Future projects ( literally )

I think I've stalled enough with development on this game now, and now it's time for that final push to the finish line. I really want to have Enelysion done and dusted by late September at least. So I need to think about my future projects ( once Tristy is done and dusted, I'll need a new gam to work on ).

Now comes the question I want to pose to you guys. Should my next ( small ) game be sci-fi? I already have some amazing music at hand ( courtesy of the site where I got Enelysion and Tristian's music ) and since I won 3rd place over at RMW's Artsy Mapping contest ( tied with SnowOwl XD ), I'm thinking of getting either the Sci-fi Portraits/battlers ( it looks amazing; like seriously amazing )

Neato. I can already spot my new MC ( the chick with the dark blue hair ^^ ). My MCs are always female, btw.

or the actual Sci-Fi tileset by Celianna. I was thinking of choosing the portrait set, because getting art like that for a game is costly, and I can get that entire set of portraits for free as a prize. Tilesets are also a lot easier to come by than high-quality art.

So, yay or nay, guys? Should I take that set of awesome portraits? Or the actual tileset? Help me decide! ;_;

I would say getting the tileset is a better choice.
After all, you mentioned that you already had some amazing tracks right?

Not only that, public portraits gets overused easily with time (Man I wish I could draw). Its much better to draw them yourself. So in my opinion, go with the tileset. I've purchased it myself and I can say that it's worth the money if you know how to use them.

Though not a designer I'd be going with the tile-sets too. I've actually seen a few of those face-sets wandering around (including your potential MC) in other games. Whist that's not a deal breaker in any sense, you CAN draw, and you can do it well, so why use someone else's vision when you can portray your own?

Though looking forward to a futuristic tale from you, but don't get too excited about it just yet..finish Laine and Tristian's stories first :)

Nah, don't worry. I'll be sure to finish Enelysion within the next month or so ( busy wrapping up the last few plot-twiser scenes >:D ) but I can still work on the sci-fi gam in the meantime ( I've had some ideas sitting in my old journal since 2009 or so, lol ) when taking a break from old Tristy. That's how I roll. :D

Public portraits... yeah, I see what you mean. Amazing quality, but tends to be... er, overused. That's why I'm staying away from the DS+ Resource pack as well. Nice, but it just isn't me ( and the graphics are a mite overused too ).

Guess I will end up settling for Cel's awesome tileset.

You're magical to me.

I vote the portraits, as they look really great, and seeing the Phantasy Star-esce maps you've already made are, in my opinion, excellent already. But it's your choice :D

Best of luck with your eventual sci-fi game! I'm sure it'll be great ^__^
Why don't you draw(or make) the portraits yourself? Personally, I don't like to see facesets or portraits that have already been used a thousand times. I can't get into the story at all 'cause I've already seen these characters.

I vote for the tileset, I'm sure you will give them good use.
While it is true I can draw/sprite my own work, maybe it's better in the long term to settle for the tileset. Sci-Fi stuff like that is hard to come by as well. Sci-Fi in general, really. Explains the lack of those kind of RM games.

4000 DLs! *happy dance*

September can't come soon enough!

I would also vote for the tileset. Good scifi tiles are quite difficult to come by and they're time-consuming to make yourself and expensive to commission.
I'm getting pretty psyched myself. XD
"sci-fi game" "short game" Perhaps this should be the subject of RMN's next game contest if we haven't done this before?
I dunno if it has been done. Interesting idea, though. Would encourage most devs to get out of their medieval/fantasy comfort zone for JRPGs.

But I made my decision. I'm going for the Tileset. =)
YES SCI FI GO GO GO

And yeah I'd go for the tileset too, but then again I do all my own drawings (and if you can't, it's still easier to commission than tilesets)
Yeah, I got the tileset. XD Bit hard to work with in the beginning though. It's a must have for those who want to make sc-fi gams. :)

Awwww yissssssss muthaf*ckin scifi tiles. Loving that ambient cyan/blue vibe!

Hmmm, may want to move that lamp-post Yuna, it does make crossing the road problematic for pedestrians.

...yes, yes I know you were just playing with the tile-set :).

I need to mention that janussenpre won't be able to do the portraits for this game ( because it will push the release to as far back as March 2015 or even later and things are hotting up for FFD as well ), but he has agreed to help me with that future sci-fi project. =)

So yeah. As I promised, Vol I and II will be available by early October.

Oh, and I got Ace. ^^
I was going to say, I’m glad that you ultimately went with the tilesets in the end. Besides - you CAN draw your own portraits pretty well from what I’ve seen (plus you do have janussenpre on your side to help you when he’s available), so that’s not something that you need any more additional help with. I mean, if it was me, I’d probably go for the portraits, because I suck at drawing things in general, but whatever.

Oh, and congrats on finally nabbing a VX Ace and upgrading to the next level! Unlike making the jump from 2k3 to VX Ace, the transition process from VX to VX Ace probably isn’t so hard compared to the latter.
