Alpha Version 0.07 Feedback
rabitZ- 05/22/2012 03:31 AM
Hi people.
I realize now this projects is close to taking up 3 years of my life.
I admit I had spells where I hardly worked on it, but it wasn't because lack of desire. Real life is a bitch.
It's time to wrap it up, even if that means cutting on some planned content.
(Two towns look likely to see the boot).
I leave this blog post so you can post any form of feedback about the latest download. v0.07 it's awfully close to completing the main storyline.
It's time for our heroes to go pay a visit to the capital!
Things missing (in order of importance):
- The final dungeon, Whitecroft Castle.
- Finishing Princes Rostam's Skillset. (Mainly Shouts that enhance the party.)
- Finishing the products of Alchemy and Blacksmithing.
- Balancing like crazy.
- A hell of a lot of flavor text.
- Expanding on 5 sidequests: Wolves Den, Thieves Hideout, Caravan Raiders, The Haunted Mines and the Snow Relics.
- A HELL of bugtesting.
Misc rambling:
Some more thoughts in my head about this game.
* Thing I´m proud of:
- The mapping. I grew fond of the RMXP RTP. Creating environments that incite explorations is something I always desire. Criticism is always welcome, of course.
- My music choices? None of them are original, but they remind of games I loved in my teen years.
- The interface? I tried to make the menus and fonts pleasant to look at. I sometimes obsess by the position of one pixel (gotta stop doing that).
* Things I'm not so proud of:
- The battles? I still want to find something to make them more interesting. (Suggestions?)
- That I spend so little time working on this sometimes.
* Things I'm neutral about:
- The story. I like the setting but more characterization and background could certainly help the projects. I have a lot of ideas for it written down. I'll try to infuse them in the game.
- The grinding. I know some of you hate it. But I always kinda liked grinding. Searching optional dungeons for loot and battling the enemies over and over to test newly acquired skills and weapons.
Your comments are welcome!
Feel free to bash me for writing this piece of shit blog post! :)
I just feel like pouring my thoughts out. RMN is a wonderful community, and I like interacting with the users here. Sometimes I spend more time on the forums than working on my game!
Thanks.

I love the graphics and over all tone of this game and am enjoying it a lot. There are some problems though:
At any given time the game will crash with the message NoMethodError Unidentified Method Included? for nil:NilClass.
Since there is no set scenario where this happens I have to constantly SAVE and unfortuantely it sometimes happens before I get a chance to.
Also I have the BLACKSMITHING skill but when I try to start working it, it says his PERCEPTION skill is 0 (whats his name, I forget...starts with an M). The HERO I forget his name too...gee...anyway HIS perception skill is 14-15 so it works just fine apparently.
Lastly, some monsters I walk right up to and nothing happens at all. Theywont move or anything...especially one in a cave sitting on a bridge.
Great little game though and I am looking forward to getting beyond these glitches and continue on my merry way.

Hi Roy! Thanks for the Feedback:
1) Wow, that is unfortunate, I will start bug testing heavily to see if I can replicate the error. I apologize. As soon as I find the error, I will upload a corrected version.
EDIT: If you manage to identify the situation that makes this happen. It will be extra helpful. But I will surely fix it even if you can't. My apologies again.
2) Yes, you're right. That is just an text mistake on my part. The value displayed should be correct. It's just the text that is wrong, it should say "Blacksmithing". I will fix that.
3) Hmm... Have you tried pressing the action button on them? I think I know which ones you are talking about... I will go on about fixing them.
Thanks for the reply! Let me know if you are stuck or anything.
Any comments are always appreciated.

Also, to clarify:
When you select the Blacksmithing Skill from the Skill Menu, all it does is show you your skill level.
To actually craft stuff and use the skill, you have to go to an anvil (like the one in the weapon shop in Newtower) and press the action button.

AHA!!!!! The anvil! Did I miss that little gem of info somewhere....no doubt!
Thank you for replying and being so helpful...that speaks volumes about character!
I am still trying to finish the first quest about murders but suspect that and the need for assorted keys will remedy themselves once I manage to get past the critter which can only be defeated with acid.
I really do like the graphics. The crispness is good and the shadows make for a more interesting gameplay.

Hey, no problem. I'm here for whatever you need.
1) To finish the quests about murders, you should probably look south, in the first wilderness. You should find a cave, filled with kobolds and levers. Be sure to bring a Shovel.
2) That critter is tough. There are a few acid potions in one of the chests inside one of the various caves. But you can always make more with the alchemy skill. (The recipe is found in the same cave I mentioned before). Also, a question: Do you have learned Alchemy?
3) Be sure to let me know if you get that nasty crash error again, and what you were doing when you get it. For example: does it happens IN-BATTLE or OUTSIDE-BATTLE? Any info is a huge help to me. Thanks a lot for the replies.

Wow, something is definitely off.
It wasn't like this before.
I suggest you wait for the fixed version, I'll upload it between tomorrow and the next day.
Always the same error, right?

While I fix this...
Anyone else getting any errors?
Thank you, and I apologize for any inconveniences.
EDIT: I found FOUR bugs already.
- A bug that makes all Alchemy Recipes unusable and crashes the game. It has been fixed.
- A bug that makes the game crash when attempting to forge certain items. I was due to a misnamed icon graphics file. It has been fixed.
- A bug that makes the game crash when attempting to attack an enemy without a weapon equipped. It has been fixed.
- One of the Blacksmithing recipes ("Copper Axe") was essentially free to make, leading to imbalance of resources (infinte selling, haha). This has been fixed.

The Wolves Den and the Thieves Hideout....are these doable later? I certainly cant find them. There certainly are a lot of doors which need keys.
BIG BUG: in the area where you fight LUGAN or whatever his name is....you used to be able to get a free save but once you fight him, he keeps re-appearing on the way in and on the way out if you proceed to go down and get the healing.

Roy, thank you for your reports.
1) The Wolves Den and the Thieves Hideout are NOT yet implemented in the game. They will be in the final version.
2) Thank you for this, I have checked now and found the bug. BTW, Lucan is the FINAL BOSS of the demo, so once you kill him there is no more story advancement in the demo.
I just got home, so I will fix this bug and upload a new version.
Thanks again.
