Tech Demo Sneak Peak

I want to start off by thanking Sam and Silviera. The time you took to review EthD really means a lot to me, and I've taken what you've said and am trying to improve on EthD's weak spots.

In honor of Release Something IX, I have assembled an early preview of the future revamp tech demo. In this quick little demo, you can explore one room, and fight one battle as much as you like. This by no means a complete build--there's no menu beyond the root one--but the focus is on lead character switching and the basics of the battle system, even if I haven't played with damage algorithms or the stats I have to add yet. Please don't mind the temporary rtp for battle animations and sounds, those will most likely be replaced before the full tech demo.

The plan for the future is to have the tech demo show absolutely everything the game will have to offer in terms of systems and base gameplay. Currently I don't plan to release any other demos, since I think a remake of 2.0 with the new systems would be redundant. Also, I might blog on the specifics of the battle system if people are interested. For now, feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer.

Darin Ardgall: Drunk Attorney (April Fools)

For April Fools this year, we made an announcement that we were switching to VX as well as switching directions for the game. I thought I'd post the information in a blog here for those that were interested, as the demo we created is still fun to play, joke or not.

STORY

Tired of his current life, Darin decides to take up the badge and help others in the court of law. With Ryaena by his side and a mug of ale tight in hand, Darin takes his first steps forward to becoming the great Drunk Attorney!

Turnabout Theft
Darin and Ryaena are spending the night in the Nova Inn. When they’re ready to leave the next morning, they’re surprised to learn that a theft occurred over night. The Prosecutor Phylip is convinced that a young dark elf named Kix is the culprit. Confident that no woman as hot as Kix could be a criminal, Darin offers to protect her in court.

Characters
Darin Ardgall - Fresh from law school, Darin feels ready to try out this Attorney thing. Sadly he has a hard time giving up the ale, earning him the name Drunk Attorney. He has a terrible weakness for woman and seems to apply the strange philosophy that the better looking you are, the more innocent you have to be.
He is the main character in this game.

Ryaena Ardgall - Darin’s adopted daughter and assistant. Whenever Darin is in a pickle she’s always ready to help him out or toss a pep talk his way. She’s highly skilled in water magic.

Phylip Cybell - Going head to head with Darin in the first case, he quickly acknowledges the drunk buffoon as his rival. Phylip studied law in his home town, but was tired of the few cases to take on there. He set out into the real world, quickly making a name for himself as a Prosecutor. Darin will encounter Phylip many times throughout this game.

Sabia ‘Kix’ Killyn - A Dark Elf who was staying the night at the Inn in Nova at the same time as Darin and Ryaena. She was accused of stealing three valuable items from the Peregrine Caravan store.

Riche Peregrine - Owner of the Caravan store in Nova. He is the father of Firo Peregrine. Like Darin, he appreciates a good mug of ale more than he should.

Firo Peregrine - The son of Riche, Firo helps his father look after the store. He’s an upbeat child who tends to get carried away with things at times. He is the sole witness to the crime.

Info

Court Record
By pressing the ‘D button’ you can access your Court Record. Here you will find a list of all the evidence you’ve collected during investigation. By pressing the ‘D button‘ again, you‘ll change the view from evidence to profiles. Here all the people you have met during the case are displayed. (Please note that this demo does not yet have investigation implemented. You do however, have items and people in your Court Record.) Knowing your Court Record is key to playing this game. Check it often whenever you need to stop and think.

Press
In the Courtroom, during a witness’s testimony, you have the option of pressing them for more information with the ‘A button.’ By doing this you can reveal information about what the witness saw in greater detail and perhaps find yourself new hints to help you progress. When you aren’t sure what to do, try pressing the witness and see what happens.

Present
Presenting evidence to the court is a vital part of this game. At any time during a witness’s testimony, you can present evidence. Listen carefully to what the witness is saying, when they say something that seems off, open your Court Record. Look for any evidence or profile that might contradict what the witness has just told you. When you find something contradicting, present the evidence needed to prove it with the ‘S button.’ Finding contradictions can help open the case to new possibilities and find you your Not Guilty verdict.
