Week of Updates: Day 1

OK, so I've recently made a lot of significant changes over the past two weeks or so. Time to explain all that stuff, so I'll be doing one blog post a day this week until Friday to do just that. The first thing I'll need to talk about is the new way stat progression works.

Previously, leveling characters only raised max HP and MP. Levels were factored into most damage formulas, to make characters stronger as levels were raised. Equipment and Relics were the best way to raise stats. That proposed a problem when selecting equipment with the proper weapon and armor effects. Why would a player want to reduce their attack power by 70 points just to deal extra damage to birds, right?

So things have changed now. Levels are more traditional now, in the fact that they'll slowly raise every stat (except Speed). Leveling with certain Nethicite will still add a bonus to raising stats, and I've included items that can permanently raise stats as well, giving you three ways to manipulate how your characters grow stronger.

The maximum limit to HP has been raised to 99,999 and the max limit for MP has been raised to 9,999. As a result of characters potentially having incredibly high stats, a lot of enemies have been made stronger. It won't be as noticeable in the early game, because a lot of items and Nethicite aren't available that early, but once they are you'll see enemies start to hit a lot harder (once you reach Figaro).

STAT-RAISING ITEMS
  • Golden Apple: Raises Max HP by 100.
  • Soma Drop: Raises Max MP by 10.
  • Power Source: Raises Strength by 1.
  • Turtle Shell: Raises Defense by 1.
  • Magic Tag: Raises Mag. Power by 1.
  • Mind Source: Raises M. Defense by 1.
  • Dead Pepper: Raises Speed by 1.

Tomorrow's update will cover everything you need to know about Augments, Paradigms, and changes to Nethicite.

I feel so toyed...
Still a way to wait until Gamescon appear and SE starts Lightning Returns news flood for which I impatiently wait.
Woot stat boosters...I can say I'll be obsessively hunting those done and than hoarding them all for my favorite character with no thought for the other party members :)

@NK Wake me up when Sqeenix makes a fun game again NK for now I'll stick to fan projects.

Yes, that's true: I think that fan projects are actually more popular that we might think. And they don't need PS3 graphics to attract potentional players to them. ;P

I do actually prefer the FF4-6 style of graphics but I don't actually have any issue with the graphics of the PS3/360 era FFs...actually if there's one thing you can say Sqeenix almost never gets wrong it the eye candy. The only ones I can think of is that odd chibi-like stlye of some of the FF remakes on the DS.

That said it doesn't matter how pretty your game is if it's not fun and Sqeenix hasn't been able to pull it off in a long while (FF9 was the last game I truly loved...FFX-2 gets honorable mention for having an awesome battle/job system even if everything else was crap :P)

Also it really doesn't help that the FF trailer at the PS3 launch event makes the next Final Fantasy game look like Call of Duty (Final Duty: Call of Fantasy??)...although it does get props for showcasing the actual use of a potion.

At this point instead of C&Ding every fan game once its nearing completion Sqeenix would be better publishing these games just to earn some cred back.

They could also just remake FF7..its not my favorite FF but its a still a good one and very popular FF that unfortunately was made in a time where graphics were having some growing pains jumping from 2D to 3D so an HD remake would be great...sell it for 100$ you greedy bastards people will buy it, make it a PS4 launch title if you want...just don't change anything aside from a graphical upgrade.

Note: Sorry for going off-topic WC...my blood just boils whenever I hear mention of Sqeenix, not to mention the recent announcement of BOF6 by Capcom.
Ugh, 99,999? Really? Higher numbers does not equal a higher degree of cool.
It's likely you won't be seeing your characters hitting such high HP levels until endgame+, bonus dungeons and stuff.
