Update! Both game-wise and life-wise.

I've decided to release a little update for Vagabond, adding something I've wanted to add for a while. Here are the changes this update brings:

- Various typos and errors have been corrected.
- Because I'm such a nice guy, you can now save just before the optional Venia fight during the monster arena.
- Credits, taken verbatim from the text file included with the game, have been added to the ending screen in the form of scrolling text.
- This is the big one: I've added back in the cut dungeon that acted as the game's final dungeon in the beta. The dungeon is now optional, however, and can be accessed once Venia is defeated(look for her in the final area). Completing the dungeon, which is no easy feat according to the testers, will unlock a more powerful version of the final boss as well as a secret scene in the ending. The rest of the story and gameplay remains the same.

So that's the 2.3 update for Vagabond, but what's been happening in my life? Why haven't I been at all active(besides lurking)?

Well, in late 2014 I had a bad bout of depression. I dropped out of my college classes and later quit my job. After the new year I was starting to feel a bit better, but felt stuck in the dingy, bible belt town I grew up in. So after a lot of hesitation but eventually support from my sister and my mom, who was fighting cancer, I left the nest to move to a big city.

I was too focused on adjusting to life in my new place to worry about game making. New job, new hobbies, new friends... Then in February, I moved back to my hometown to help take care of my mom, whose cancer had gotten worse despite fighting so hard. I figured, once she got out of the hospital, she'd need me around more than ever.

Well... She didn't make it. She died in April of 2016. It's been hard, and my family and I are all still healing. Since then, life hasn't been getting much better. I've been living with my dad, which isn't ideal for many reasons, and my depression has come back too. I can't be depressed forever, though, so I'm going to try and do something again that I've had a hard time with lately: create. Starting with this small update to a game already completed, to hopefully many more projects in the future. Basically what I'm trying to say is, I'm back. Hopefully.

Welp, thanks for taking the time to read this, and enjoy the new Vagabond update if you decide to play it.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...buuut...

Welp, last March, someone decided they liked my game so much that they simply changed the title and hosted it on another site, claiming it as theirs. Fun, right? So for basically the last 24 hours, I've been chatting with the good people at Game Jolt, the site the fake was posted on, and bringing the theft to their attention. While I'm pretty sure everything is cleared up there, there are still traces of "Aura Tome" on the internet. "Aura Tome" is the name given to my game by the thief, in case you didn't guess. So, what I'm trying to say is, keep your eyes out for it, and maybe point out its a stolen game if you see it on any sites. I'll try to do my part, too, but man today has been stressful and I'm not exactly keen on exacting revenge right now.

Here's its..."official site": http://aura-tome.webs.com/

It's not all bad news, though!

I uploaded a minor(or maybe not)update to Vagabond today that solves the issue in the Crystal Cavern where you might not be able to progress if you use the Gate Orb in the wrong place. Also, some minor dialogue fixes. Yay!

Also, Vagabond is now on Game Jolt!

Leave a comment and rating if you happen to frequent that site, I guess!

Well, that's it for this really random blog post. Thanks a lot to the certain someone who showed me the stolen game...really, you don't know how much I appreciate that this guy is getting what should have come to him a long time ago.

Vagabond's one month anniversary update!

With RTP:

"Another update already!?" I'm sure you're asking. Well, yes. But it's a big one! It's also for Vagabond's one month anniversary after being released! It's a culmination of all the helpful feedback I've received. If you've skipped some of the previous versions, now is the time to update. It will also likely be the last update for quite a while, so don't worry about that! So what does this new version contain?

~Version 2.0 Improvements~

TP System Overhaul: I can't count the number of times people have complained about the default method of setting a random amount for TP every battle. And quite frankly, I didn't like it either. Fortunately, I found a script by Elise_Chan from the RMW forums which allows more control over TP. Now TP will be set to 10 at the start of every battle. Hopefully that will make everyone who didn't like the TP system at least a little happier.

Skill Cost Madness: Some of the MP and TP costs for skills were just a bit to high to be useful. Some skills even had costs for both without the player knowing(by accident). The costs of many skills have been lowered, and any hidden MP costs have been removed.

