Date, create, and share!

Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?

In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!

You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.

The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

The game's official website is http://heartache101.3eeweb.com/. Check out the characters people have made!

I've been longing for this feature, too

No more shuffling files around when you want to play with specific custom content disabled. You can now turn off custom profiles and story in-game, provided they are organized within subdirectories.

From the help file:
New in v2.4 is the ability to select in-game which characters and stories are enabled through the "Custom Content" menu option accessible from the title screen. Only profiles and story files contained in subdirectories within the "Profiles" and "Story" directories can be disabled. Disabling a subdirectory forces the game to ignore all files contained within that subdirectory while the game is being played. (Story Test is unaffected)

Bear in mind that content can often have dependencies on other content such that disabling one subdirectory can effectively disable content not readily apparent contained in other subdirectories.

Disabling content does not prevent it from being read by the game on startup.

Also new in v2.4 is the percent chance condition, for adding a bit of randomness to your stories. Example:

STORY 87
Miki flipped a coin.
A: CHANCE 50
It was heads. She would go buy the drinks.
BRANCH A
It was tails. Drinks were on me.

From the help file:
The condition will have a percent chance of being met. Note that this is in addition to Priority adjustments and other factors that can affect a story's chance of being selected. A condition of CHANCE 50 does not mean that the story will be played 50% of the time! The percent chance is probably best used in conditional branching.

Some tips about the secret character can also be found on the comments page on the website.
(off-topic: Your avatar is my favorite char from that series)

Under the Layers menu there's some color tools. You can probably figure out how to change to the color you want by playing around with it, but if not, I bet Marrend would be willing to do it for you if you asked.

I cant figure it out I finally got color but it looked like a paint strand not hair -_-

can someone explain something to me Im trying to make a brunette custom character Im using gimp and the model file and I her look like I wanted but I cant figure out how to change the hair color from red

The way I change hair color is to first select the layer of the hair type that I'm using. Then, I use the right-mouse button to bring up a contextual menu (The so-called "right-click trick".), and select the "Colorfy" option. From there, I can set the RGB values, or whatever else is there, to values I can specify. Or use one of the default colors. "Brown" (That's the color I associate with the word "brunette", anyway.) is not one of those defaults, so it would behoove you to have an idea of where that color might lie. For reference purposes, the RGB value I used to make Shoko's hair brown was {106.47.0}.

Whaaat? But, but, RebeccaAshford seems willing to learn! But, yes, I could do it for her, if she asks.
Wow. I never expected custom content to be able to be made that easy, good work :)

Wait, three? LordNight's Midori is one. The secret built-in character, Chiemi, is another. Who's the third?

Kieron, do you know something that I do not?

Aren't Riho and Shihoko(or however you spell it) pink-haired?

And here I was, thinking Kieron had a character up his/her/whatever's sleeve! Disappointment!

Anyway, my first thought on seeing Riho was that she's a red-head. I mean, if one looks really closely, I think one might get a hint of pink. A similar story could probably be told of her elder sister, Shihoko, as well.

Never would of thought of that, nice observation.

And for some reason, this game really remind me of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ._.
Miki does seem like Haruhi. :P

And is it me or the zodiac signs are really on the spot?

Lol my sister is a virgo and she nags a lot like Miki. xD

Cool! I tried to assign zodiac signs based on the little I know (was able to research) of what they're supposed to mean.

I think you'll find that she is just a woman, they were made like that :>
I'm a woman and I don't nag like that. :$
