The XP sprites look really good. I'm worried about the contrast but I think it looks okay. Oh, and just as a tip: you shouldn't highlight every word of importance. The player can read!

Thank you! I decided the loss of contrast was worth access to character sets that match the battlers, better looking characters(imo), etc.

About the highlighting thing; I've always liked the highlighting to be honest! I was always a SUCKER for NAMES IN CAPITAL LETTERS in RPGS, and highlighting is kind of a pretty version of that. However, what I might do is add an option to turn the highlighting on-and-off. This should be easy to do; how glamorous it will be is another question. (it may end up un-highlighting the character names at the top of textboxes, which would probably look silly. I can think of a way around this however!)
The wall tile next to the stair looks a bit weird with the darkness at the bottom. I believe in TileA5/A3 there's a wall-looking tile which suits the stair tile well.
Well, that wall tile matches the floor tile above it, you see. Is this a better stair tile? I guess it matches better but it doesn't look much better imo.

Actually quite often this isn't the case. The player reads something and on occasion they will turn around and forget fives minutes later. Highlighting makes text important and it draws your eye to it. It's used very well in mainstream RPGs and I think it's a better method than repeating yourself 100 times...as long as you don't happen to erase that text colour box. Heh. :/

This was pretty much what I wanted with the coloured text. To be fair, sometimes there is a LOT of highlighting... but then I don't see how that's really a bad thing. Once again, I might just make it a choice thing.

Try using the matching tile here (right middle). It'll look more realistic than that fade-away tile, just post it in a spare spot. (Yeah I whipped these up because of this screen shot. Thanks for the inspiration ^.^)

Thanks, Liberty! It definitely looks better with proper edges.
