Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

Hooray! Everyone except Lavitz has all their skills, I think. (Also, Aila has seven skills?! O_O Cool.) I think that she's buggy in general though, so maybe if I level her up I'll still get Swallow Dance...?
post=argh
I think my Reeves is bugged somehow. He's level 30, but has only learnt one ability so far. Is this intentional? If so, when does he learn his other two abilities?

Edit: ...And now Tinderbot II has not learned Nova Launcher upon reaching level 30. Does the new patch make it so that you don't have to level characters up to gain skills, but if you had a game before the patch, it means they never learn them?

...I am a sad panda. :'(

okay, I'll try manually giving them the skills. Expect a new patch when I get home today.

EDIT: Okay, download patch 2-2. It should fix it and hopefully not cause other problems.

The place that I want to forget about.

I like that :). I think I'm gonna start referring to OP this way.

...No? It was finished in the middle of October.
Isn't this a little old to finally be featured?
Finished this today. Great game. Might write a review for it if I'm not lazy.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts. What did you find in the end?
What I meant was that I found the secret that I tried to find during the last couple of days. Actually this was the only reason why I did reset optional content two times and was going through some parts of various phases again in hope to find clues. Yesterday I was able to get the clue wich I actually stumbled across much earlier but eventually forgot.
Using the hint right was for some reason not that difficult. I believe you can guess what I am talking about.
With "I can now rest", I actually do mean I can finally lay the game away and say I am done with it for now untill I eventually feel like playing through it again.
"Great game"... I was drained and tired when I typed that so I guess I'll try to use some more words.
I found Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis to be fun and interesting though emotional at times and it kept me entertained the whole time, though the postgame...
...was little more than creepy and confusing. It was interesting in its own way especially since it felt so much different from the main plot.
Gameplay was awesome. I like exploring and strategic battles... and the bugs while sometimes being annoying weren't enough to hinder me to enjoy this game.
I loved how you weren't greedy with cutscenes. The number and quality are impressive and are a nice change from gameplay. Overall I can't count many bad aspects, but one of them was I felt lost at few points, though these were only in the postgame. These were...(might contain spoilers)
...I didn't really got any clues from the game about how to get to Tinder's Hideout or that I actually have to get there, labling that gaming article as useless made me believe it actually is after a while... and lastly to find that secret in the place that I want to forget about. Apart from these I got through the game without being stuck too long.
I am not sure if it's because I enjoyed the game so much or because of the number of bugs that made me register here. I guess it's a mix of both.
To get to your question about what I did find in the end I am not sure what you mean.
If you mean what I found for myself I guess it's the satisfication that I now discovered everything there is to... or so I think.
If you ask what exactly I was looking for in the game and finally discovered... I guess I leave it unmentioned as I believe you can already guess it.
Alright, new patch up now, along with fixes for bugs mentioned by KK. If your savegame froze cause you saved on the world map, download this patch and it should work again.

(What does the patch do, by the way?)

The patches are just various bugfixes that people (mainly KK) have been reporting to me, and changes that have been suggested. It's generally a good idea to pick them up.

does it happen to be this Derek Yu post? http://makegames.tumblr.com/post/1136623767/finishing-a-game

I was thinking more along the lines of the intro post that I think Solitayre made some time ago for anyone new coming to RMN, but I guess that works too.

KK bugs

You're right on all accounts. All 3 fixed now.

Edit: I finally found what I was seeking. Now I can rest. Great game.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts. What did you find in the end?
Alternative Exceed-Abilities
Ah, that's why. I rarely get a good look at Enemy Ability-Names, so I didn't noticed these being more common.

I stumbled across some minor things:
I am not sure but I believe Gamma is the third letter and Delta the fourth. So these should be maybe vice versa?

The Jeebes of the dark side is able to summon a Jeebes-Copy to cast some Mass-Destruction:

Tinderbot 3 gets to -5 Ex after using the Energy Field. Not sure if it's the same with the Stim Field.

Edit: I finally found what I was seeking. Now I can rest. Great game.

I am re-downloading the whole thing since I erased my copy. So I am interested in this as well.

Oh, dear... Guess you might read this and try the download link that follows...it might work.

http://rpgmaker.net/games/272/blog/3569/

Best option is never to save on the world map before implementing any patch, according to Neok.

EDIT: I might add..."1337" downloads as of this posting....l33t

Um, when you enter the facility and head to the left, before you reach the room with the water switch there should be a room full of water. You have to get to the bottom of that room by getting the water level down to 1 while on the 2nd level, then using the tube on the second level of that room to get to the bottom, and head directly to the right, hopping over a gap and into the room beyond, which is where her dark battle is located.

Alternatively, you can also lower the water level to its lowest, then somehow find a way to get to the underwater area, then swim until you surface in the room with the tube with a ledge on both sides; there are only two rooms like it in the dungeon.

Me, I hit the first water switch to the far left of the dungeon, then returned to that room, jumped down to the second level (landing right on top of the tube, which won't work as long as water is up to the second level), then headed left to another switch, hit that one to get the water down again, and returned to the tube and headed down. Just headed directly to the right from there and wiped the floor with that ho.
Wonder if anyone can tell me where is Violet's shadow clone in underwater facility 1. I went around in circles but can't find it. Is it a hidden room ? Or is it in the water ? Wonder if it has anything to do with Celia saying she felt something wierd at the last exit room in the story mode ? Thankies in advance :)

I completed the main story but i don't know how to unlock orbital prison. I went through NML2 and OP appeared on the map. But when i went in, only the blue "Pantheon" is there. What do i do next ?

In the Pantheon, you see several areas like Slums, Below Stynx etc. These are the areas you need to go to find those mysterious glowing blue spheres that allow you to fight those shadow clones, ie. Shadow Celia, Shadow Leon etc. Defeat all ten of them to unlock the orbital prison (the 1st level anyway).
