Character-Specific Abilities

First off, I'd like to start out by mentioning that I'd written a decent amount for this blog entry, but my browser decided it'd be the perfect time to crash, so I lost everything I'd written. I was more than a little disgruntled, so this may or may not include everything I'd had in the original hahaha.

As per a few requests that I've received in the past, I thought it best to create abilities that would be original and only obtainable by a specific character. This will help to diversify the cast even further, and hopefully produce a more enjoyable experience as a result.

Due to RPG Maker 2000's limited options compared to 2003's, the pool of interesting effects you can create with the basics (not implementing any event-based skills, etc.) is a tad restricting. Taking into consideration the status effects and such already utilized by the default spell list, creating some new and UNIQUE abilities becomes a challenge. Not only do I want these skills to stand out, I want them to be utilized throughout the entire game and never degrade all that much in usefulness regardless of the other spells and abilities a character may learn.

Here's what I've come up with so far. If you've any knowledge on RPG Maker 2000's systems or even have any interesting ideas floating through your head, feel free to leave a comment! I'm always open to taking other people's opinions into consideration.

Tackle: Weak physical attack with chance of stunning/distracting an enemy.

Royal Beatdown: Physical attack with chance of inflicting the Bleeding ailment.

Piercing Blow: An attack that bypasses an enemy's DEF stat.

LIFA
Gift of Mana: Restores another character's MP by 20.

Corrosion: Slightly damages an enemy and inflicts the "Corrosion" ailment (lowers an enemy's HP by 5%+2 each turn).

Bad Breath: Has the chance to inflict Poison, Darkness, Confusion, and Petrification on the enemy party.

YOOR
Resurrection: Revives a single character with 100% HP.

Piercing Light: Deals moderate damage to Demon and Zombie-type enemies. (Single).

Since I'm involved in the game team anyway, I've sent my comments in a private message, to keep this stuff behind the scenes a bit longer.
ALRIGHTY, so here's the official list of character-specific abilities that I finalized earlier today.

Lifa has Bad Breath? O_o;

After some burritos, maybe. But nah, seriously, she seems like the rebellious type, so it's kind of fitting.

Great, now I'm thinking about Lifa chasing enemies away with her burps.
I'd suggest maybe changing the name of Bad Breath to Curse or Hex. Bad Breath is pretty strongly tied to Final Fantasy, and Lifa does demonstrate some familiarity with curses in the course of the game. Plus, her breath is probably better than Sando's at least.
She might be a princess, but she's a HUGE fan of garlic, doritos, strong cheeses, and basically anything that'd result in her breath being able to melt solid rock.

But yeah, I've gone and changed her "Bad Breath" skill to "Curse."

Oh, and Celes learns her unique abilities by using the relic's blessings on herself, as she would any skill scroll. Sando gains his via levelling, and Lifa and Yoor's can be found out in the world.
