The information below is for testers, but anyone with bug reports, suggestions, feature requests, etc is of course welcome to post here.


Thanks for offering to help test the game. I hope you enjoy playing it despite it's imperfect state! I'm eager to hear feedback and criticism on pretty much every aspect of the game, but especially the following:

1. Gameplay
I think this is the most important thing, because if the core gameplay isn't fun who will care that the characters can be customized? Testers, please play the game and tell me honestly what you think. What aspects are fun and what aspects could be more fun? How is the difficulty? What things would you do to improve it? Of course please report any bugs you encounter.

2. Customization
Please mess around with the customization features; there's bound to be plenty of bugs and issues I haven't considered. You don't need to create content you would ever share with others. Just play around and see if you can do the things you're supposed to be able to do. Try creating a character or two and writing a little bit of story for her. Again, what you write doesn't have to be anything serious, but see if things really work.

3. Story & writing
Please give me constructive criticism on the story and the writing for the built-in characters. What do you think of the characters? If there are bits that you think should be rewritten for any reason, please don't hesitate to tell me. I realize some of the story (including the premise) may be corny, so maybe you have suggestions on how it could be better? Of course also report any bad spelling or typos or anything else that's off.

4. Documentation
Is the help file which explains how to do all the customization stuff easy to read and easy to understand? Please tell me if any parts aren't clear. I want the customization process to be easy and fun as much as possible.

5. Any other suggestions you have!
Don't hold back. If you have something to say which could help me improve the game I want to hear it.

Well it seems that nobody yet has gotten a good ending (a non-generic ending). This tells me that it might be too difficult or maybe unfair?

A good ending requires:
1. The character is in a state of Love or Lovesick
2. You have completed her story route

Everyone seems to be doing well with the first requirement.
The second requirement is tricky because you have to make some correct choices along the way AND some of those choices require that you pass an attribute check. Attribute checks are in multiples of 10; either 20, 30, 40, or 50. (So if you get an attribute up to 50, you'll pass any checks involving it in story events)

I suppose the problem is that it's not clear what attribute checks are coming up for a given character. Also, with the longer stories, you might simply be running out of time to complete them.

For the next release I'm going to make it a little easier to pass attribute checks by making it easier to raise attributes. I might also add a means of getting in-game hints for characters.

I didn't intend to put out a new release so soon, but there really have been a sleugh of bug reports and changes in the last two days. Testers, please grab the new release (v0.4).

I should have mentioned this earlier but if you encounter a serious bug I'd be greatly appreciative if you can send me a save file prior to the bug's occurrence. The game autosaves each day during the status screen where you can spend orbs so you can use that file. There are a few bugs that have been reported now which I've not able to reproduce and seeing the save file could help me out a ton.

I can see myself tweaking this game and adding new features for awhile to come, or for as long as people are interested in it, but I'll stop calling it a beta when we get to the point where any new releases will not render saves and records incompatible. There are still a few changes I'm considering that could possibly do that.

Here's some of the ideas for new features in consideration:
- "mental notes" about a character can be reviewed
- generic event for walking to school together
- support for BxB (only if there is interest)
- support for dual character endings
- Mouse support
- additional mini-games

The top two of those will likely make it into the game in the near future.

The new version, among other things, finally fixes the "script is hanging" error which people with slow computer sometimes encounter after the ending before or during the credits roll. Well, I think I fixed it. If anyone still gets that error at the end of the game, please let me know! I don't have any older computers around the house with which to test it on.

On a more serious note, I've a person contacting me about an error about Masako having herself as a relation. Just to be on the safe side, I re-imported Masako's files (using the ZIP file, no less) into the proper directories. I obtained no error.

As far as I know, both myself and this person have the latest version of the game, and the latest version of Masako. Also, in both cases, Masako's files are exactly where they should be. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting something, though, as the messages I've been getting from this person are difficult to understand. I still have the messages, so if one needs a first-hand accounting...
^ That's very odd since Masako doesn't have a relation declared in her profile. I can't replicate the error either. Is it possible at all that he could be getting Masako confused with some other content? Right now I can't fathom how that error could be coming up for Masako. Ask him for the complete text of the error message.

This may already be obvious, but I should also mention that supplying a focus attribute means that the character won't load in versions of the game prior to the current version, but in that case you should get an error message to that effect.

