Backstory
Take on the role of Marcus, an aging war veteran who awakens under peculiar circumstances... he has joined the ranks of the undead! Battle your way through a gothic necropolis of skeletons, vampires, and werewolves to unravel the mystery behind your undead condition. This RPG will feature a unique turn-based battle system, character customization to fit your play-style, and handmade retro NES-style graphics. Thanks. Good luck... there is an unintended difficulty spike coming up in the form of a boss. His mechanic was poorly thought out and I've been procrastinating addressing it. Did I say procrastinating? I meant it was a lower priority to new content. Another spike happens once you get to the manor area. I overestimated how efficient players would be by then (it was actually even worse before NicoB playtested it, I just wasn't generous enough when I made quick adjustments).
Not to discourage you from playing, but your save file will be incompatible with the finished product for reasons I could've prevented with better planning. Though, that's not coming out for a bit since I'm a legendary procrastinator.

I wasn't planning on it. I have no idea what I'll do after Necropolis, but it likely won't be a sequel.
What inspired you to make this game?
I'm not sure. I had an idea for a battle system devised around combos and ran with it. The graphics and audio are obviously inspired by the NES games that defined my childhood, such as Final Fantasy and Castlevania.
When do you plan to finish part 2 of Necropolis?
I don't really have a plan. I just work on it when I have nothing else to do, usually in spurts. Part 2 will just be the completed game, which isn't that far off in terms of how much work I need to do, but is seemingly aeons away in terms of effort. I am a legendary procrastinator.

I finally played the demo,it had been in my hard disk for quite a bit of time so I decided to give it a shot & I can't believe that I COULD love a rpg maker 2003 game...It was fantastic.Loved it.I really liked the dialogues between the characters & that zombie talk was so good(urooooo).

I wasn't expecting to like it, but the unusual beginning and witty dialogue won me over. It was like a NES classic that never was, without being a rehash of what we've come to expect :D
The battles were a bit taxing, since I had to battle often to stay fit enough to take on bosses; but the system was good fun, so for the most part I didn't mind~
Though the final boss was rough! I was lvl 8 without all of the best equipment, and that thing quickly demolished me unless I let it heal. I ended up doing the tri-attack for most of a verrrrry long battle.....
Anyway, excellent work!
EDIT: Oh, there was one bug I encountered... When I was in the garden maze, probably the last half?
I had full unobstructed view while walking around until the moment I exited the maze where it for a second went down to the circle. Re-entering the maze from that direction it functioned correctly, reducing vision.
Oh, and although I personally don't feel like like Marcus has an extremely interesting personality; his history and Ridley make up for it (not to mention how he kicks butt!) Best older looking character in a long time!

This is one of the most stylish looking games on the board. If that wasn't enough it contains an old man with an eye patch for pat.

Funny how the NES themed games (Generica, Dragon Fantasy, Necropolis) gets much more praise than most of the modern style games; I guess Nintendo had it right all along. But I agree with the sentiment here: this is indeed a very stylish and well designed game.

Finished up part 1, and for some reason the ending taste of what's to come reminds me of A Blurred Lines' end. Please, please don't go down Lys path and fail to provide us with closure.
Okay, that said, without your video I would still be struggling with the Soulkey and melody. Essentially, silencing them is the real key to the puzzle, so I was thinking you could add a sort of hidden clue that reveals this. Maybe an NPC that says something like:
"The symphony is great, and I love hearing different melodies. But when you need a peace of mind, silence can be bliss."
I also received the Tsunami and Hellfire combos, but could not get these to work for whatever reason, but LeafGust worked well enough on the final boss for part 1.
Hopefully in part 2 I'll finally be able to open those elusive doors with the cross symbol!

How would one even make a CBS in 2K3?!
Well, how do you think one can be created? Think about what information needs to be input into the system, how it's manipulated and recycled within the system, and where it's sent outwards. If you can't first visualize how it works on paper or in a flow chart or whatever, then first you should learn how to design a system. Once you can do that, figuring out how to achieve it using event functions should emerge from that thought process. If you want to know how to design a system, that's a bit complicated to explain in a game profile comment, but I would suggest starting much smaller than a battle system.

I agree, start with the basics and work outwards. It took me years to get my CBS to a point that I was happy and content with.
