an overall plan yet, or even the number of episodes I plan on having. But I have vague ideas.

Anywho, the first episode will most likely be The Journal of the Crooked King and will revolve around a neighboring kingdom's King consorting with the Bad Guys, and your task will be to show him the light. At least, that's probably what I'll do.

Adopting an episodic format also opens the door to making T&T a chaingame, which was an idea I explored in an earlier blog. However, in that earlier blog it was argued that THIS IS VX TUTORIAL/KENTONA GAME... Maybe I can hybridize that and have someone else write and design an episode and I implement it. I dunno, I'm just shitballin' here. I just know that my free time is shrinking every day and I'm getting on in years.

welp.

That was my inspiration.

Also, Rei-, this project is in its early early infancy, but I already know that I will need to modify the tileset to include hills and grasslands on the worldmap (to go with the plains, forest and mountains already there). Or perhaps I am missing something.

Anywho, I'll know more when I look into it. Later.
Fool me once, shame on you. Take your April Fools and go home. >=(
I never asked the community, but does anyone think this is a good idea/bad idea? I fully intend on making a project in VX and exploring the engine, but if no one really cares I will just keep it to myself. I anticipate this being some work to pull off.

We care. Default RTP just makes me want to hang myself.

For sprites I'd recommend that one site Max linked somewhere. The one which allows you to compile your own ones with a few clicks, that is.
I have not heard of that! I will have to investigate...
Just kidding, I think this sounds awesome and will be of tremendous benefit for those of us who have always been comfortable with Rm2k but would like to try something new. Have you considered a short weekly or monthly dev blog so we can follow your progress learning the engine?

The dev blog was the entire point of this game, actually.

And I was thinking more along the lines of "I'll Blog when I encounter something new and different", like adding scripts for the first time, or mapping, or modifying the battle background or titlescreen, or the like.

That was my inspiration for the Facepuncher Godhand (I forget what I called it but the whole thing was about punching faces) for an older community game thrown around a while back.

Also bees!
Great news. I'm subscribed and excited.

You called it God Hand and it was an elite class in Missiongarde.

Why has GRS not made a Tribble-ations joke yet?
Aww dang i thought it was a FinalFantasy game... (>'o')>
Nope, it's even better; a kentona game.
"Alternate titlescreen. I am making this the main image because I am assuming it will generate the most clicks since it looks like FF."

My plan is working.
