In Vagabond, you control a young member of the Adventurer's Guild who often travels far beyond what is considered, well, reasonable. This time, our hero has stumbled upon a land called Granti, which is home to seven unique "Zones" that each have different characteristics and creatures wandering about. Granti is not your average ordinary land, though, as it is cursed. To return home, the "vagabond" must navigate through each zone to defeat a powerful monster in each one. The journey doesn't have to be made alone, however.

Accompanying our hero is a curious monster who shows a strange affection to people. This monster, who is at first just a lowly slime, can change its form throughout the course of the journey with the help of a few sages scattered across the land. But, will the vagabond and the monster be strong enough to defeat all of the fiends and save Granti from its impending doom? Only you can decide.

Gameplay

1. Challenging battles that are initiated by enemy touch on the overworld. Sometimes the smart thing is to avoid them when you can!

2. Open-ended, non-linear gameplay where you can explore almost any zone not too long after the starting point.

3. A heavy focus on exploration. Even more so than battles, exploration will be the most rewarding aspect of this game.

4. An "Augment" system where you can "equip" spells and other effects to use in battle, but at the cost of certain stats.

5. Non-traditional growth mechanics! These involve using special stones that you can buy from the menu and fighting optional bosses to grow stronger and learn new skills.

6. Transform your monster! At certain points throughout the game(if you can find them), you can choose certain options that will transform your loyal pet into different forms as well as grant some special effects to it. There will be over 40 different kinds of possible monsters that your beast can transform into.

Update! Both game-wise and life-wise.

I've decided to release a little update for Vagabond, adding something I've wanted to add for a while. Here are the changes this update brings:

- Various typos and errors have been corrected.
- Because I'm such a nice guy, you can now save just before the optional Venia fight during the monster arena.
- Credits, taken verbatim from the text file included with the game, have been added to the ending screen in the form of scrolling text.
- This is the big one: I've added back in the cut dungeon that acted as the game's final dungeon in the beta. The dungeon is now optional, however, and can be accessed once Venia is defeated(look for her in the final area). Completing the dungeon, which is no easy feat according to the testers, will unlock a more powerful version of the final boss as well as a secret scene in the ending. The rest of the story and gameplay remains the same.

So that's the 2.3 update for Vagabond, but what's been happening in my life? Why haven't I been at all active(besides lurking)?

Well, in late 2014 I had a bad bout of depression. I dropped out of my college classes and later quit my job. After the new year I was starting to feel a bit better, but felt stuck in the dingy, bible belt town I grew up in. So after a lot of hesitation but eventually support from my sister and my mom, who was fighting cancer, I left the nest to move to a big city.

I was too focused on adjusting to life in my new place to worry about game making. New job, new hobbies, new friends... Then in February, I moved back to my hometown to help take care of my mom, whose cancer had gotten worse despite fighting so hard. I figured, once she got out of the hospital, she'd need me around more than ever.

Well... She didn't make it. She died in April of 2016. It's been hard, and my family and I are all still healing. Since then, life hasn't been getting much better. I've been living with my dad, which isn't ideal for many reasons, and my depression has come back too. I can't be depressed forever, though, so I'm going to try and do something again that I've had a hard time with lately: create. Starting with this small update to a game already completed, to hopefully many more projects in the future. Basically what I'm trying to say is, I'm back. Hopefully.

Welp, thanks for taking the time to read this, and enjoy the new Vagabond update if you decide to play it.

OK, then ... I thought I had obtained the
thief pass
from an earlier EDIT: chest, but when I was asked whether I had it, it was NOT in my inventory ... I even remember seeing the icon onscreen earlier ...

EDIT:

I went back to an old save and reobtained it. Instead of exploring after getting it and went straight to where I was asked whether I had it and now I did. It seems that somehow it did disappear from my inventory in my earlier play. I'll let you know what I find out ...

EDIT 2:

I went ahead and progressed as I had before. After all that, I finally got into the
thieves' hideout.

Something strange must have happened in my earlier playthrough ...
I had the same problem so I just teleported out of the room. If you go in again it repeats.

I used to be real big on aldorlea games is it?
Alright, I've uploaded a new version.

Everything should be fixed now...However, if you lost the thief pass in your save file you might have to fix it yourself in the editor or allow me to fix it.

Sorry for my lack of computer knowledge but is this new version compatible with the save file of the first? I D/L the new one and tried to blend the two but either it isnt compatible or I am not doing it right. I am at the boss and dont really want to re-do the entire thing. But then again, is there anything in this new I cant live without?

It should be compatible. Don't blend the files together, though.

Just copy pasta your save file from one to the other.

It worked....thanks! That swamp boss (the third one) is tough. I have tried a combo of all my available buffs but am beginning to think a large part in this one is luck.
Also am enjoying the game although there is a LOT of walking around and if it werent for the Gate Orb it would be daunting and plain time-consuming. Is it me or does it seem every 2-3 battles its time go heal up but you havent made enough money or found enough drops to really buy anything. And since once the monsters are gone they dont respawn, it seems a matter of diminishing returns. Eventually all the monsters will be killed in the area but when you fight the boss you are stuck with what you have. Even so I am looking to the next part of the game.
Yeah you do have to rest every two to three battles. Thats why I killed every bad guy to get money, but mainly for the chance of stat upgrades. Im pretty sure bad guys do regenerate in some areas. I havent played the newest version here yet, but remember that I thought guys appeared again in some places. Maybe Im wrong. Also for the swamp boss I think my best pet was the Viper. I believe he has a move like constrict that can make enemies and boss unable to attack. Other wise save up for heals, and not herbs, use them out of battle.
One thing I saw while exploring the game was that some parts of the rivers would blink white.
They almost look like small white boxes, before disappearing. Odd little mapping bug.

Everyone seems to be seeing these things except for me. I'll look into it a little bit more, though.
I went into the editter to create a quick picture of it:

The small white box next the the lake.
Can I write a review about this? :)

I think I fixed it. (finally...)
How's things going with this game, Zeuzio? Making new regions, etc., or balancing some enemies? If I can help in any way, just let me know.

Currently making the zones yeah(I'm on Zone 6 atm). I haven't bothered with enemies for a while. Though I haven't done much of anything these past few days though...perhaps I'll remedy that tonight.
Sounds great, man. Keep it up. This game is a gem in the making :)
I saw the "Lets Try" video on this. Yeah, I know, a bit lazy, but I find less and less time to actually play demos anymore (and so I just sample what I can, however way I can, and hope for the completed version). Overall, I think the layout is pretty decent (from resources, to how they are used, and to the overall feel of the game). The beginning portion where you need to decide what fascinates you, it'd be nice to know how those effect your character (if they effect the character at all).

In short, this seems like a pretty decent game for Ace, and I'll definitely grab a final version when (and if) it's made.
