Long time no see fellas. Time for some real talk. Get your real talk faces on. And maybe your reading glasses.

Firstly, I just want to say I love this s**t. I stopped game-making for 3 years, didn't do anything game-making related whatsoever. Picked up VX Ace recently, started fiddling around with it. It was like coming home. I'm back.

I want to go commercial with this.

I'd never originally intended to go commercial when I did this stuff before. Obviously that means I need to be a lot more careful with how I go about things. So, here's the thing:

Leaving aside the question of whether I'm even capable of being more than a 2-bit playa in the commercial games world, should I be worried at all about my dev past? Let me list the strikes,

- Use of illegally translated copy of RPG Maker 2003
- Use of rips from commercial games
- Use of music I have no permission to use

Like I said, never intended to go commercial, so didn't really care where resources were coming from, as long as it got the right feel across. Nobody cares when it's just a hobby that you're not making any money off of. At most, I can expect a cease-and-desist, and that's really more for trademarks (like fangames.)

But what about when I'm transitioning to commercial? Should I expect this kinda stuff to bite me in the ass later on if I make it big? (/pipe-dream) Obviously anything I do now, I either make myself, or check the terms-of-use for commercial viability, to ensure I don't get any lawsuits in my inbox. But do you guys think anyone's gonna see me selling stuff now, look at what I've done in the past, and want to knock me down Garland-style?

Basically what I'm saying is, I'm considering jumping names and releasing under another pseudonym. It'd be nicer if I could consolidate everything under the 'Neok' name, but I don't know if I want to risk it. The mods' will know everything, but hopefully they can keep secrets? Hell, my identity'd probably be pretty obvious from the first game. Or even just how I talk.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

If things go bad, maybe I can just completely jump ship and start making p*** games instead :D.

(p*** stands for phat. I don't know if I need to clarify this.)

Nobody cares about that Barkley 1 used rips.

It's fine.

You're safe. Make us proud.
Nobody care about your past dev days dawg with using resources. No worries.
No one will notice, at most you might get some paranoid call out that goes nowhere, but that's probably a 0.000001% chance. If anything you'll be respected for kicking the rips.
Don't worry. Nobody really cares about your past since, like you said, you didn't sell RPG Maker 2003 games. The important thing is when you go commercial with Ace.

So I assume you'll be making a completely new game or remaking Variant in Ace?

He's alive!

But yeah, no one will give a shit. Ask Reives(Quintessence to To the Moon) or harmonic(Legacies of Dondoran to Skyborn) it seems they're doing fine, no backlash or anything.
Ah okay, that's good. It really helps to hear about other dev's that've made the transition and are doing well.

New game most likely. Variant's got a little too much going on, so if anything, I'd probably break it into pieces and focus on individual plotlines... probably not as AAV though, since I don't want people to have to play previous works to get into my new stuff (especially considering it's on 2k3.)
This is a pleasant surprise.

As a jobless college student, money is tight, but I'm glad to see you interested in going commercial nonetheless.

Aw, so is AAV done for good? Or will we be seeing the basic story ideas in some other form?
Yeah, pretty much what everybody else already said; it shouldn’t / doesn’t matter about your past games and what you used for them before in regards to ripped resources. What matters now is what you decide to do for your own commercial games. Besides, having a bunch a freeware games available alongside your commercial stuff will give curious onlookers who are interested in purchasing one of your games a chance to test out some of your precious works from the past, before they decide to make a purchase or support you.

Sucks about you not continuing to work on Variant, but, in the infamous words of Todd Bertuzzi, “It is what it is.”

I’m glad that you’re getting back into the game making scene again; we all really missed you ‘round here - especially me. :)

I’m also curious, did your Alter A.I.L.A comic ever take off that you decided to do before your left??? Me wants to know.

Hey no problem, just hit me up whenever I get something out there and I'll toss you a link (as long as it's my own game (not a joint project), I'm not under contract, etc.). I'm not going to say I don't care about making money, but if you're generally cool (and you definitely are), I won't ask you to skip meals just to play my stuff.

Yeah, probably. It's a little too unfocused I think, with plot points left right and center, and if I remember correctly, a pretty unsatisfactory conclusion. I'll just keep the lessons in mind when I work on my next projects.

I don't think I did more than 10 pages before I dropped it like a sack of old potatoes. It just wasn't the same.

So where can we see this?
Yeah, I wanna see it too!

(Er, the comic, I mean, not the potatoes.)
It used to be on my dA. At some point, I got rid of all my 2k3 work, including Alter AILA stuff. Then at some other point, I also deleted everything on my dA. I'd be surprised if anyone even has it anymore.
Why did you delete everything? :o

So that I could move on from all of it. I knew I wasn't going to work on any of that stuff anymore, so for me, there wasn't any point in holding onto it.

I can't speak for the comic, but I have preserved the game on my PC's hard drive. Feel free to try it out.
