How was the Demo?

I recently got the first demo out for this game, which included 8 levels.

-How was it?
-What did you like about it?
-What didn't you like about it?
-How could I improve levels in the future?

Okay I gave this a whirl and I thought I would let you know what I think.

First off you need to put the contents of your game into a single folder and name it "Super Puzzle World" or something so that you can easily put it into the SMBX "worlds" folder.

Second thing is you left a save file in there... you'll want to get rid of that.
A couple of levels do not have music at all.
And some of the levels are a bit short.



Now onto the levels... in Alphabetical order.


- Battlefields - Basic SMB3 level.

- Ice Climbing - Interesting idea for a level but waaayyyy to short, I beat it in less than ten seconds.

- Obstacle Course - This lava / obstacle level was cool, very nice level design and it fit good with the music.

- Puzzle Plank - Some of the movements of the platforms were a bit stiff. Good use of the switches and what not. Not bad.

- Stack Attack - Interesting idea for a puzzle level. Again, way too short.

- Wild Climb - Basic level.

- Wooden Valley - Again basic SMB3 level, not much to say.

- Yoshi Hills - This level wasn't bad, however there is an unlimited 1up glitch if you stand on the pipes generating the enemy's.
Just played this.

yoshi hills

i killed the second batch of enemies after red shell, but the big spike didnt go down. on a second try it did work. that first time i killed a few without the flames, that's the only thing i did different.also, if you run with the flames they kill the enemies for the yellow spike, might want to figure a way to prevent that. also, for the fire, you should put something to prevent the hero from just going up and eating those enemies. put up a wall so that your actually forced to use the fireballs.

the spawning turtle shells give infinite lives in several ways, you can just jump on one and press nothing to keep bouncing on the next shell. when i respawned at the checkpoint, i threw a shell and it kept bounching back and forth and was giving 1ups. you should increase the spawn time or have them fall from the sky or something.

is that pipe supposed to strip me of my yoshi? because after i finish the level i still have yoshi.i went back in the level and was able to spawn a second yoshi?! must be a glitch, if im on yoshi it should spawn a 1up i believe. on my second run through, during the after goal sequence, the bomb did not spawn a fireball and the enemy/wall was still there. which, btw, looks weird when the wall blows up. because it happens on the far edge of the screen the moment the wall comes into view. on my first play through i was watching the fireball and it all happened so fast i didnt even see what was there(the wall) i just saw some smoke. maybe move the wall more to the left to let it come into view so i can actually understand what just happened

did you play test this as luigi? the part after the final goal doesnt work for him

puzzle plank

i dont like areas where its mostly no floor with tiny places for you to stand. after a few tries of trying to get past the area just after the yellow switch, i gave up. there's no visual marker to see what the highest point of the moving blocks are so its hard to make that jump.

for the part where you hit a block and it moves the platform to the right fast(the second platform), you should maybe put a time delay to make sure that the hero is standing on the platform as it moves. i almost fell off cause it starts moving while your in the air. the massive threat of death takes away from my enjoyment of the puzzle, that coupled with small moving platforms makes that a bad level, imo. imagine trying to beat this with 2players!

battle fields

where's the "abundant" bosses. i only saw one :P

obstacle course

good concept, too short and not visually exciting. it was kinda flat and boring. too easy.


wooden valley

you should block off all edges of the map so that mushrooms dont disappear offscreen. that's lame :/ its really short too


wild climb

no love for luigi :( why doesnt he get any new threads? did mario go shopping without him?


ice slidig

very annoying, i died about 10 times so far trying to get past the first set of spikes. what needs to happen here? am i supposed to bounce off the trampoline and make the gap? cause that's not happening for me. am i supposed to grab the trampoline mid-slide and let go of it while im in the air so that i hit the wall,fall, and bounce off it? i tried this method a few times but i never get the same amount of airtime on each try. that's another problem, i dont get the same speed/momentum on each try so its always different. am i supposed to stop my slide, throw the trampoline on the spikes and do a standing jump to cross?

oh, ok that time it seemed like i bounced off the trampoline, but i didnt make the gap and fell into the spikes.

finally made it. might have been what i was pressing, but that part caused me a lot of trouble. it cant be done if you dont get a running slide from the start. i tried a running slide after the first little jump but that doesnt exactly work. didnt enjoy that part at all but then again i didnt do exactly what the sign said, and only that. if a person just holds down on the first try and doesnt happen to get the right amount of speed they might try something different the second time and get frustrated like i did.

the part where the blue block moves up super fast seemed really jarring. and the after goal sequence again, didn't work right. i ended up standing on some spikes, walking into a wall.


The edits look good. Interesting choice to change the point values. I like the cloud-mobile. Some of these levels had no music and most of them were too short... but some people might prefer shorter levels. I don't.

I see you've both found some embarressing glitches! I've uploaded the Demo version download a bit.
How was it: It was great! I am waiting for the next version.
What did you like about it: The mapping is good, and the events used is nice. All the levels have some custom graphics.
What didn't you like about it: In one level it will not let you win due to a fall.
How could I improve levels in the future Level reviews:
Wild climb: A good use of custom graphics, and the cloud car is very nice. However, it is a bit easy.
Improvement: Add custom graphics for the fire suit.
Ice sliding: The first pit of spikes is unavoidable without the raccoon suit, and at the end you do not succeed in winning due to the lift suddenly disappearing forever.
Improvements: Shorten the first pit, and edit the lift so it is OFF at start.
Wooden valley: A bit short, but okay. However, with the checkpoint so close to a fire flower box, it is almost inevitable that they do not get the fire flower.
Improvement (and suggestion): Move the fire flower further away from the checkpoint. Also, I suggest that you hide an item in one of the boxes that the hammer thingies stand on.
Yoshi hills: A bit short.
Improvement: Make it longer.
Stack attack: The second room doesn't need the stones, as Mario/ Luigi can jump from the middle pipe and get to the top. The rest is good.
Improvement: As stated.
Puzzle plank: Okay.
Battle fields: The fourth tank falls apart. When you die in the boss area, you return to section 1.
Improvements: As stated.
Obstacle courses: Okay.
