In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family’s history isn’t as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Did you like SSP and wanted more? Do you like reading??

Because of reasons, I've finally uploaded the sequel web novel, Ephemeral Prince to itch.io as an EPUB and a PDF. So, if you wanted to ever read Ephemeral Prince on your phone and not connected to the internet, now you can!

I figured this warrented a blog post, so I hope those who liked the game and liked the sequel will enjoy Ephemeral Prince on the go.

Maybe one day I'll make a game again, but today is not that day! Enjoy some old ass writing because it's like 10 years old! (which means SSP is older ugh)

One of the benefits of having a featured game, eh? ^^ Real hard to get though. I doubt it's randomly chosen. Congrats on busting through the 1K mark, Ron. It's a milestone I hope to reach too, one day. :D
thanks for i guide
i very like this game cause of its loneliness atmosphere.
There are many things I like about this game, but damn... was playing for almost an hour and it was pretty much all reading. That's not good. That's the same situation I encountered with Persona 4, despite how great that game is, I still couldn't get to my first fight cause of all the blah blah going on at first.

I mean no offense by my comments, like I said, you nailed many aspects that most people don't bother to work on, but the dialogue scenes need to be shrinked and you have to find a way to throw the player into action around 30 minutes in. Trust me, it will not make people put down the game and try it some other time, like I have.

"I don't know if the battle system will be fun, I don't know if it'll be worth playing after I have to read chunks of text on the beginning" -- This is pretty much the gist of it. :) Good luck dude.

@CharliesGabriel: I guess exploring the town/castle isn't actiony enough? (Because not counting the fairy tale prologue, there's like a quick talking and you can control Snowe! And take an hour to explore the town if you really wanted to!)

But, sure, let me just toss some phantoms in town for some random action and see how that goes! Oops, everyone in town is dead.

Sorry about that though, but I guess this just isn't the game for you! Good luck yourself!
@CharlesGabriel: I don't think those comments are very fair. If I recall correctly, I spoke to everyone, advanced the story and was in the forest getting in random battles in about 25-30 minutes. I don't know why it would take a full hour unless you're reading all the dialogue out loud or something. Also, if you really want to rush into the first dungeon, I believe most of the conversations with the citizens are optional, though you would miss out on some nice items by avoiding it.

I can't think of any dialogue bits in the game that need to be "shrinked" (shrunk may be the word you're looking for?), but the community has made it pretty clear that it's not much of an issue.

Nah, just chuck the optional boss in to the dream sequence. Don't rebalance or anything -- he's probably beatable then! 8D

And yeah, man, like... idk it takes me 10-ish minutes to get to the first dungeon without doing any optional stuff (AKA exploring and talking to NPCs). It's fair if you aren't into heavy cutscene stuff (not everyone is!), but like... well, if you're not, why are you playing a JRPG? XD They're usually cutscene heavy (well... unless you go for an NES style one, and there are a few of those around here I think?); it kinda comes with the territory nowadays!

@Hydlide: Thanks! :D I appreciate it.
I'm sorry Ronvoe, I'm having a difficult time with something.
In the part of the cave where you're suppose to fight the Phantom after you speak to his son, I'm having difficulty. It seems even after gathering the son together in my bag I still cannot seem to fight the Phantom again. Granted the son isn't shown in my items list (I don't know if he is suppose to or not), so I'm not sure if I'm just missing something or not.

By the way, fantastic game! I highly appreciate it's fantastic story, maps, and what not!

Catcat: You have to take the son to his dad. The Phantom isn't his dad. Go back to the guy who made fun of you for trying to get past the Phantom.

I'm glad you're liking it so far!
BUG REPORT (V.1.0 w/ RTP, might be outdated?)

Got to the tower for the first time. Pulled the first switch before trying to enter the door with candles over it. Entering the door caused the following:

Unable to find Graphics/Character/!Switch1

And a fatal crash.

Is my copy simply out of date?

edit: bug reliably duplicatable. Prevents all progress through the tower.
I really hate you...

I know it's not your fault, but I defeated the original King in the last battle.. and the game crashed. Tried again and crashed after I got the knife. I guess I'll never see the end of this game

Except for this, I've been amazed by this game. Great story, good fights, but poor puzzles. The only real challenge has been the optional boss, but I enjoyed the game very much.

I HATE YOU! :)
I think I'm nearly at the end now... and I have to say, you really did a great job!
The story is fascinating!
How did you get the idea for the story? It's just amazing...
Poor Prince Snowe...
I'm going to take the stars down now :)

kumada: maybe you should play version 2.0. That would fix your problems. You know, it's actually a wonderful idea to double check before posting things that you have the right updated version before assuming I'm letting an error-ridden version get past everyone! The fact is, THAT error has been fixed since 1.1! So I don't know why you didn't just check what version the game is on before posting.

superes: update your version! I don't know why people automatically assume that 2.0 doesn't fix all these stupid bugs! Really!

kuroshitsuji: thanks!
ronove, uh, wow. I'd forgotten rmn was like this sometimes.

Thanks for the snark.

Started it, loved it, a regular fairy tale, at least up to where I'm now (going to the tower).

kumada: sorry! Just make sure to double check the version number the game is on to make sure you don't get any errors. It works in both our favors! :)

chana: thank you! :)
That's okay. It really was my fault that I didn't check the game page before I reported the error. I just wasn't expecting to get ripped into about it. I'm sorry about that.

We good?

Of course we're good! *hugs* Maybe I should put in big bold words: DOWNLOAD V.2.0! It's as close to perfect as we're going to get at the moment! But there will be a V.2.1 at some point because there are a lot of little text errors I have to fix, but nothing broken!
10-4, chief. Downloading V2.0. Even with the fatal crash-bug, this game was fantastic. I can't wait to play more of it.