Marrend: It might help me to know what, exactly, the error message is. Anyway, when extracting masako_heartache.zip, ensure that the target of the extraction is your Heartache directory. For example, on my laptop the target directory would be "C:\Games\RPGM\RPGMXP\Project\Heartache 101". Note that it would probably be different on your computer.

Alternatively, if the files have already been extracted (and it sounds like they are), ensure that the following files are in the following directories:

*masako_profile.txt in the Heartache/Profiles/Masako directory
*masako_story.txt in the Heatache/Story/Masako directory
*in the Heartache/Tachie/Masako directory, the following:

Animefangurl19: I have don all that. But when i start the game i get error saying. Character ID=10 in profiles file'masako_profile.text cannot have herself as a relation ID and the game disspear after that. What have i done wrong?

Marrend: Actually, you didn't do anything wrong! You probably just have an older version of the game. As an anecdote, an error like that was raised with another character (or, rather, a group of characters) of mine, but the bug was fixed with version 0.73 of the game. If you get the latest version of the game (0.74 as of this writing), you should be okay.

If you don't have Masako's ZIP file anymore, I would suggest making a back-up of her files, or the files of any other custom characters you may have, before doing the update. Then, after the game gets updated, you transfer Masako's files over to where they should be as outlined in the previous PM.

when i done all that. I start up Character Customizer v0.5 and open there Masako tachie is and when it come up in Character Customizer v0.5 i follow masako profile and done the extract the same thing in Character Customizer v0.5. And after that i savde it. And after that i open the game but tha get i a error there the sto' realition ID=10 and realition ID=10 cant be the same or what whas it again. Tha happen becuse it whas two realition ID=10. So did i do something wrong here?


If I understand the last message correctly, and I may not be, this person booted up Masako in the customizer app and over-wrote Masako's profile. Or, perhaps, re-made the profile using the app? Whatever the case, a 10 somehow got in the RELATION ID field. I'm going to attempt to double-check this myself in a moment.

*A "moment" later*
Well, over-writing Masako's profile doesn't do anything with her RELATION ID that I can tell. I still have the "old" app, so updating the app isn't the issue. If it wasn't a mistake made by "Animefangurl19" with the app, I would have to guess that Masako's profile was altered by "hand". Unless there's something else going on that I'm not aware of?
Okay, it sounds like she assigned Masako a relation as herself in the Character Customizer (which is actually possible--that's something I had better fix) and saved the changes. The faulty profile isn't going to load in the Customizer any more, so unfortunately she can't go back and clear the relation. The solution is for her to delete the Masako content and download it again. Or, you could send her just the profile file again so that she has the correct copy.

The issue lies in Masako's profile, so I doubt a re-download of the entire file is necessary. I'll send my copy of the profile over for comparative (or replacement) purposes, and explain our theories of how Masako got a RELATION ID to equal 10.

As part of play-testing Ruri, I noticed a few new board icons. My thoughts on them thus far:


"Starman" Free Move: The potential problem I'm seeing is that players might randomly decide to land on a square between an "up" arrow and the path that it would normally lead to. Then again, I only really used it to reach the end of the board, but there was nothing that suggests that I couldn't "land" outside the board, now that I think on it. Perhaps I should only really talk if I had an appropriate anecdote.

Bug Repellant: I didn't use this during my play-testing of Ruri, but it sounds incredibly useful. Spending two orbs to ignore one "Bug" sometimes isn't good enough, and sometimes the effect can last for days. This special effect is a way players can keep illness away, and allow orbs to be spent elsewhere.

Egg of Hatching: This is a neat idea, am I'm surprised nobody thought of it earlier.

Replenisher: I'm only seeing this being useful when a player is sent back 10 tiles via a Blast. Then again, as I never really used it in my play-testing of Ruri, I can't say how effective it is.

Back when I was playtesting Izumi, I wrote in "Masako/masako_profile.txt". There was two sequences that involved Masako, so it seemed appropriate to have that inclusion. The error message that was returned to me was that it could not find "masako_profile.txt". Despite the fact I told the system exactly where it was, and the directory of "Profiles\Masako" (Which should have been the first place it looked for) totally existed.

I attempted "masako_profile.txt" next. I got the same error message. Either this is because it was expecting the file to be found in "Profiles\Uchioniko" (As that was the last location that it checked because of "uchioniko_profile.txt".), or something else. Masako only worked when I used the "masako_profile.txt" reference, and the file was in the base directory.

