Progress Report

Update and Readable Books!

Well, I've come to the realization that I only have...6 more areas left to map (minus the multitude of stages and variations for Oderra) and then the entire world is fully mapped! I'll officially call myself over half way complete and then its all events, events, events and after that? Testing!
Anyway, I took the time to write up over 30 different books to read in the game. You are given a choice to either read them or leave them on the various bookshelves you find in castles, houses, churches and even some live-in caves! Some serve no other purpose than to flesh out the world and its history, but others can pass on knowledge to better any of your characters in the form of 'tabs.' Finish a book to its very end and I'm debating on if I'll ask a question to see if you read it fully. If answered correctly, you'll get the appropriate stat-increasing tab to use on any character you feel needs it. So what do you think? Like the idea?
Right now, work may be a bit....slow. Just picked up Witcher 2 and...my life is a bit absorbed. So this will be on hold until I exhaust that game first! ha ha

EDIT UPDATE: Also, a new video depicting an optional boss battle! Yay!

Progress Report

Haven't made an update lately have I?

Well, rest assured, since the previous blog update, I've completed Manchu Caves, the snow city of Erromon, Loramel Forest, Starlet Cavern, and Kinneas Forest. I'm also working on Magi Tower at the moment. So I've been quiet, but I certainly haven't been lazy! I have about 8 more 'areas' left to design/map out. Once that is finished, all that's left is events, events, events! And some testing and then a release! Its well over half way done, I can say that much. I took the liberty of counting up the amount of sidequests/mini-games and other misc. non-main story based events in my game that I have planned...other than the fishing, cursed sphere and digsite mini-game things already scripted and implemented into the game; I have a grand total of 62 EXTRA THINGS you can do in addition to the main story. Talk about a LOT of stuff to keep you busy, NOT TO MENTION the massive world just to simply explore! I'm already at 385 maps and still counting! Hopefully that is a lot of good news for you sandbox RPG players out there!
Also, since no one has really replied to my previous post about the exhibition match, I thought I'd bring it up again here:

"Also, taking a small nod to the Tales series, in my arena in Bhalstok, depending on certain conditions, you can be faced with an exhibition match! Since I only have one RPG I've created to draw from, the four characters you face in Arena combat will be from Land of Dreams. Obviously Robert will be included since he is the main brother. Godric will be in as well, being the holy/healing character and of course Robert's brother. So both are key roles in the LOD game. Elinee, being the daughter of the main villain and a powerful magic user seemed an obvious third choice. So that just leaves the fourth character of which I'm undecided. Who would you like it to be? Who would round out this cast of four characters from Land of Dreams to face in ultimate combat? Comment with your votes and you can decide who will be the fourth member of the exhibition match in the final game!"

Taking a break for now...+Exhibition Match!

I have a incoming baby real soon to add to the one I've already got and my time is going to get tight for a while. So I think I finished quite a bit in the last two weeks (4 full areas!) so I can rest easy. I will leave you with this video. For those wondering how the battle system will play out, here is a demo of a simple enemy encounter in a rather...hard optional area. Enjoy.

GAH! WHY DID IT DO THIS!??!?!

I was making a broken and fixed version of Oderra, like a before and after deal. I was swapping back and forth between the two maps, I finished up both and then saved. But at that very moment it turned the 'broken' version into a simple 20x15 blue screen map with nothing on it and its ALREADY SAVED! All my work I did on the map is lost, WHY DID IT DO THIS?! Just set me back a whole friggin day, I'm done for the night. rm2k3 just pissed me off...

Summons, Then and Now + An Update!

First the update! I finally finished Bhalstok. Second of the three larger cities I must create for this game. I HATE creating towns, because they will be a common focal point the player keeps coming back to time and again, I feel the need to make them awesome and not dull. So they usually are like writer's block to me. It takes forever to get me to finish them. But finish Bhalstok I have and now I'm full throttle on the next few caves/forests/deserts. Which are going by a lot faster for me. So progress should speed up now on this!

Now onto the video:
SPOILER NOTE: For those wanting to keep each summon a surprise, don't watch this video. Wait for the game to be finished, then find out for yourself! You've been warned!
Since I've scrapped and redone Amulet of Fate several times. Certain things had to change or were changed. One of these were the summon animations. Originally, I have FF6 battle animations and enemy sprites, but mixed in with RTP summon graphics for animations. These didn't exactly mesh together as well as I'd hoped. However, with the new Amulet of Fate variant, I rectified this and made the summons the same in graphic tone as FF6. As such, certain summons had to change. But since I didn't want all my previous work to go to absolute waste, I decided to film the old summons and compare them against the new so people can see what once was. Otherwise, once the old AOF demo gets deleted, all that work will be lost forever. At least here, the old summons will be preserved in video form. I hope you all enjoy the video.
NOTE 2: The first six summons are mandatory to beat the game. The second six summons are optional ones you can find.

