Hi, my name is Nero and my life sucks!

You would think with my turning 18 and everything I would be getting drunk and hooking up with hot babes, but no.

Instead I have become the village’s Courier, giving me the thrilling job of delivering shiny rocks to some city miles away.

Did I mention that my village is in the middle of a god forsaken forest filled with vicious monsters hungry for human flesh?

Wait, it gets better.

See while travailing though the woods I misplaced my sword, as one does while running for their lives! Fortunately I managed to find a sword logged deep in forest.

Lucky break hah? I thought so too, before I discovered that sword was some sort of mystic seal and by touching it I have released “Void”, the embodiment of darkness and nothingness, unto the world devouring everything in its path until it envelopes everything.

And guess who now has to stop it?

So now I have to journey around the continent with an angry Rune Knight who just seems to want to brutally kill everything, her ditzy younger sister, who for some reason outranks her, and a snarky mage who I don’t completely trust partially due to the fact he tried to kill us.

Plus, not only are we up against the essence of darkness we also have to deal with a mad undead sorcerer who thinks he’s a god, a cult of radicals who want to ban all magic and technology and the Darklords, the five most powerful, ruthless beings on the plant who 100 years ago nearly brought the world to its knees.

Sounds like fun.

Eternal – Return of the void, is an Indy, Non-profit JRPG made on RPG2003. Join Nero on his quest to try and defeat the embodiment of darkness and nothingness before its power can fall into the wrong hands... Or it just decides to wipe out everything itself first.

Now let’s take a page from my review’s handbook. And explain the game proper shall we.

Basics
Game Type: SNES era, Anime inspired, JRPG with metroidvainia elements
Length: N/A (Current demo 60-90 minutes)
Difficulty: Prepare to die.
Defining Phrase: Why Eternal? Why not?

Features
- Challenging battles: Prepare to die as even the lowliest random encounter will test you. Rage Quit insurance is provided.
- All in the open: Run, jump, climb, dynamite, hammer and hookshot your way as you explore a large open world.
- No pointless tutorials: No five hour Cutscenes explaining what the attack stat dose, everything is quick and to the point.
- The hunt is on: Turn a profit in taking on not only some of the toughest monsters in the world but some video game legends.
- Plenty of extras: Bonus boss, side quests, secret areas, item crafting, a gladiator arena and more.

Please note though, this game is still very much in development and thus a lot of these features are yet to be fully implemented.

Wait we’re still doing this?

Yes, yes I know I promised a while ago that I’d have something by now, but between life, gaming and procrastination I’ve achieved a lot less than I’d hoped for by now... A lot less.

Now I am still working on this so for the five of you who give a damn you don’t worry about that. But I know longer have no idea how long it’s going to take before the next update. So... yeah.

There has been some progress made however. I did finally manage to get myself a new jumping sprite. Behold:

This was originally made by KillerWolf with some light editing done by me. So thanks for that KW.

Souds fun!
Well...Despite all the nitpicking and what not, I've got to say I like the sound of this all so far!

I like the way you've described the story in the hero's words...I'm hoping there will be a lot more, you make it sound interesting :).

Also, RTP or not, I like the graphics style you've chosen. It sets it apart from all the SNES lookalikes around here. And yes people, it's going to look pixelated, it's on RM2k3!

Anyways, subscribed. Can't wait to see what you pull out here, I'm hoping to give it a thumbs up, myself.

My apologies.

After going over my game I’ve discovered a few bugs in the coding. In response I’ll be removing the existing demo until I get these problems fixed.
So while I’m at it I’ll also adjust the, rather unpleasant, difficulty of the first are to something more manageable as well as, hopefully, fixing the grammar and length.

The good news is I have more playtesters onboard now, which will hopefully result in a more polished Demo.

I should have the updated demo ready in about a week or two if all goes well.

Oh my god the battle music. I doubt I’ll do a review for this, but hopefully some feedback to come!

Note: This comment in no way guarantees you will ever receive feedback in any way shape or form.

The battle music how, good or bad? Sorry I’m not good at interpreting comments like that on the net, a simple "nice/sucks" will work.

That said if you do decide to do a review that should be great; you are one of my favorite reviewers here.
Soon as I start the game I get file system 3 cannot be opened - any help?

You do need RPG maker 2003 installed to get it to work. Other than that no idea, this hasn’t come up before.
Its installed ? Sorry This time I extracted it to the game folder rather than the computer - now all works fine !!

I just finished up on editing the demo. I really didn’t want to do it so soon or at all really, but with the new titles and stuff I thought it would be a waste not to include them in the demo. So I’ve upgraded the demo into Demo+, for lack of a better term.

For those of you who have already downloaded the game... I wouldn’t recommend downloading it again, since it’s the same as before, just with nicer pictures now and some small grammar checks. Unless of course, you really, really want too.
Played the demo, die in the forest immediately every time. Aside from that the maps are beautiful.

Yeah that forest is a bitch; I’m still working on the difficulty. If you haven’t found him yet there is a guy south of the village that gives you a bunch of healing herbs for beating some really weak enemies. You can also rest in Nero's shack. That should help.
I played through and it was good, but then couldnt open file villian during first video.

I'll have a look at that.

Right after i killed that dark orb thing and pulled out the sword. Then a video pops up of two men talking.
