This is the sequel to Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis. Please play it before starting this one. It can be found here: http://rpgmaker.net/games/272/

Alter A.I.L.A. Variant takes place in a modern world, 3 years after the events of Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis. 2 years ago, a great war came to a decisive conclusion thanks to the efforts of a small band of people. Peace should have followed, but there are those who would choose to continue fighting. This is the continuation of that story.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

Annnnnnnd we're done here.

Okay. This would be the... second time this whole thing has exploded. Man, with this much contraversy, I bet I could sell this game based on pure hate alone.

Instead, I guess I should say, AAV's cancelled. Haven't worked on it in almost a year now, and definitely don't got any plans to. If I ever do, I would probably scrap this whole game and make it in VX or something.

Buuuuuuut, that's not gonna happen, and it's not happening in 2k3 either as far as I can tell. In fact, I've already deleted all the tools I would need to make this with, so there's no turning back. I guess I better just take down that download, cause it is NOT doing the series any favors. Alright, it's gone now.

But yes, as you guys might've guessed, I've pretty much given up game-making and have moved on with my life. I still lurk here once in a while to see what's going on with some of my buds, but I really don't have much to say anymore other than cheap one-liners that would make Leon Scott Kennedy proud.

It's been a good run, guys. Thanks a lot to everyone who supported and defended my actions to naysayers. Thanks a little bit to naysayers who ensured that this series was never too long without drama or contraversy. Good luck to any of you still in the games race. As for me, I'm officially retired.

Dude can I take over the project?

Sorry man, don't think I'd be comfortable with that.
Dude can I take over the project?
Hey, as long as AAV keeps going, it's fine if we have to wait for a while. :)
No worries. If this plot can persist somehow, I'm happy.
Well I'll probably just post them as journal entries and anyone who wants to take a look can do so. That said, it might be a while. Ridiculously busy these days...
I would absolutely review that if you're still looking for people, Neok.
*rises from seat, and starts walking away, somberly* And thus, another great series falls... Wait, what's this I hear of a written version of the story? *rushes back to seat to hear more, wide-eyed and attentive*
I would! I used to review fanfiction before I got horribly depressed at how the quality was abysmal and no one listened to anything I had to say. I could probably catch typos, awkward wording and the like.
Well, here's an idea. I've been delving into writing fictional stories as of late, and may be up for trying my hand at writing up the second half of AAV, one chapter at a time. Would anyone be interested in reviewing something like that for grammar/story flow problems?
Hm...

Personally, though it's true that a summary is a poor substitute for a proper story, if our options are "plot summary" or "nothing at all", I'd honestly prefer to have a plot summary. Otherwise I'd probably be fretting over the unfinished story for a long time. :(

Perhaps we can do a vote. Who else says yes/no?
Dangit i loved this game
Funny thing, it'd actually be harder and take longer if I did the webcomic. Thanks, I appreciate the sentiment, but all the same, sorry. Not going to happen.
I am still holding out for the webcomic idea.

...Please, Neok? D: We love your story and would be very sad to see it remain incomplete!

Whats the original of "Fgt (3 Special) Ikitsuki Ikitsuki Daikitsuki - Bad Time ~Lover in the Rubber~" ?
Just love this music, but cant find where it from, google gives nothing to "Ikitsuki Ikitsuki Daikitsuki - Bad Time ~Lover in the Rubber~" :\

Found it here: http://music.nijinone.jp/sakuhin/list/-su.html
Except the link doesn't work anymore. Which sucks because I lost the full version of it and would really like to have it again.

(BTW how does the colors on monsters and bosses work? I thought X was vulnerable to SHO, since his name was yellow, only to find out I could only scratch him).

If I remember correctly from the helpfile, the colour of the text of enemy names represents their types. They may be robot, human, mutant, etc. It might apply differently to bosses with weakness-wise.

Pretty much this. Story-line bosses use their colored names, since they might have elemental str/weaknesses outside normal types.

Dragon Quest and...Roguelike (they do exist after all) and Etrian Odyssey fans beg to differ (Gosh that grinding). ;(

Etrian Odyssey is soooooo bad for grinding. Goddamn, and I still played the second one to completion. Never again.

Guess I'll make a blog entry to address the rest of this.
Oh christ, you guys.

Guess I got some reading to do...
That is why I say again, I never take demos seriously. But yeah, Ynot, you can still go feel free to criticize, no problem, but I think you've been too angry already. Just play another game, ya? Let's just wait until Neok actually replies. I think you already made your point. No point elaborating further until Neok actually reads it and replies.

And in regards to whether I like this demo? I can tell you, ynot, no, I don't. Which is why I'm hoping if Neok ever completes AAV, he can improve on the mechanics like you mention.

Also, ynot, nobody's actually pretending this game isn't as bad as it is. It's just your way of criticism. It isn't handled constructively. I just can't see why you don't understand this.

If that's a question that is also directed at me, I actually enjoyed the story so far from what I played. But then I had to stop because I couldn't take the dungeons any longer.

I only lasted to the point where
I finally recruited Celia after finding out she became a messiah-like figure.

AAV's intro did start off pretty strong to me in terms of premise, so I understand your concern about the massive shift in the story too. But I think this is his story and I haven't seen enough of it yet to actually judge whether I like it or not. I like the idea of Erin, Indy and Leon together and Indy's...complications.

However in terms of feedback, I don't think this territory is something anyone can just tread upon since he's the only one who knows his game's story the best and he has every right to write it the way he wants it to be.

We're not sure what's really going on yet. I don't think his premise went naive, in fact it's still as serious as the first one? IIRC the story even started as:

Leon found out that Indy is turning into another AILA and there is no cure known as of yet. And sooner or later she has to be disposed of. The doctor actually explained well but Indy did go berserk at that time and it wasn't one of those on the get go. It's been implied Leon has her checked up constantly out of worry and is aware of the dangers. But as a "father" he can't let Indy be disposed of.

Although my memory is really wonky right now.

If I remember correctly there's 2 races (well not really races but social standings and those who were caught up in the previous war etc.) that are against each other right now in Leon's home planet and Celia is leading them as a messiah-like figure and trying to keep the two "races" at peace. And that the last thing they were doing was going to retrieve Leon back after a "betrayal."

and something about a Jackal Project IIRC or it could be the AAG mix up in my memory.

Overall, I don't see how it went naive, if by anything it is still as dark and edgy as the old one.

Ynot, civility is not optional here.

Yeah, someone else already said that and it was as stupid then as it is now. I'm not restating myself for the benefit of you getting to pretend you're a cool head rather than a gormless apologist.

I've already gotten a warning in my mailbox so I suppose it's just a matter of time until I'm banned (in before durr good riddance that's what you get for hurting my feelings by criticizing a game I desperately want to like), but I'm not editing myself just so we can all pretend this game isn't as bad as it is. I doubt me stating my grievances will change anything, but at least this way nobody can tell me I didn't try.

Archela's the only one that's done anything but blithely defend the game with no arguments. I get that you think there's something to be salvaged here dude, but even the story, which does the least things wrong, is such an awkward tonal shift backed by such a painfully naive premise (see my Junior High allegory of the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings accusation earlier) that even that I suggest throwing out.

And for those of you saying THIS GAME IS STILL BETTER THAN NOTHING AT ALL, take a moment to think about that. Is it? Is it really? It's a game I doubt anybody has enjoyed, not even you, and it drags the legacy and canon of the older, better original through the mud.

Well, my time is running out so I'm gonna see if I can get this post up before I'm banned. I responded to the 'warning' mail in a less than groveling manner, you see. I leave you with this, an obvious question but one I still feel is puissant to all these arguments:

Did you genuinely enjoy anything about this game, or did you just REALLY REALLY want to?
