Boy #16 Papasan96 ... not dead yet

It's been a while since I've updated this page so I just want to reassure people the the game is still in production. I've had some time to work on it this week so I've been implementing the random encounters and danger zones. As well as students you can only meet at certain times and places, some students you can encounter wandering around the island. Depending on your choice of character you may be able to recruit them as allies, or they may just attack you anyway.

For the danger zone system, you have a map which you can access at any time and which automatically updates as new danger zones appear. If you happen to walk into one of these zones...well, if you've seen the film or the read the book, you'll know what happens ^_^

I'm concentrating on just the character of Shuya at the moment so hopefully before too long I'll have a demo available. I've still got a lot of work left to do though... o_o

Weapons and stuff

I've finished the death cut scenes (and added three more images). I've been thinking about the weapons and armour players can find. As Avee suggested, at least some of them will have limited use (before they run out of ammo or break). I'm also going to have their location semi-random, so they are in a different place each time you play meaning you really have to search for them. So far, these are the weapons and armour I've come up with:
Weapons
wood axe
kendo sword
bamboo staff
kitchen knife
poker
sickle
shotgun
airgun
handgun
garedn fork
ramen cutter
box cutter
metal iron
samurai sword
cosplay sword

armour
motorcycle helmet
gardening gloves
kendo helmet
kendo breastplate
kendo gloves
baseball batter's helmet
baseball catcher's mask
ice hockey mask
police vest
cosplay shield
cycle helmet

(In case you think the cosplay stuff is weird, maybe one of the islanders was really into it...anyway, they'd break easily)
If anyone has any more suggested for weapons or armour that could conceivably be found on a normal Japanese island and town please post! Thanks ^_^

Death and memories

Now I've finished most of the map making I've been working on the more interesting stuff. I've been making death scenes for students that you don't save in time. You have the option when you start a new game whether to view these scenes or not. If you choose not to, you just get a message on screen every time a student is killed. Although the scenes are based on the book or movie, you can change the story by saving certain characters (or killing them earlier).

I also wanted to include flashbacks for the main characters in a way that would add more story but wouldn't get in the way. I'm thinking of having 3 or 4 objects for each character around various locations, and when you interact with them it activates a flashback and gives the player a new skill of some kind (as an incentive to hunt down and find these objects). For example, you can find a guitar in one abandoned house that reminds Shuya of playing illegal rock music at school. What do people think about this? And is there anything you think it'd be cool to incorporate into the game?

Prologue preview

I'll probably make a few changes to the final version (such as changing the windowskin) but here's the prologue:
