The three missions you can choose all consist of teams of two party members (Ellie and Beclem, Cid and Reeve, and Vicks and Wedge). All three must be completed, in any order the player chooses.
Will all 3 missions have varying difficulties and lengths, or will all of them be just as difficult/easy and short/long as each other?

Yes, of course they'll be different lengths and have different levels of difficulty. Cid's mission will most likely end up being the longest one.

So it's basically like that one scene in FFVI where you had to choose between Sabin, Locke, or Terra. Got it.

Precisely.
Here's some information about the three missions part of the game.

Cid and Reeve
King Edgar needs trusted allies to make contact with an informant in Sanubia. Word is, she's currently in the Gold Saucer...

Ellie and Beclem
Ellie won't leave Burmecia until she finds the Aeons she's searching for. Beclem volunteers to escort her on her search, which leads them to a city rarely visited by outsiders...

Vicks and Wedge
A royal Tycoon ship has run aground on the western coast of Mideel. Rumor has it that Princess Lyra was on that ship. Investigate this incident...

As you can probably tell, some of these missions allude to meeting other party members. Once all three missions are completed, you'll have a pretty versatile team of heroes. =)

Great idea. The 3 story branch in FF6 was one of my favorite parts of the game. I remember feeling so disappointed when Shadow decided to go his way during Sabin's path.

I hope the 3 branch converging point will be just as awesome as the Kefka/Narshe/protect Tritoch skirmish.

By the time it's over, the primary objectives for the first half of the game will pretty much be laid out to the player. You'll know who you're fighting, and why. You'll know what's required for your victory, and who can help you achieve it. Plus, you'll have a couple of brand new party members, Augments, Paradigms, and a few pieces of Nethicite to throw around, too. =)

Not sure if I'm gonna go the route of having a big showdown a la Final Fantasy VI with the Kefka battle, but I'll do something cool. The whole "choose a scenario, kupo" thing here is enouhg of a ripoff as it is (which doesn't really mean anything since everything in the game is inspired by something from the series). Whatever, I'm rambling.

Ellie and Beclem scenario sounds kinda like FFX summoners thing. Also, I like the split scenario thing: good idea!
