A lone wanderer,
A curiously protective monster,
And a mysterious land caught in the clutches of darkness.

In Vagabond, you control a young member of the Adventurer's Guild who often travels far beyond what is considered, well, reasonable. This time, our hero has stumbled upon a land called Granti, which is home to seven unique "Zones" that each have different characteristics and creatures wandering about. Granti is not your average ordinary land, though, as it is cursed. To return home, the "vagabond" must navigate through each zone to defeat a powerful monster in each one. The journey doesn't have to be made alone, however.
Accompanying our hero is a curious monster who shows a strange affection to people. This monster, who is at first just a lowly slime, can change its form throughout the course of the journey with the help of a few sages scattered across the land. But, will the vagabond and the monster be strong enough to defeat all of the fiends and save Granti from its impending doom? Only you can decide.
Gameplay
1. Challenging battles that are initiated by enemy touch on the overworld. Sometimes the smart thing is to avoid them when you can!
2. Open-ended, non-linear gameplay where you can explore almost any zone not too long after the starting point.
3. A heavy focus on exploration. Even more so than battles, exploration will be the most rewarding aspect of this game.
4. An "Augment" system where you can "equip" spells and other effects to use in battle, but at the cost of certain stats.
5. Non-traditional growth mechanics! These involve using special stones that you can buy from the menu and fighting optional bosses to grow stronger and learn new skills.
6. Transform your monster! At certain points throughout the game(if you can find them), you can choose certain options that will transform your loyal pet into different forms as well as grant some special effects to it. There will be over 40 different kinds of possible monsters that your beast can transform into.

Vagabond's one month anniversary update!
Without RTP:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4075/
With RTP:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4152/
"Another update already!?" I'm sure you're asking. Well, yes. But it's a big one! It's also for Vagabond's one month anniversary after being released! It's a culmination of all the helpful feedback I've received. If you've skipped some of the previous versions, now is the time to update. It will also likely be the last update for quite a while, so don't worry about that! So what does this new version contain?
~Version 2.0 Improvements~
TP System Overhaul: I can't count the number of times people have complained about the default method of setting a random amount for TP every battle. And quite frankly, I didn't like it either. Fortunately, I found a script by Elise_Chan from the RMW forums which allows more control over TP. Now TP will be set to 10 at the start of every battle. Hopefully that will make everyone who didn't like the TP system at least a little happier.
Skill Cost Madness: Some of the MP and TP costs for skills were just a bit to high to be useful. Some skills even had costs for both without the player knowing(by accident). The costs of many skills have been lowered, and any hidden MP costs have been removed.
No Evasion: Vagabond was meant to have no evasion for attacks, meaning no misses(unless certain skills are used). I applied this for enemies, removing all of their evasion, but forgot to do the same for the player's characters. Now the player's characters' evasion is at 0, like the enemies'. Sorry for those who liked the random strokes of luck!
Map Hi-jinks: The map that was posted on this site and the one in-game wasn't exactly accurate. It was drawn before many of the zones were even completed, after all! The map has now been updated to better portray the actual geography of the areas.
~More Thanks~
I already thanked Scinaya and Indrah in my last blog post for their awesome fanart and review, respectively. There are more people that I need to thank, however.
Bigtime, for being the one tester that actually came through. Most of my testers kind of just...quit, some without even telling me. Bigtime was about the only one who actually helped me at all. So, thank you!
Karsuman, for providing crucial feedback for one of the game's earliest versions. It was his advice that really helped the game improve to what it's become now. It will also help me as I dive into my next game! Thanks Karsu, and I hope you keep playing!
NicoB, for his hilarious Let's Try videos. 'Nuff said. I just hope he continues them soon! The game has improved so much since then, haha.
The players of Vagabond, for well, playing it! Seriously, I was not expecting this game to be as popular as it is. You guys rock, whether you like the game or not!
Welp, that's about it for this update. Thanks for reading this and stuff! Have a great New Year!

I made this video in a hour today to show someone the Gates song from Vagabond...
Thought you would like to see it xD I should have done a better job, but alas!
Thought you would like to see it xD I should have done a better job, but alas!
I finished it!
Oh man, the bad ending xD I thought at first you had to try to defeat your companion when it gives you the chance to attack. I held back when I played... But, it seems it forces you to stop attacking :P
Loaded back to the last sage, and yep! That did the trick D:
My hero is really a busy guy, sorry Izzy, I gotta go home now... Bye...
*tug tug* *weep weep*
Sorry! Bye bye!
... What becomes of the hero is quite unique though. Well played D: Even if you would have given the player a chance to try to escape, if you're lost, it's only a matter of time before the ground crumbles beneath you D:
*ahem* I got the good ending first...
I thought you were going to put me in a hard place for a minute, making me fight my companion... That would have been an interesting final battle, but awful! :P I imagined you'd defeat Izzy and then end up under the curse or under his control...
But, Elnia is amazingly strong.
I could keep rattling on for a while... but let me keep it short and say, the quality of the game was great all the way through. Even the story caught me by surprise...
Oh, Elnia...
I think I would have told her parents though. They probably would have liked to know all about what she did, how she saved all those people that they saw appear; including the hero. Alas!
One last bug report, this time in the dialogue :
In the final lines, "I'll never forgot the time we spent together."
I watched the end again to make sure.... It says, I'll never forgot the time we speant together." Instead of I'll never >forget< the time we spent together.
Oh and there was one other line, could be intended; after defeating the Demon XOKTOR (hopefully I spelled his name right... I always avoid saying names... bad with them...), he says something like "We could have ruled the world together <insertyournamehere>"
There's no period at the end of that line I believe..., I don't recall seeing any other lines that have no punctuation at the end, so just reporting that in case.
And that... is the end of my journey into Vagabond... (for now)
If you ever make another game? I hope to play it too!
PS. I got the Awesome Badge >;D That was a rough battle...

