So yeah, here it is, my first (Pretty half-assed) fully finished RPG maker project.

Retro Quest is a game designed to be reminiscent of old Gameboy RPGs such as Final Fantasy Legend, with poor dialogue and generic story-writing for that old unfinished feeling games used to have.

---- Story ----

Retro Quest follows a generic hero character - aptly named 'Hero' - as he journeys into a castle to save a princess from dark forces that have taken over.

Can YOU save the princess?

---- Gameplay ----

Retro Quest uses a basic ATB battle system, but with the perspective of games such as 'Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. The game all takes place inside one area (The castle) and is linear in gameplay style. It contains bosses, treasure chests, secrets, secret bosses, and all other things you'd expect from an RPG. On the subject of secrets, there are 28 'big' secrets to find in the game. Can you find them all?

There are two different types of abilities; Sword Art and Magic. Sword Arts are gained naturally through leveling, while Magic must be learnt through the use of Books found via shops, enemy drops, or treasure chests.

Retro Quest contains around 1-2 hours of game time, with an hour or two extra in New Game+ mode once you complete the game, unlocking a large new dungeon, and the chance to fight a secret superboss.

Warning, this post may contain spoilers, read at your own peril.

Pretty good game so far, and any bugs I did find were so small they aren't worth mentioning, as I highly doubt anyone else will notice them. Right now, I'm on the new game+, and I'm having some slight difficulty. I found around 14-15 secrets my first attempt, which I think is good. The thing thats troubling is I'm missing a fiend, and I'm not too sure on what area I missed, as I'm normally pretty thorough about finding stuff. The fiends I have are fire, water, ice, wind, and earth. Ironically, I found the earth fiend the first five minutes of the game, and got slaughtered when I challenged him. I had a bad feeling about him and saved beforehand though.

The game itself has the feel for what it's going for, and maps don't really bother me unless there really empty, so your maps don't bother me at all, even if they have a weird feel to them. I just thought I'd comment, especially after reading the latest review. I couldn't help but lol when he said you couldn't use items/run from battles. I'd like to see you fight a fiend without items, cause I know I used items for all of them. The secrets are pretty well done, I just wish I had that ability that reveals secret passages, from the ff genre. I have to say, the waterway is pretty dangerous too.

Well anyways, I'd say this game is pretty good for a first game, and it looks like sbester has some competition. Good luck with the sequel!

Please stop trying to be controversial, it's not working.
Original Gameboy games were green, not black and white. Only in the Gameboy Color could you see black/white graphics.

So, being "nostalgic" now means "free pass to be as lazy as fucking possible?"

It's always meant that.

This is so wrong. If this is the basis of your game making no wonder it's met with such distain.

Green & white/Black & White still pretty much the samething: 2 colours.
The original gameboy had 4 shades of green, there was no white.

When it says don't move, DONT MOVE. After she attacks 4 times, a message will pop up, which will not only heal you to full, but you'll be able to move. Pummel her.
The courtyard is at the very beginning of the game, to the right of where you start. Insert the orb there.

Also make sure the ATB is set to Active in the menu.
If it is set to Wait, Easton will never attack and you'll be left with no other choice than to act and die.

This is the kind of game design problem that normally shouldn't be an issue, but we can't help it when using the engine's default battle system.

Found a glitch: Being equipped with the Fire Amulet does not reduce Fire damage at all. I think every elemental resistance might be glitched too. That's because you checked both the "Magic" and "Fire" (or other elements) attributes for the magic skills. Magic and Fire attributes' damage modifiers must be stacked or something, so resistance-providing equipment become near useless.
I recommend you delete the "Magic" attribute completely and check only one attribute per skill. That way elemental resistance will work properly.
