A Quick review for a Great game.

When first browsing through the games on this website I came across Everlasting Journey. Now, I'll admit, upon first glance I wasn't too sure about it, but after actually playing it (fully to the end, as anyone should) I gotta say, it was actually a rather fun and impressive game. Keeping this simple and quick, as the title says, We'll start the simple category stuff!

:::Story:::
5/5
Honestly, the story itself is quite addicting once you really get into the characters and their personalities. Without giving away too much, you start off as an Average Joe of sorts, who after some stuff loses his job and is greeted by a random girl. From there what starts as a simple Favor and chance to get out of town turns into a world-wide journey! You visit vast and unique towns, hear and witness history changing moments in the game, and even have a few random experiences around the world, but in a good way.

I personally thought it was a great storyline and definitely look forward to seeing how the story continues, especially after the surprise twist at the end.

:::Characters:::
5/5
I gotta admit, when it comes to games I love to really get into the character's head and their personalities, and this game was full of them! From the Average Joe type, to the tease of a lass, A pirate of true nature, and many others, each character had their own personality and unique story, to which again i want to see more of. I'll admit some of them i wish i could of gotten to know a bit more, but as this is only half-way done I'm sure more stories will open up.

:::Graphics/Design:::
4/5
When it came to graphics and the designs of the levels and such, I was quite impressed and happy with how it all came together, especially the battle scenes and views. The game itself uses some of the starter sprites and chipsets with little edits, and it works for it quite well in my own opinion. There were a few little weird chipsets thing if you REALLY go into exploring the game, and one or two of the worlds made me wish i could see more or have more little things, but honestly nothing that would take away from the game experience itself, unless you tried going out of your way to find.

:::Music & Sounds:::
5/5
Alot of the musics and sounds I found rather nice, especially the jukebox later on in the game. I felt as if each music fit it's scene accordingly and really helped to immerse you into the area or feeling. Personally one of my favorite tunes had to be in a place you find later involving Pigmys, dunno why but i just enjoyed it. Sound wise i personally found no issues with, but I do know alot of the sounds were used from Chrono Trigger, to which is one of my favorite games, so i might be a TAD biased in that subject. Either way, i enjoyed it in the end.

:::Gameplay:::
3/5
From the fights, to the exploring, the BAR features, and the various changing weapons to change little elements this game has A LOT to offer. A lot of the game really is using enemies' weaknesses against them to finish them quickly, and honestly i didn't seem to have trouble with any of the enemies or bosses but focusing on this little strategy, besides maybe one or two cause i was caught off-guard. Now, from a personal note I do sometimes feel as if the battles were a bit repetitive towards the end, mostly towards a certain building in a jungle, which isn't too bad, and I also didn't find much use for the Drunk meter in the BARs nor some of the item names, BUT none the less the game is still something to check out and play as the last two things are merely personal ideas, to TRULY judge a game one should ALWAYS try it for themselves first.

:::Pros:::
-Great Story
-Fun items and equipment
-Amazing Characters
-Unique chance to strategist fights & attacks
-Awesome Airship features

:::Cons:::
-Sometimes repetitive
-PERSONAL: Drunk meter & item names

:::Overall:::
4.5/5
Overall this is an amazing guy, sometime i think anyone should check out and play fully to get truly involved, including the story, characters, and little twists here and there. I personally can not wait for the 2nd part to come as I would love to see where this goes in the future. A big thank you to Pepsiotaku for taking the time to make such a great game and great experience. If my review has encouraged any of you to try it, be sure to form your own opinion on some of the subject as i mentioned one or two things were from a slight personal sorta view.

Enjoy :3

Thanks for the review! It's funny you mention the Drunk meter. It's been a few years since I designed that system, so I've actually been debating simplifying it. I just haven't figured out how I want to approach it.

Maybe after getting drunk, you can get general items/money out of the other patrons? That might give you a general reason for it.

I think something like that would be a really good idea. I played the game til the end and the only time i got drunk was to 'speak' Phillip's language. If there were maybe someway to either get items/money from other when you were drunk, or maybe even find a way to get them drunk to do so i think it'd give the system more of a purpose in the game ^^