Haha, those are everyone's hardest bosses...and Venia...*laughs maniacally*
Yes, the arena is...there for this purpose. :D
YES. Although that was not an inspiration. :P
There are a few lines that change, yes. It's pretty minor, though. The bad ending has the most variation there.
I'm glad you enjoyed everything. :D
The battle gameplay was really tense and quite fun. It was tough for my party! Especially, since I tried to avoid resting too often...
The toughest battles were :
The marsh fiend, the dark werewolf area fiend, and the shapeshifter of the crystal cave. The fiends killed me at least a few times..., and the shapeshifter was a constant life or death struggle the entire time. Because, my character and companion were both magic users!
Oh! That's right, she ran out of magic. ...... lol That might be a bug...?
Haha, those are everyone's hardest bosses...and Venia...*laughs maniacally*
The gameplay completely changed after I went to the jungle however... I guess I can only blame myself, but up until that point, the battles were taxing on my party; had to keep focused. But, after spending a hour or two at the monster battles... xD I turned over a new leaf. I ran around one-shotting most of the tree area, and had to hold back during the fiend to give him a chance to fight back xD
Yes, the arena is...there for this purpose. :D
My character chose : Male -> Magic -> Family, and became a sorcerer. (Have you played Lunar?? Because I felt like I was playing Ghaleon with the skills I was getting ;D I lovedddd it lol)
YES. Although that was not an inspiration. :P
I am curious to see if dialogue changes if I start a new game and choose revenge, if my happy-go-lucky attitude becomes something darker...

As for the mapping... Great job!!! It's really very well put together, and a pleasure to run around the world. I'm not sure which area would be my favorite... The Dark Plains were pretty fun... The lake area actually felt like hte smallest of the areas, since there was no extra areas outside the dungeon. The lake was nice though...
Great music. Nice choices. I love listening to the Wall safe area theme. In fact, I'm listening to it while I write this ;D
As for the story : It turned out to be quite interesting, though I still consider it limited... More along the lines with how much story you get out of a game like Zelda : Link to the Past. I'm interested to see how it all ends!
I'm glad you enjoyed everything. :D
I'm about to enter the tower! Close to finishing the game...
I've really enjoyed Vagabond, though I wish there was some interaction between your companion and yourself~ I've been thinking that the game reminds me of Final Fantasy Legend's spirit somehow... But, can't quite put it into words...
Anyway! Here are a few strange things I encountered :
When rescuing your companion from the case of the werewolf's curse, when they rejoined my party, it left a duplicate of my companion facing to the right, where I talked to them. It's minor, and it goes away after leaving the room.
After defeating the fiend of that dark werewolf area, there's a cave which leads to the jungle, where you can pick up a bottle for magic water. If you go into the cave after beating the fiend, but leave and go back to the dark field, the music, lighting and cave dripping sounds continue while walking around outside.
On that same note, in the jungle festival bar place, after defeating the fiend; if you enter from the top of the bar, it will be dark and raining inside D:
In the expert Monster Tournament, the Iron Giant, the 11th monster you fight has never hit me even once! I don't know if my monster is just immune to his attack type or what... Made my life easier though :P
At that point my monster Izzy, chose :
I took damage from melee attacks by the Vampire and Angel.
After the flashback cutscene with Eliza the sage in the jungle, your companion is on top of your character D:
Oh, and THIS HAS to be a bug
He should say, "Your monster looks pa..."
*gulp* xD
"Not a critter!"
Oh, wish there was a way to rename my companion later in the game...
Izzy was the name I chose for the Slime... Who knew "she" would end up being a lovely Harpy D: Izzy, doesn't quite cut it later on!
Roleplaying, I thought about calling Izzy, Eliza... And then lo and behold, I run into the last sage, her name Eliza! (Izzy ... Lizzy ... Eliza)
Would be a fitting tribute to the Sages sacrifices if I named her that...

