Assuming the role of a male high school student in Japan, the player will meet, interact with, and date a number of female characters with the goal of winding up with one of them at the end of a 101-day calendar. Yeah, you've seen this all before...or have you?
In other romance sims, there's little reason to replay the game again once you've pursued all the characters you're interested in. But Heartache 101 allows for a variable female cast. The number of characters in the game is completely open-ended!
You can create new characters and add them to the game, share them with other users, and add characters created by other users. You can create the images for custom characters from a template, or use images you created yourself, or images from any source. (only "standing" images of characters can be imported; there is no event CG in the game) A simple scripting language is provided for writing story events. You can also customize some of the music.
The game system itself is in part a visual novel interface with gameplay that include conversational decision-making, board game-like mechanics, stat management, financial management, and more.

No more shuffling files around when you want to play with specific custom content disabled. You can now turn off custom profiles and story in-game, provided they are organized within subdirectories.
From the help file:
New in v2.4 is the ability to select in-game which characters and stories are enabled through the "Custom Content" menu option accessible from the title screen. Only profiles and story files contained in subdirectories within the "Profiles" and "Story" directories can be disabled. Disabling a subdirectory forces the game to ignore all files contained within that subdirectory while the game is being played. (Story Test is unaffected)
Bear in mind that content can often have dependencies on other content such that disabling one subdirectory can effectively disable content not readily apparent contained in other subdirectories.
Disabling content does not prevent it from being read by the game on startup.

Also new in v2.4 is the percent chance condition, for adding a bit of randomness to your stories. Example:
STORY 87
Miki flipped a coin.
A: CHANCE 50
It was heads. She would go buy the drinks.
BRANCH A
It was tails. Drinks were on me.
From the help file:
The condition will have a percent chance of being met. Note that this is in addition to Priority adjustments and other factors that can affect a story's chance of being selected. A condition of CHANCE 50 does not mean that the story will be played 50% of the time! The percent chance is probably best used in conditional branching.

You speak as if this has never happened before. Though, from what I understand from elsewhere, editing an old download will not bump a game to the front page with RMN4.
^I suppose a good thing about this is that it might stop trolls from posting in the project thread. (Adon237's post wasn't all trollish, but still)
It was pretty good, from what I have played of it. But then I asked my self "Why am I playing a dating simulation game?" and stopped. I will not say anymore. Damn! I just bumped this game above mine again!
game is a lot of fun. havent finished it yet but i'm already hooked and am itching to keep playing. good job and keep up the good work.

A.K.A. Bumping or having someone bump your front page constantly for weeks on end! D:
And also, this seems to be the recent most popular game on the front page section.
A dating sim, no offense, but I just might take a break from RMN if this dating sim takes over. /end of conspiracy theory
Bumping to the first page of the games section is one thing, as any added content to a game page, be it comment, blog, image, or whatever, would do that. Bumping a game to the front page is an entirely different matter.
Perhaps this game getting bumped to the front page is what annoys some people, as this isn't necessarily a "new game to play" as the section on the front page suggests?Then again, it could be that people are peeved because their game doesn't have as many page views and/or downloads as this game. Just a theory, though.

Ichimaru isn't bumping this game like crazy. He posted that a week or two ago. No one person is bumping this game like crazy. Ironically, complaints about the game being bumped are themselves bumping the game.
Is it too much to ask that comments posted in this thread actually be about the game and not about the game's presence on the front page or top of the games section? Please?

How do you get the Akari encounter? I managed to get her once but now I can't figure out how I did it.

There are three ways to meet Akari (dark-haired girl):
Method 1 -- In a Miki event, for a set of two choices with the first being a Mind check, take the second choice. Later, there will be a choice with a Soul check in a Keika event. Take the first choice and pass the Soul check.
Method 2 -- In a Riho event, for a set of two choices with the first being an Athletics check, take the second choice. (you won't be able to get Riho's ending, however)
Method 3 -- In a Tsubasa event, for a set of two choices with the first being a Mind check, take the second choice. (you won't be able to get Tsubasa's ending, however)
Once you have gotten Akari's affection up a bit, there will eventually be two opportunities to meet Hinami (orange-haired girl).

Well, as far as I understand, the game stays in front page because flowerthief is constantly updating the game, which is a GOOD thing, so idk why the complaints.
Btw, I liked this game, played the 0.5 I think, I'm gonna wait for some more releases to play it again

I dont know what happend but i was talking to miki at the begging and well it was Story 1 of the intro story and i choose branch c it kept giving me affection down and well i cept hitting enter for a little and when it stoped it said next to her statu she diliked me and i really dont know what happend ran into the glitch but this game is awsome i love it
^ It sounds like you accidentally stumbled upon the cheat which decreases affection.
ALT + F6 decreases affection of the active speaker by 100 if the active speaker is one of the girls.
