Stann has awoken to find an entirely different world at his feet. It is a drab, familiar world that Stann knows all too well and perhaps never wanted to wake up to. Nevertheless, he gets on with his daily business in the seemingly post-apocalyptic world he (and he alone) resides within. After realising that the previous events that took place were all just his wild imagination, his first step in the routine is to write what happened in his dream journal. Then he must stock up on food supplies by taking a wander around the city with good friend and puppet pal, Gillum.

At the end of the arduous quest for food, Stann and Gillum take a rest back at the apartment. As Stann has his back turned, a stray wolf creeps up on him. Frightened, Stann falls to the floor and returns to a narcoleptic slumber where who knows what will take place..

Stann, unaware that he is dreaming, envisions a woman leaving home out of fear of the "monsters" that will attack soon. He vows to kill them so that it will be safe for her to return some day. But in the meantime, Stann must take care of his farm animals, appease the townspeople and venture through a puzzling dungeon to try and track down his lady-friend again. Will he give up on her and live his life out with someone else? Will the monsters overrun the town and its people? You have the power to decide in this farm-puzzle-dungeon-crawl Harvest Moon spin-off game.

* Monster attacks will happen every few days and you must fend them off. Should you fail, you may lose an animal or two..
* 6+ townspeople who can be married or become 'best friends'. These may have their benefits, such as reduced shop prices or gifts. You can marry both male and female townspeople, but some may reject you for whatever reason. Up to 25 social levels for each townsmember including 'friends', 'best friends', 'love' and 'after marriage'. This includes dynamic relationship events where certain things will happen as time goes by, if you're friends with specific people, etc. One person might not like that you're so friendly with another townsmember which sparks an entirely new social event that would otherwise not happen.
* The time is constantly the same (about noon) and people won't move around until the next day. You can spend as much time as you like talking or adventuring, but when you sleep to the next day, it becomes closer to the next monster attack.. so sleep wisely!

Bad news: I have no major news..

Yeeaaahh, so I got a job in November which eats up my day, and in the little time I have at home I'm normally far too exhausted to get anything done. But I have been pootling! Pootling at what? Art style, of course! What else do I feel I should do with my time other than quibble over what everything's going to look like? Certainly not actual game development! Hah!

But seriously I am closing in on an art style. My last blog saw me fiddle with a very cartoony look and get some improvements in, but I'm not sure I could ever take those faces seriously. I've been going for a more realistic approach as of recent, and this is what I've come up with so far:

Naturally there will be anatomical issues that I can't see because I am blind towards all terrible arts, but eh. Those will be pointed out soon and fixed I should hope! The important thing is that I'm getting closer to approving of the art style I've chosen. This one is serious enough to not laugh at constantly, but not so realistic that I have to spend 6 hours on every single character portrait. I also submitted this recently if you've not already seen, which was one of the first images I made to test the art style out.

But that's not all I've been working on, because I've also been tampering with the tile graphics. I started out with a very grim and murky take not too long ago, and everything looked horrible so I decided to give it some countryside-y colours. It's not going to be quite so serious and grim looking as the storyline would bring you to expect, buuuut.. it'll be nicer to look at, I guess. Here are some updates on the tiles I've been making lately, in a sorta painterly VX style:

Ignore the weird red and white thing next to the cart. I forgot to take that out, and it's gotten to the point where I can't even remember what it was originally going to become.. It might have been flowers? XD

And lastly I have made the full transition over to VX Ace now, as I hinted that I might in the last blog. Ace is much friendlier and I just like it a whole lot more for reasons. That's about it for this blog, really. I've not been up to much thanks to work, but I will slowly chip away at this thing until it's done.

In site related news, Misao voting ends in two weeks. I advise everyone to play and vote for The Curse of Cpt. Loveless because it's great and WHAT IS BETTER THAN OCTOPI WITH GUNS?

Thanks, it's been fun so far and that's all I really wanted. :P
So hyped! Keep going hard, Caz! Any proposed release date? (Tentatively speaking)

Well I've been without the internet for a month which has set me back quite a bit, yet pushed me forward at the same time (I've been doodling non-stop to keep me sane). I'm still knee-deep in deciding on an art style to take and actually trying to get better at drawing anatomically correct people. Now that I have the 'net I can start looking for models and tutorials. I speculate that this is going to be a longass project, and probably won't be done for about a year.

On the plus side, I've also been using RPG Maker in my downtime to make a game and test out the social system! I may release the little prototype once it's done, but I'd say it's working pretty nicely!

Thanks for your interest, by the way! ^^ I'll hopefully get this project done one day!
How I love unique stuff and people doing their own art. Good job.

Did you ever think about call it "The only two left"?
It probably wouldn't fit with the story... but I like when sequels do that, haha

I'd considered it, and I also love sequels that do that! :P Unfortunately, it would only sorta fit in with the storyline.. maybe.. possibly.. who knows!
I forget, how does this connect with the first game?

First game is a dream, but it was just way too much info to throw into the game to begin with. And I didn't want to end it by just saying "and it was aaaaall a dream" because that would be lame. XD It should all tie together in this game, and it's not like he's gonna forget anything that happened before. Most of the stuff from the first one has some symbolism behind it and will likely continue to haunt him through the rest (potential spoiler?: weird appearances from characters in the first game that manifest from his loneliness/lack of lady-friend, that kinda thing.. a few of them are personalities that he's developed from people he used to know before everything went ladyparts up, and he's using them as "friends" to keep himself company, I guess. XD)

This game is another of his dreams which you play out, dropping symbolism to his need to survive and save the people around him (which he miserably failed to do before, naturally). More of his backstory will be explained throughout the dream. More than anything I suppose this is just an exploration of the subconscious of a man who lost everything he held dear, and is now haunted by dreams of his past. :P
I don't find the end of "it was just a dream" that lame xD. I think it depends on the after effects of that dream. If it's going to be just like "oh, you know? you were dead, but nothing happened after", that's lame because there's no meaning in what you did. But for example in your game, those dreams seem to develop the character.

So, in the end, I like it.
I liked Final Fantasy X and it pulled the "...was just a dream" card. (Well, a little differently, heh)

Well maybe it won't be so lame after I actually get around to doing this game.. XD But it hopefully won't be suck. Character development is super important to me in games/stories/everything, and usually takes precedent over plot.. so I'm sorry if that seems flimsy, and hope that the characters will make up for it. :P

Basically, this game is 'I Am Legend' meets 'Inception'..
This looks great. Cant wait to try. I like the whole rune factory/ harvest moon village deal with no time limit.
Not meaning to necropost(If that exists on this site) but the project looks interesting :)

I've always been a fan of these types of games so I'll be watching and anticipating this :D

There's not really such a thing as necroposting on games unless it's canceled or something, so no worries!

And thanks, I'm still trying to work on a graphical style at the minute and I've got a few things in the works, but production is still going ahead for sure. ^^