No Evasion: Vagabond was meant to have no evasion for attacks, meaning no misses(unless certain skills are used). I applied this for enemies, removing all of their evasion, but forgot to do the same for the player's characters. Now the player's characters' evasion is at 0, like the enemies'. Sorry for those who liked the random strokes of luck!

Map Hi-jinks: The map that was posted on this site and the one in-game wasn't exactly accurate. It was drawn before many of the zones were even completed, after all! The map has now been updated to better portray the actual geography of the areas.

~More Thanks~

I already thanked Scinaya and Indrah in my last blog post for their awesome fanart and review, respectively. There are more people that I need to thank, however.

Bigtime, for being the one tester that actually came through. Most of my testers kind of just...quit, some without even telling me. Bigtime was about the only one who actually helped me at all. So, thank you!

Karsuman, for providing crucial feedback for one of the game's earliest versions. It was his advice that really helped the game improve to what it's become now. It will also help me as I dive into my next game! Thanks Karsu, and I hope you keep playing!

NicoB, for his hilarious Let's Try videos. 'Nuff said. I just hope he continues them soon! The game has improved so much since then, haha.

The players of Vagabond, for well, playing it! Seriously, I was not expecting this game to be as popular as it is. You guys rock, whether you like the game or not!

Welp, that's about it for this update. Thanks for reading this and stuff! Have a great New Year!

Miscellaneous

New update and other things.

~New Version~

The download has been updated to the newest version of 1.2. I have been fixing many minor issues since the game's release, mostly dialogue errors(Shiro...hahaha). I have also done more tinkering with the database and...many other things. Basically, too many things to include in one single patch. So should you download this version if you already have a previous version? If you don't mind, yes. Simply tranfer your save file over from the old to the new. Easy right?

~RTP Inclusion~

I figured that many would have trouble playing Vagabond because they did not have the VX Ace RTP installed. Well worry no more!

http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4152/

This download contains the most recent version of Vagabond as well as all the RTP files that are needed to play it. It's a bit big, but the RTP itself is big, so... It's also good to have options. While the smaller, RTP-less download will continue to be the main download (also holy cow 475 downloads!), having this version up will hopefully allow more people to play.

~Many Thanks~

I would like to thank Scinaya for the awesome Secret Santa Vagabond fanart and for the feedback for the game. <3

I would also like to thank Indra for writing the first review for this game's full version. Seriously, you should read it if you're on the fence about playing. It should allow you to make up your mind. Here is the review: http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/reviews/1986/

~???~

Take this next bit as you will...

"It seems I have found myself in a land called 'Lotus'. I have traveled far away enough from my home, I suppose. Although after the banishment, it isn't really a home at all anymore. Not for me.

What I did was unforgivable, but according to my new friend and traveling companion there is a way I can redeem myself here in Lotus. Apparently I should set off for a place called 'Heaven's Gate Chapel', located in the heart of the land, in the morn.

Though I must admit. I never was a religious type. But my options are severly limited now, and there must be something I can do to appease the guilt I feel. Maybe, just maybe, I can return to my home the Adventurer's Guild one day. One could call this a 'heavenly journey' of redemption..."

Version 1.1 Patch

Hello everyone! I've just uploaded a new version of Vagabond as well as a patch that will bring everyone else's downloads up to date. It's a pretty minor update, since no game breaking bugs have been reported as of yet. Yay! :D

If you wish to download the new version in it's entirety, here is the link:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4075/

If you've already downloaded Vagabond and just need the patch, here is that link:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4116/

The instructions for installing the patch are listed in that link, so refer to them if you need help. Here are the minor updates in this patch:
- The AGI stats of some of the early enemies have been lowered, making for easier fleeing and easier battles in general.
- All of your monster partner's regular attacks' TP costs have been lowered to 5, meaning less guarding.

Basically, you could probably get away with not installing this particular patch at all. But these changes, especially the second one, are things that a lot of players have been asking for. If you want those changes, then download the patch.

As a side note, thanks to everyone who has tried this game! I didn't imagine it would get so many downloads in just three weeks!

Release Day is Here! Hoping for the best! ;w;)b

Welp!

The download for Vagabond's full version is now up and ready for your playing pleasure:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/3916/downloads/4075/

It's far from perfect, but it's both completed and playable! A rare feat, to be sure. I hope you enjoy the game! Now it's time to start planning and working on a brand now project! Yep, I want to start working on something else very soon.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this project, either by testing, reviewing the demo, or just giving me advice!