I played Vagabond 1.1 demo earlier today and finished it! I immediately went online to see if a full version was out... and YES!
It sounds like it is safe to copy the old 1.1 demo saves to the new one?
I copied them over, and then went and re-beat the swamp boss (my third fiend), it still gives me the "Technically you've reached the end of the demo" message... A little worried about that! But, it seems like I can proceed into the other areas now~
Anyway, nice work on this... That personalization in the beginning and the not-too-serious dialogue kept me moving right along.
When I reached the first sage though, with their banter I realized the limitations of this game: it wasn't going to end up too large or deep of a story, but on the other hand, it's focused, and it's fun to wander around seeing the world (and look for upgrades for Izzy! ... A sorcerer... and his Dove... D:)
Now, back to the game! :D

This is a pretty fun game, but I seem to have run into a gamebreaking bug...
I made it to the shapeshifter in the crystal caverns, but she was way to strong for me so I used my gate orb and decided to grind some money elsewhere.
The problem is I left one of the furnace orbs on the pillar in the room to the right of the three pillars, and now there is a lake in my way so I can't get back across.
Hmmm, yeah. I can see what you're talking about. I'll shoot you a PM and we'll see if we can get this fixed. I feel stupid not seeing this problem occurring before. >_<

Playing this game during a work travel where I have little to do in the evening, so I'm playin' a lot. This game is pretty easy (the first time I had to re-play was on the Nocturnal plains foe) but it gives you a good freedom feeling, that's not bad. My viper is getting stronger (but not changing lately) and normal encounters are truly a breeze. In the ice cave now... a little brain to put in, it seems! ;)
Enjoyable.
Yeah, this game is pretty easy haha. Though when it was just a demo everyone thought it was really hard haha. The freedom to explore was kind of the goal, so I'm glad you noticed it! Thanks for playing, and it's great that you actually like it! XD

Very nice game.
Well balanced neatly done!
Love it!!!
Especially the battle with venia. That battle was awesome.
It's, uh, less balanced than you know. :P
Venia was a mixed bag. Some people liked it, and others hated the first 11 battles before her. I can't really blame them!
By the way what is that badge i recieved after the battle.
It is whithin the key items but seems to have no use?
It's just a trophy sort of thing with no other purpose. The more practical reward was the boatloads of Gold and VP afterwards. Still, who doesn't want an "Awesome Badge"? ;)
I managed to to get the behemoth companion beefed up to 700+ attack power!
Really cool along with the druid attributes of the main caracter.
:D
Will there be a sequel for this game?
Anyways thx for this wonderfull game.
......................maybe..........
I mean, thank you for playing and stuff!
Very nice game.
Well balanced neatly done!
Love it!!!
Especially the battle with venia. That battle was awesome.

In the ice cave now... a little brain to put in, it seems! ;)
Enjoyable.

author=RoyLol, I no the feeling. I just hate puzzles though. The ice one is very nicely done though. Zeuzio needs to start making another game already, instead of reading this...:)
I am still stuck in that damned ice cave.
author=wildwesauthor=ZeuzioGaahhh.... Thank god. I can continue the game. I thought I was gonna be stuck there forever.author=horrorUse the Gate Orb Item, the one that you got from the guard at South Gate. It's in the Key Items section. There's one other warp point where you'll have to do this as well.
Stuck. Went to the Gorgoral (sp?) swamp, and a character told me about a secret path to the Lonely Forest. Found the secret path into the Lonely Forest and defeated one of the fiends there. Now I cannot get back out of the Lonely Forest and back into the swamp. Help.
In hindsight, I probably should have put an Explorer's Tips sign there or something. XD
That was originally going to be the place where you find the Gate Orb, which is why it's set up as it is.

Ive been in and out of that damn place 4-5 times and seem to be running around in circles. I get the impression I have missed something obvious. I want to get through it so I can continue on with the game. I have set the orb in all the places that I can see and killed all the critters...at least the ones I can find.
Seems others have been having troubles with it.

It seems like many people get stuck at the Crystal Cavern, haha. But yeah, I need to know what part you're at before I can help.

Just started playing, but I have to get this off my chest: The kerning of your "m" character is horrible. It looks like an entire space. Is there a way to fix that?
I'm...not sure what you mean by this, and no one has mentioned this before. Can you maybe show me a screenshot of what you're talking about? Sorry, I'm just dumb, haha.
EDIT: Okay, I just started up the game, and I think I see what you mean. I don't think there's a fix unless I change the font itself. That doesn't seem really worth it though, since I have never even noticed it until now and no one else has complained about it.
E: Owl and Alchemist, going attack style Alchemist.
Nice! Alchemist's definitely benefit from ATK buffs, as I mentioned before.
Holy cow is Stephan absurdly difficult. The battle was going well when he did over half the health of both my guys in one shot.
Stephan starts casting Eruption randomly after half of his health is gone. Obviously this hurts, but if you attack hard with one character and heal hard with another, that should probably do the trick. Also, the bosses get harder...mwahaha.
If all else fails, though, you could always explore around a bit. There are a lot of things to find in other zones that don't require any fighting.