Maybe my memory is a tad faulty on this, as it's been a while since any of this actually happened. However, I'm mostly sure I made a comment about this earlier, and part of this story is in the commentary of the story sequence where Masako would have made her first appearance. Granted, the game has underwent an update since I worked on Izumi's story. Not to mention that I removed Masako, and made Uchioniko a stand-alone. There is a possibility that this bug has been removed, and I'm just making myself look like an idiot. If the bug has not been removed, well...

Just noticing your post about the new icons now.
The Free Move effect only allows movement on the main horizontal level so that shouldn't be a problem. And there may still be a couple icons you haven't seen :)

That bug from when a file wasn't found unless it was in the base directory should have been fixed in v0.74.

Yep, the image uploader worked (nice tachie btw). This means that the problem must be either related to file type or file size. (The content uploader allows uploads of .zip or .rar of 10MB or less. The screenshot uploader allows uploads of images of 1MB or less)

I wonder if you could be hitting the 30 second limitation set by my host. Does it seem like 30 seconds go by before the upload fails? If you want, try zipping random stuff of various sizes and uploading it. I'll delete your experiments later.

I'm mostly sure it took me more than 30 seconds to upload Masako to the other site. Not that I was specifically timing myself, mind you.

According to the screen shot, dude was uploading "21 .zip". Maybe that's just how it looks to me. Perhaps it's just truncating "21 files.zip". Whatever the case, that's still a ZIP extension. Yet, he was still getting the error.
not even the super tiny bacon zip will go in, and that's only 86KB. 21 is only 4mbs so it can't be size that's the problem. For bacon, I got the error in about 10 seconds, 21 seems to take about a minute to load.

Side note: That tachie is the concept for spazhero's and mine collaboration that's on hiatus. While working on that, I got an idea on how to add more clothing stuffs, like bathing suits and whatnot. I really got to get back to work on my projects. Poor Riho only has half a bathing suit.
Hmm, maybe try .rar instead of .zip? So you don't get any specific error message when it fails, and the error console doesn't show any errors?

edit: btw, what's your technique for adding clothing to tachie?
for the one i uploaded i used real shirt and pants images and then played around with filters to give it that cartoon look. I used poster edges(gives it outline) and cutouts filters(shades in a cartoon color feel)

The technique I'm trying now for swimsuit is printing out the naked body and the school uniform (for the breast form) and tracing over them with the desired clothing. Once I'm done, I'm going to scan in the drawing and color it. If it works the way I hope, then it should be possible to come up with any clothing imaginable.

I got an interesting error message:
Script 'Ccoa's UMS' line 3084: TypeError occurred.
cannot convet Fixnum into String

Here's the situation:

I was testing both Emiko's tachie and what I could do with CONTINUE. I made up a mock story file with STORY 1 being an INTRODUCE event that eventually JUMPed to the Gym. Emiko makes a small comment, after which I use CONTINUE, then JUMPed into the Fashion Mall. The theory was that I could keep JUMPing into stat buff locations, and get the full benefits thereof. After a bit of testing, and reading the help file, that's not how the CONTINUE line works.

Anyway, using CONTINUE as the last statement in an event where the PLACE would normally cause a stat-buff should, well, cause a stat-buff. Instead I get this error message. I may try this test-story with a different character (or a no-graphic NPC) for the sake of testing. Even should Masako or 21 succeed where Emiko does not, I think we can safely call this a bug.

I think I saw a few CONTINUEs in some of Junko's DATING events. Not sure if that's an issue, as I managed to still land her custom ending without going on a date with her (It took quite a bit of doing!). Then again, this might be a moot point with this latest fix.

Hi, ok I was searching but I didn't find somebody with the same probleme here so i'm going to start...
After the creation of your character (name) I get an error message and it says:

Script 'Ccoa's UMS'line 3085:RGSSError occurred.
failed to create bitmap

How can I fix this? I have Windows 7 64bit

@Madotsuki: This is without custom content immediately after naming the player character?

I have my own suspicions about this, since I just got the newest version myself a moment ago.


*Edit: I highly doubt there's an issue with your OS, as that's what I'm running. Something else is happening. Though I'm not sure what.