The Final Challenge ~ Exploring Elnia's Tower

"Hello. Nice weather we're having, eh?"

Elnia's Tower is the seventh and final zone of Vagabond. When you first enter the area from North Gate, it might not seem like much. Just a mostly empty field of flowers with nothing to do. However, at the northern edge of the area, and of Granti itself, lies a tower that no one can seem to enter.

"We're gonna charge through the fire! Ready, set..."

Only when the six fiends of the other areas are defeated can one enter Elnia's Tower. Inside, the final challenge awaits...

"Alright, let's DO THIS!"

However, is this the full story? Or is there something more sinister hidden in the tower? Or will the secret of Granti as well as your monster ally be revealed? Only the power of the sages can determine that.

"It's time to settle things once and for all!"

Land of the Great Tree ~ Exploring Sentia Jungle

"It seems that even the area's flora wants to kill me."

Sentia Jungle is the sixth zone of Vagabond. Here is where many Grantians gather to celebrate a festival of harvest and prosperity once a year, near the Great Sentia Tree that looms over the land. This year, however, the rains that usually accompany the festival haven't arrived, and the Great Tree's spark of life is fading. On top of that, a certain item is needed to even get inside the tree and traverse the zone effectively.

"It's a particularly beautiful bottle."

Using the Bottle, you can carry the Spirit Water found in the zone's various puddles to revive plants and make them grow, allowing you to reach new areas. However, once you pick up some spirit water it's effect will diminish in a few seconds, meaning you'll have to hurry up when watering the plants. If you run out of time, you'll have to go back to the puddle and try again. By the way, any puddle with sparkles in it is a puddle of Spirit Water.

"It's surprisingly plain being inside of a giant tree."

The areas main dungeon is, you guessed it, inside the Great Sentia Tree. The challenges of this dungeon mainly consist of watering plants within the time limits. Sometimes you also have to find Seedling items and plant them in the ground, then water them with Spirit Water.

When you're not traversing the tree or exploring the jungle, you can enter your monster friend in the Monster Arena Challenge. It's a great way to earn money, items, and even some augments if you find yourself stuck on a hard challenge.

"There's no way this is illegal, right?"

Miscellaneous

Crystal Clear Waters ~ Exploring Marala Lake

"Ahhh, such a nice view..."

Marala Lake is the fifth zone of Vagabond. It's something of a paradise for the denizens of Granti, considering there are very few monsters around and the lake is a great place to hang out. However, to traverse the lake one must have a raft of some sort. There's one guy who can hook you up, though he's a bit strange...

"Right, uh, I'll just be leaving..."

Fario here has a raft (as well as a few great augments!) up for trade, but he's not looking for just any old item. He wants Lucky Medals. These medals don't appear until you talk to Fario for the first time, but once you do you'll be able to find one in each zone except for the last. You only need one for the raft though, which you can use to reach the Crystal Cavern.

"I am NOT going to slip on the ice this time!"

This dungeon is the bulk of the Marala Lake zone, and yes, it has ice sliding puzzles. It's also home to the Furnace Orb item, which allows you heat up certain rooms, melting the ice, allowing progression with the raft or by other means.

Left: Room without Furnace Orb.
Right: Room with Furnace Orb.

Next up is Sentia Jungle!

The Land of Darkness ~ Exploring Nocturna Plains

"I can't seeee!!!"

Nocturna Plains is the fourth "zone" of Vagabond. It's major characteristic is-of course-being very dark. Unusually dark, in fact, which is causing concern for the denizens of Granti. Even more disturbing is the rumor of a curse being placed upon those who explore the area. Hmmm...

"Open Sesame! ...WHY WON'T YOU OPEN!?"

Located near West Gate is an enigmatic sealed palace. What lies inside is a mystery. Perhaps a Fiend? A Sage? Maybe both? Maybe no one will ever find out. But maybe the mystery of the palace is linked to a few conspicuous statues scattered throughout the plains?

"Welp, not much else to do now but pray."

However you get inside, beware. The curse of the plains and the horrors rumored to lurk within the palace might end up being all too real.

"Certainly there is nothing important beyond that sealed door!"
