Made using Super Mario Bros X.

Super Mario Vacation is the sort of Mario fangame I had always dreamed of making, but was never able to do so in the past since I only made level hacks for Super Mario World.

I've made quite a few of them over the years and accepted lots of criticisms about level design and such in the past. As a result, I try to make my levels as "Mario-esque" as possible!

There is one thing that I am doing which is against the norm, however. In Super Mario Vacation, everything of use is buried in the ground. All power-ups and such are buried like the vegetables in Mario 2. Of course, the vegetables are all there too. All levels are loaded with uprootable power-ups and veggies. Hope Mario's back is up to the challenge of all that pulling!

The levels are designed to have the simplicity of Super Mario Bros. but the challenge of Super Mario World.

Super Mario Vacation's story will be very barebones. Essentially, Mario and friends have gone on vacation to lands that neighbor the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser's minions have taken over the area however, so it's time for Mario to clear them out.

Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad may be used. Link is disabled because I want this to strictly be a Mario adventure.

Music is 100% custom and comes from several different Mario games such as Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Power Tennis, and Super Mario Sunshine.

I am aiming for a total of 59 stages scattered across 8 worlds.

Current Level Progress: 24 out of 59 completed as of July 17.

Playing Through World 1

Here's the World 1 of Super Mario Vacation. I didn't get all of the secrets and such as I played through it, just because I wanted at least some things to be left to be discovered.

Fraps didn't want to work with SMBX, and every other screen capture program I tried refused to record sound, so I just used my digital camcorder to record the gameplay. I didn't turn my speakers up too much either, so viewers may need to turn up their volume.

I need to lengthen World 1 a little bit since I blowed through it pretty quickly. Still, I recall Yoshi Island in SMW being able to be cleared in about the same length of time, so I may not need to lengthen anything too much.

This game looks like it'll be good! I like the mesh of all the Super Mario games combined. Normally levels are only designed with one palette. Subscribed!

The level design looks decent to nice so far - looking forward to checking it out.

I'll probably review this once I'm done playing. So far, I'd probably give it 3 to 3.5 stars - 3 if things stay about the same after world 1, 3.5 or more if the design gets a little more creative.

Edit: I was hoping there would be more than 1 world available, especially since you have 22 worlds completed. :(

I just threw out the first world to see how people felt about the level design and such. I'm not trying to be too bold or anything. I'm keeping it simple ala Mario.