No progress, but...A video!

I haven't worked on this game in over a month since I'm focusing mainly right now on my Mega Man game. But I did want to show off for a long while now the 8 characters you will be using and how they will be utilized in the battle system. Its simple, and basic. But it should provide enough strategy and decision making to satisfy battle enthusiasts. Do note that Amaldia can never leave the group, so you must carefully pick your team around her from the remaining seven characters.

Progress, but still far to go

I highly doubt it'll be done this year. Hopefully next year. This game is quite ambitious and I have a crap-ton still left to do. Its insane how much honestly. But I have a progress page which I will be updating as each section comes to full completion. Sort of like a gauge to me to see just how well (or not) I'm coming along with the RPG.

Not a lot of updates, but still plenty of progress!

Last time I posted, I had completed Alur'Rang, Garovo Pass and Yalinor Forest! Since then, I've completed Palidor Cavern, Denithor Forest, Kirin Cavern, Galea (the desert town), Bastion Sands (and accompanying Pyramid), Dasa Pass, and half of Vorindae Fortress. So even though there isn't a lot of updates on this page. I am still making good progress! In fact, I just updated with two new screenshots of both Vorindae and Dasa Pass.

Lots of progress! Plus a look at the included Bestiary!

Since finishing Alur'Rang, my inspiration has soared. I've finished Garovo Pass with its included fort and cave area. Then finished Yalinor Forest with its cave, then Palidor Cavern, and Denithor Forest. Lots of work for a short span of two weeks!
Anyway, on a side note, I'm working on a Bestiary that I'm creating as I'm working along with the RPG. That way it isn't a huge deal of work at the very end. It'll be done when I'm done with the RPG. Here is an example entry for the 'Brawler' enemy:

Going from left to right, top to bottom:
Name: You get his name.
Type: You get the enemy type, in this case: Human. This lets you know the general weapons types and elements it is weak against.
Picture: You get a nice picture of what the enemy looks like.
Status Vulnerabilities: You get a good look at what you can use against him to make your life easier.
Status Resistances: You get to see what you shouldn't use against him.
Elemental Vulnerabilities: You get a good look at the elements he is weak against.
Elemental Resistances: You get to see what elements won't work on him.
Endurance Points: How many HP he has at each of his distinctive power levels.
Inner Spirit Points: How many MP he has at each of his distinctive power levels.
Strength: How strong he is at each of his levels.
Stamina: How much defense he has at each of his levels.
Wisdom: How much his spells/skills are going to hurt at each of his levels.
Dexterity: How fast he will attack at each of his levels:
Experience: How much you'll earn when you defeat him at each of his power levels.
Item Drops: Each power level has a different, more valuable item drop than previous. So the rate of drop goes down the stronger he gets and more valuable the item is.
Attacks: Simple attacks that really aren't skills. Do note the triple dashed number for his double attack, at his first power level, it has a weight of 28, but increases to 29 for level 2 and 3 forms.
Skills: The meat of his attacks. If multiple dashed numbers, it means the same skill has different weights across his power levels. If a condition like Monster IS<25/20%, it means when he first learns the skill at level 2, it lowers in precondition for level 3. Finally, the bracketed numbers means at what power level he'll start using the skill at. Not shown here, but if a skill line is highlighted in blue font, that means it is a blue magic skill you can learn for your Blue Mage.

So that is a lot of information for one enemy. Not to worry, Bosses won't be spoiled and will remain secretive about their stats/attacks/weaknesses. The Bestiary I'm compiling won't include them, unless people really want them there. What I hope to gain from this bestiary is to give players a nice boon of info to refer to if they are looking for some elusive item drop, or blue magic spell and where and which enemy specifically to get it from. That and if some enemies are giving you trouble, what you can do to make things easier. So what do you all think? Good idea? (Either way, it is going to be bundled with the RPG when its done)

Finally finished Alur'Rang

I am deciding to post this blog because to me, it is a major accomplishment. One of the biggest cities in my game is finally finished. It comprises over 60 maps and includes a major central hub, bazaar, ship port, casino, inn, three guilds, church, poor and rich living spaces, bar, and a pretty massive castle. So yeah, I'm proud that I finally finished the city. Now I can finally move on with the rest of my rpg! I've been stalled in Alur'Rang for the longest time! lol
